Pleasant surprise”

A small pension which from on-line photos did not seem to be much welcoming. We trusted the Agoda reviews since in that area, for spring holidays, it was all busy or with crazy prices. What a pleasant surprise! the people who run it are lovely. The two interior onsen are very pleasing whike pools on the river are inviting and very romantic in the evening. Amply rewarded by the courtesy of the hosts.

Great place to stay for hiking and onsen”

At first, the hotel and meals seem a little expensive for two people. However, the value far exceeds the price. The location is directly across the street from a river with natural onsen hot tub on the shore. The food is excellent. The location along Kumano Kodo hiking trail is great, with plenty of interesting things to do. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful, even offering to drive us to our trailhead so that we didn't have to rush the hike to catch a returning bus. Our stay in the Kawayu Onsen area was the highlight of our awesome trip to Japan.

My stay in the family run the hotel was awesome and kind of healing experience. I really thank the owners and the staff for their kindness and help to organize hiking trips and local transport. The shared bathroom and toilet was no drawback at all. I always felt very comfortable and like staying at a home away from home. I would definitely like to come back and stay here again.

Exceptional”

Home away from home! Rustic, relaxed and very welcoming. The 2 private Onsen are great and a nice short walk to the public Onsen up the street. You may have a few small challenges if you are vegetarian however (despite arranging this option months earlier and sign on front door saying vegetarian/vegan meals can be prepared) - when they got it right the food was great. Room 206 (at the back of the property) gets a bit of generator type humming through the night so not the best room if you’re a light sleeper. In the other rooms you’ll hear all the usual comings and goings you’d expect of a place with shared facilities. These extra details are just to let you know a little more of what to expect. Would definitely stay again to enjoy it’s charms.

The hot spring inside and out side were all worth trying.The hotel is just next to the bus stop,you can go hongu\hingu or other palce just follow the time table,and this is a good stop when you are hiking along the kumano kodo.

Very cozy room”

the location is right beside kawayu hot spring. If you plan to visit there, this accommodation will be a good choice. The room is very cozy, i love the wooden design a lot. The dinner (not much other options out there though) and breakfast is also satisfying which i didn't expect that much.

Great location and service”

Great place to base yourself to walk the Kumano Kodo Hongu loop. The private Onsen is terrific and the staff are fabulous (they really go out of their way to provide excellent service). A bit expensive given the shared toilet but still worth it for the experience.

Rustic place along a river onsen. Very friendly staff and serene getaway. Just wished I had planned a longer stay there.

Helpful staff and beautiful location”

I had a great stay at this family run hotel. All the family members were very helpful and kind. They helped me to plan my journey. The location was lovely and set near the onsen with a forest view.

The owner gave good information and the food is good. They packed breakfast if you leave early.

Huge room, with private bath for families”

Pretty nice place to relax, but nothing much to do around here. Dinner served at this hotel was pricey due to its remote location and lack of competition in the area. I highly recommend eating at the yakitori store about 5 minutes drive away.

Unforgetabel Stay in Ashita No Mori”

The owner contacted me via email on the day after my booking, and gave super detailed instructions of my coming stay. The room was clean and tidy, facing to the river. Though the washing room and toilet were shared with other guest in hallway, the facilities were very clean and separated into female and male. They have two private onsen in the hotel, and the guest could enjoy a totally private onsen time! The Japanese Style dinner was very impressive! (There are western style dinne to choose as well) They offered a home-made Japanese cuisine. As a foreign traveler, this was a great experience of Japanese culture. The breakfast time was settled for each room, and the food was so good! The stay in Ashitanomori was super enjoyable and relaxing, especially after a whole day hiking in Kumano Kudo. I will be back to visit here again during the winter to try the open onsen in the rive for sure!

Personnel familial vraiment vraiment adorable, service vraiment très gentil. Onsen naturel dehors ou onsen privé dedans. Repas très bon. On a eu la chance de tomber un jour de concert lyrique japonais, curieux et pas trop tard, belle rencontre. Arrêt de bus à 30 m de la pension.

Von hier aus bin ich die Pilgerroute Hosshinmon-oji bis zum Kumano-Hongu-Taisha angetreten. Der Gastwirt stand mit Rat und Tat zur Seite und wusste so manche Annekdote zu erzählen. Das Essen war wunderbar und auch sonst gab es in keinster Weise etwas zu bemängeln. Ich hatte zwei sehr schöne Tage dort am Kumano-Kodo.

8000円ぐらい素泊まりしたが、5000円ぐらいならお勧めですね。夕食は別料金で頼みましたが、地元料理はなく残念。

老闆好客!住房環境佳，茶好喝!”

老闆很親切，噓寒問暖，跟老闆要一壺熱水煮泡麵，都很願意提供。入住的房型是2人房2張單人床，房間內提供的茶好好喝，很清香很入喉味道很甜。公用的廁所浴室很乾淨還有準備拖鞋，擦手巾是布製的，我覺得很環保。浴場雖小，設備也很齊全，要使用時門口有個牌子要翻成使用中，很特別的體驗，浴室很乾淨，一點也沒有汙垢。早餐真的很讚，有優格生菜沙拉、荷包蛋還有火腿及水果，水果有雕花，刀工很有水準。小小的民宿有飯店等級的廚師，真的不簡單。
