Great location, nice staff but a bit of fees”
I spent six nights at the Aung Mingalar hotel in December 2013 and for the most part enjoyed myself. The location is very near the bus stop and two streets away from restaurant row in Nyaung-U. There are closer options to the temples, but for the most part it's a very nice split between food and site locations. Staff were friendly and pleasant to me my entire stay, and room cleaning was always swift. My only complaint would be I felt a bit nickel and dimed on bike rentals and wifi access. The hotel charges more than nearby rentals and properties, opposite of how it really should be. You should be paying a cheaper rate on these as a nice bonus to the rate you're already paying on accommodation. Being charged extra for wifi really shouldn't happen at all either. When you're paying twice as much as budget backpacker rooms down the street that have free wifi, it should just be included as a courtesy as well. This always left me feeling slightly cheated, though the rest of my stay was very pleasant.

Great staff, location and rooms”
aung mingalar have ticked most of the boxes with this hotel - and i think they offer good value for all the facilities they provide (we did stay in one of the more expensive doubles). the rooms are fitted to a high standard and the staff are very pleasant. the only downside that i can think of is that there is a monk who chants (on a microphone) throughout the night at one of the pagodas situated near the hotel. i didn't find this too much of a problem but my girlfriend struggled to sleep with all the noise. my biggest tip for bagan would be to rent a bicycle as soon as you can. get out of tourist strip and go temple hunting in old bagan (turn left out of aung mingular). bicycles are the best way as you can go offroad and at your own pace. we found it easy and safe although do try and start riding back before it gets dark - unless you've got strong torches!

Great location, great staff”
Bagan is an amazing spot within the Myanmar journey, and the Aung Mingalar Inn is a great place to stay while there. My two friends and I stayed in the villa suite-- a huge room that was comfortable, even if fairly basic. The staff speak amazing English and were incredibly helpful in assisting with flight tickets for our next stop, laundry service, arranging a horse-cart ride through the temples, etc. Breakfast was not great, but the location was fantastic for walking to Nyaung U's 'restaurant row' easily for many food choices. A great spot!

The best thing is location.”
We arrived Bagan from Mandalay by overnight bus. The bus arrived earlier than we expected about 4:30am. The Aung Mingalar Hotel is very close to bus station but we got horse cart to hotel because it was very dark. We couldn't check in because it was too early and the hotel were fully booked. But the night staff was so generous to let us waiting in hotel reception until our rooms were ready. Location is the best thing for this hotel, close to bus station, restaurants, and Shwezigon Pagoda.

Good mid-range option”
Nice option if you want a step up from budget guest houses. The rooms are lovely and clean. The bathrooms are decent. The staff is helpful, but the front desk is very busy and bustling...so you may need to be patient and wait for assistance. We got come conflicting information from different staff members about laundry and buses, but then...that's Burma! Got to go with the flow. I would recommend Aung Mingalar to anyone looking to treat themselves between stays at less posh budget inns.

Lovely room ”
My son and i arrived at the hotel at about 10.30am. It wasnt much to look at from the outside but the staff was really helpful and friendly. Aftr a quick shower, we and karin, a german lady we met on the train wanted to go out for lunch. It was nice as Aung mingalar is next to lots of restaurants and if you want to see a stupa, temples n pagodas, all of these can be found just opposite to aung mingalar and thus you don't have to walk far. There will be a horse cart driver who will be begging to take you for tours . We paid ours for 15,000 kyats for 3 persons. Breakfast was basic. Cups are minute in size but if ypu don't mond a basic breakfast then you'll find this a great place to be.

Good value for money hotel”
This is an old hotel that is being renovated. First impression is not great as the old reception (that is no longer) used is still standing and looks very dated. New reception is at side of hotel. Our room was newly renovated with newly tiled bathroom, newly decorated bedroom and new a/c unit. Hotel is great value for Bagan. It's directly across from main Pagoda in Bagan (Nyaung U). Monks chant continuously which is quite atmospheric although it could get annoying for some people. Less atmospheric is road and market noise. However, hotel is close to bus station and good selection of hotels of hotels in Nyaung U (Bagan).

Very convenient and satisfied”
Aung Mingalar which is in Nyang U is just across a major temple attraction. A short walk will lead you to a cluster of restaurants, shops and other budget hotels. The Bus station is just across the hotel also. No need to take a transport to get there. Just walk to the station. Of course we did'nt know that when we arrived by Bus in Bagan (Nyaung U). A horsecart driver took us the the hotel for a thousand kyat each (1000kyat x 2 of us). Roughly 2.5US Dollars. We were pleasantly surprised that it was just a couple of hundred meters from the Bus Station were we got off. Otherwise we could have just walked. But being tired from the 8hr trip from Yangon, it was OK. The hotel staff were very friendly and nice.

Best location in Bagan”
I was planning to book a room for one night only and another room for another night in a hotel in New Bagan bit finally decided to book two nights at Aung Mingalar Hotel which turned out to be an excellent decision. The location of Aung Mingalar Hotel is the best since the Shezigon Pagoda is just nearby and there is a local restaurant serving delicious food at reasonable prices. The set breakfast served at the hotel's restaurant is modest. Internet is not free of charge but is still reasonably priced and good value for money because it is fast and stable. The balcony rooms are better than the superior rooms. I had a pleasant stay at Aung Mingalar Hotel and will definitely come back on my next trip to Bagan.

the beautiful and kind Bagan”
we took an overnight night from Yangon to Bagan, arrived at 6am. Horse cart driver approached us once we got off the bus. We knew the hotel is somewhere close to the bus station, but due to our exhaustion, we took a horse cart (1000kyat/person). the hotel is in fact SOOO CLOSE to the bus station (3-min walk at most), thats fine though. we checked in immediately, the room was ready. we could take a rest before we started our day. bed room is clean, with air-con (not particular cool but acceptable) the shower is comfortable, hot water supply is stable 2 bottles of water are provided free of charge wifi is only available at the hotel restaurant and the lobby, not free but reasonable price a girl in the lobby counter was very nice. she told us that the restaurant right next to the hotel provides wifi for FREE. thats perfect. food there is of good quality n fair price. waiters there are so friendly. the hotel is close to the most famous pagoda, can just cross the road n play the visit. do not expect too much from the breakfast included, it is just enough to feed you

Good location”
Clean but basic facilities. Wifi does not work in rooms, only in the reception area. Good location to "restaurant road" and getting around to see new and old bagan with e-bikes. Laundry service is great. I found e-bike rental was cheaper on "restaurant road" than through Aung Mingalar Hotel directly. The staff were really lovely and friendly.

Not totally worth the money spent”
Comparing to other hotels in the surrounding area, Aung Mingalar has excellent location: close to bus station in Nyaung Oo, close to restaurant street, right in front of Shwedagon Paya. The hotel looks nice, and the staffs are really friendly (they helped me call for my next bookings with lots of patience, as no one picked up!). However, the price is rather high, and not equivalent to the room. I paid for an undone room. It was clean, but it was undone. Right next to my room in another one under construction, and the workers decided to start working and hammering at 11pm to avoid the heat of Bagan.

Great Location”
had a great stay at the aung mingalar, i don't know what anyone has to complain about, the country has been closed for the last 50 years, of course their standards are not up to the rest of the world! if you want to compare then all the accommodation is over priced in myanmar especially during the high season and to next door thailand. go there, be happy and engage with the people. if sometimes they a bit grumpy most of the staff there haven't had a day off in the last 18 months.

Nice bungalows surrounded by trees”
We had a lovely stay at the Aung Mingalar hotel, in a spacious room with our two kids, surrounded by nice trees and squirrels. Breakfast was nice and relax. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to rent bicycles from there (also electric bikes available), in this very convenient location near restaurants. Recommend to anyone to stay there.

Good rooms, good location, a bit noisy though”
Rooms were beautifully designed and very clean with nice bathrooms - big bonus for that. Also the location is really good: right outside Shwezigon Pagoda on the road from Nyaung U to Old Bagan, so that it's super close to the pagoda field, a street with nice restaurants and the bus station. However since the hotel is right on the main road, it's quite loud, in addition to that hotel staff drive around the rooms with their scooters and talk to each other on the premises at all times of the day. Their English is very basic so that it's hard to have any special wishes fulfilled - they even messed up ordering me a taxi to the airport for the next morning. Also forget about their internet and the rental bikes. Anyway, if you don't mind the noisy environment, the really nice rooms make up for many of the downsides, so it's not a bad place after all.

Basic no frills accommodation, not for the picky”
This is more of a budget range accommodation, not suitable if you are looking for a 3-4 star resort. The rooms are in an old single storey lodge. Looks very much older than in the photos. Condition is far from tip-top but reasonably clean. Toilet is spacious but old, with working hot shower. Breakfast is simple but buffet style with some local dishes. Food gets cold pretty fast during the winter season. Laundry rates are reasonable. Wifi and internet chargeable and only available in reception. Hotel is located near shops and restaurants along the main road. There is also a market across the road and food stalls that operate at night. Gets a little noisy at night with music from the market and at early 4am from the temple. Probably the only night life in Nyaung U. There are certainly much better accommodation in Nyaung U/Bagan but mostly at least 2-3 times the price. At this price, not too much to complain as long as you are not too picky.

Value for money and good location. ”
I stayed at Aung Mingalar hotel for three nights - booked for two and extended for another night. I arrived Bagan at 5am in the morning and the hotel receptionist kindly allowed me to check in at 6am - that was sweet. The location is certainly superb - some 10 mins walking distance away from the restaurant streets which I am okay with it. Just few minutes away from the big Swezigon pagoda - and most importantly everyone seems to know this hotel so in case if you are hiring a horse cart or taxi that would be easy. Other thing I would complain about is the lack of internet in the room - only at the lobby. Electricity and water runs out quite often. Restaurant is not great at all. Breakfast is simple.

Lovely relaxing hotel close to old Bagan”
The hotel was much better than i expected it to be. I was allowed to check in early and the room was lovely. It is very close to old Bagan sites and opposite the huge Pagoda. I would highly recommend the hotel for its good value if you manage to get a deal. You can hire a bike from them but two streets to the right there are loads of places to eat and drink as well as numerous bike shops which are much cheaper. Do not get conned at the bus station into a taxi - the hotel is literally a 2 min walk to the right on the left.

Good Location ”
We stayed 2 nights at Aung Mingalar which is just a few steps from Shwesigon temple. It is in a good location and there a bicycle for rent. Staff are attentive and speak good english and can help with where to go for sightseeing since there are many many pagodas. However they are charge for a map (the kind of map the we get it for free) so just bring your own map. Overall stay at Aung Mingalar was very good.

Good hotel in a convenient location”
Aung Mingalar provides fairly basic accommodations in a convenient location in Nyaung U. The rooms are of a good size and kept relatively clean. The staff is nice and helpful. However the one huge downside is that they they charge extra for wifi access that is limited to the lobby only. I did not find their rates for wifi reasonable given the access that is provided.
