"I have stayed in other hotels in Shanghai previously but this hotel I would say is the best so far in terms of location, cleanliness, helpful staff, good food served at the restaurant and also strong WiFi signal in room. This hotel so near to the Bund just 8-10 minutes walk and many shopping outlets also within walking distance with the famous Nanjing Street just a stone throw away. I will definitely stay at this hotel from now onwards. For anyone still searching for a hotel in Shanghai, I recommend this hotel without reservation. "

"a true business hotel. the work area is wide spread. it is conveniently located near the subway (5-10 mins walk) and carrefour is located in the next building. front desk is effectively bilingual so communication is a breeze. will certainly stay there again... however, most hotels in shanghai provide complimentary wifi. this hotel does not, and the connection is extremely slow."

"The hotel is located somewhere nearby 昌平路Metro Station(7号线), just 5 mins walking distance, very convenience. The staffs were really being helpful. We reached there around 09:45 am and the front counter was opened at 10:30 am. Even though the official check-in time should be 12:00 pm, but the staff let us check-in earlier without extra charge as there's an empty room at level 3. She even helped us to carry our luggages up to our room. The con here was no built-in elevator in this hotel, so if you were carrying a huge luggage, pray hard for you. But if your luggage is not really big, this issue won't bother you much. Toiletries and hairdryer were well prepared, cleanliness was good. The bed was so nice to sleep on, good quality. The staff was kind enough to help us called an airport taxi on the day we check-out, saved us alot of trouble and time. If we were coming back to Shanghai, definitely this would be our first choice. Recommended! "

"It was a tough decision for my friend and I to choose hotel in Shanghai knowing the standard and rate in China can be quite different from other countries. We glad that we chose Grand Central despite some reviews said it has slow wifi. We had no problem with it and in fact even VPN works well for me. We love the fact that it is near Nanjing east station and it is very convenient (Family Mart is just behind the hotel, shopping district is just less than 5 minutes). It only cost us about RMB170 from Pudong airport to the hotel but it costs more from hotel to airport (RMB220).The only thing is we book the promo rate which is without breakfast, so can comment much on the food. Overall it was a pleasant stay. We will definitely go back if we are going to Shanghai again."

"This was our second stay at the Jia, Shanghai, and it's definitely our choice of hotel when we travel to Shanghai. We could only stay 2 nights and would loved to have stayed longer as it's such a beautiful place to chill, do business, shop and eat! This was our first experience at the restaurant and it was magic - we arrived late and they were still serving food - they had a great selection of food (light dishes as well as mains) and good wine and beer selection - the breakfasts were also fantastic - the best English muffin and poached eggs - ever!"

"We were staying in Shanghai for 2 nights and booked this service apartment after getting a good rate online. And it was one of the best hotels I've stayed in. Though a service apartment, it is no less than a 4 star hotel. Clean room, with washing machine, microwave, hot plate and a rice cooker. English speaking staff, great breakfast and great location. Just a 1-2 minutes walk away from MTR subway station. There is a shopping center right next to the hotel with KFC, Starbucks, a bakery, a noodle bar and local fruit shops around, this location is really really nice. I had my 3.5 year old kid with me and staying in this hotel was so comfortable. We cooked food, washed laundry and it was a home away from home. Metro ride to Nanjing street just costs 3 RMB per person vs 20 in the taxi. I am definitely staying here whenever I'm back in Shanghai!"

"After reading about 25 reviews of hotels all over Shanghai, I decided to book a night in the Purple Mountain. Of course the hotel is a few kilometres away from the centre, but that should be clear from one look on the map. It is very close to public transport, and that is one of the main advantages: take the Maglev, change trains and a few minutes later you leave Century Avenue station and are two hundred metres away from the hotel - great! The Chinese dinner from the menue I had was very good, and the room was very nice: perfectly clean, warm, fairly large. But the two major features were the friendlyness of the staff and the absolutely stunning city views: 38th floor, looking north towards the skyscrapers of the financial district. Wow! So if you want to stay in Shanghai in a very nice hotel with helpful, friendly staff, good food and a convenient location, I dearly recommend the Purple Mountain Hotel."

"we had a great stay at the urbn hotel in shanghai. the service was very friendly and efficient. loved the way it was all put together using recycled materials. quite clever and original. tastefully done too! it was very pleasant waking up to birds singing outside in the courtyard. the high ceilings painted in a rusty red was very unique and effective in making the room very charming. the floor to ceiling windows let in lots of sunlight. loved the large sitting area that made a perfect daybed for our 8 year old son to sleep on at night. rooms were spacious and and well planned. however, it was impossible to use the bathroom without bothering my husband as there was no way to turn on the lights in the bathroom without affecting him in bed. i also had food poisoning from the last day at breakfast. it was probably just a one off thing though. did not have any problems the day before. the bed was also quite hard. this is personal i guess. overall, it had a cool vibe and i would still highly recommend this hotel.
