Only a 3-minute walk from JR Aso Train Station, Aso Base Backpackers offers affordable accommodation with free Wi-Fi. Guests can rent bicycles to tour the area and use the free parking on-site. Aso Shrine is a 10-minute drive away. Guests can stay in dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds or in private rooms. Bathrooms and toilets are shared. A coin-launderette is on-site and an internet PC can be used. A free-use kitchen is available for guests to cook their own meals and travel stories can be shared with each other at the common living room. Luggage storage is provided. Backpackers Aso Base is a 20-minute drive from Daikanbo and a 3-minute drive from Cuddly Dominion. Kumamoto Airport is a 50-minute drive away. The craters of Mount Aso are a 30-minute drive away and guests can enjoy hiking on its trails. No meals are served.

The most clean and tidy backpacker that I ever stay.”
Aso Base backpacker has a very good location, only 3 minutes walk from Aso station. It also the best backpacker hostel that I ever stay. The room, the bathroom and toilet is sparking clean! They even provided hair gel, facial wash, face lotion and more that I never saw these provided in other's hostel. It is great for couple or solo traveler because you can have a good rest in this hostel after a long day trip. The owner is friendly and nice, and their dog is cute :D Definitely will stay in this backpacker when I back to Aso.

Very convenience location, 1 minute from Aso JR train station /bus stop and LAWSON convenience store. So I can get always something to eat without worrying. This place is super cozy, clean, cute and homely. They provide public kitchen, free tea, luggage store, washing machine and nice balcony with Aso mountain view while relaxing on the couch. Bed was comforatble and the owner was always courteous. I will definitely stay again at ASO BASE if I am traveling there.

Close to Aso Station and Konbini. Lots of ammenities provided, free tea and coffee, food available to purchase. The staff is very friendly. This guesthouse very much feels like hostels in Europe, so if you are looking for Japanese experience you might prefer a different place. Apart from that it's a nice hostel to stay for your trip to Mount Aso. The only inconvenience is that the water at the sinks automatically shuts off every couple of seconds and doesn't get hot. So it's difficult to shave.

This guesthouse has to be one of my favourites. Almost everything(location, facilities and cleanliness) was impeccable and we liked it very much. The owner paid close attention even to the tiniest details, ensuring that our stay will be a pleasant one. It’s located very close to the station (about 3 min walk) so it’s a convenient gateway to the Mt. Aso area. I would highly recommend anyone to stay in this hostel if you’re visiting Aso.

It's located very near to Aso Station. It's a good choice for a night sleep here to explore Aso. Kitchen is very well equipped and the room is clean. However there's a wooden smell when you enter the room and you can't set the temperature of the air cond. Overall a pleasant stay

One of the nicest guest house ”
I really have nothing bad to say about this place. The dorms have a small amount of beds which is nice. Common room is warm and cosy. Lots of books to read from, washing and drying machine (useful after long hikes) and it's also super close to the station. The host is super friendly and speaks good English. Shower are clean and decent, bathrooms are clean as well. There is just a nice energy about this place. I was not lucky with the weather but it felt good to rest in this clean and quiet little guesthouse.

Everything was perfect at this place. People were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The place was clean, the room was well prepared, the facilities as well. The kitchen was perfectly equipped and the dining and living room area was quite cosy, decorated with many beautiful accessories. The atmosphere was great, it was a quiet place, but very social at the same time. I loved it!!!

Things we love about it: 1. Great location 2. Best lobby, kitchen, public area. 3. We paid slightly extra for a room with a view, oh wow we love it! 4. 4 bathrooms and 4 shower rooms is never crowded! Things we were a bit worried was the wall is super thin. We could hear our neighbours VERY CLEAR. But lucky everyone went quiet about before 10. So we had a wonderful sleep.

Interior design of common area is nice and spacious. The kitchen have lots of things to make your stay comfortable. Coffee machine and miso soup available. There are nice sofa, chairs and tables for you to do things, hang around and talk to ppl. Nice balcony area too. The bed is soft and comfy. Toilets are well maintained. Having laundry machine and dryer is a nice plus point. Take note of reception opening hours (8-11am, 4-8pm). Ask reception for onsen discount nearby.

This place is amazing. It's probably one of the most cleanest and nicest hostels I've ever stayed in. Staff is friendly and it's right next to the station. They provide free coffee as well as an assortment of teas. Washing machine is available and free detergent. Also an area to hang your clothes out to dry. They had around 4 shower and toilet stalls. Place is huge. The lounge area is especially nice. Met great people there and overall enjoyed my stay.

Probably the loveliest hostel I have seen. The common area is so warm with good atmosphere, I made some new friends there. Facilities are very clean and well designed. It locates just near the bus station which is very convenient to get from Kumamoto and to the volcano.
