A good, well-priced hotel.
Cost, good food, friendly staff.
We stayed at the Best Western Mangga Dua for three nights, after choosing it principally for its location, as we wanted to visit Kota Tua, the old town centre and Jalan Surabaya, the antiques market, both of which were reasonably easy to access by taxi. We also visited the large nearby shopping complex Mangga Dua Square, to which the hotel provides free, on-demand shuttle access. The hotel accommodation itself was good, if somewhat dated. Our room was clean and adequately appointed. The main problem, even for our 29th floor room, was street and mosque noise, which however is hard to avoid anywhere in Jakarta. The buffet breakfast was good, with an extensive choice of both local and western-style dishes. The lunch/dinner menu was also good and fairly reasonably priced. The immediate hotel location is rather uninspiring, though after some exploration we did find a few local restaurants within walking distance and Mangga Dua Square also has some fast food outlets. Whilst the hotel promises money changing facilities, these were not,in effect, available and the nearest place was a brisk ten minute walk away in the electronics mall, or at Mangga Dua Square. The staff were friendly and helpful and, whilst lift access was a little slow at times, we did not really find this a problem. Overall we would be happy to stay here again in the unlikely event that we would ever decide to re-visit Jakarta.
