Yes I would do it again”
This was my second time staying at the Avalon Residence, my wife and I go each year to Lao to renew my Thai VISA. The Avalon is a short ride by Tuk or you can walk if you are young and fit from the Embassy. The food served at the cafe' or the restaurant next door is not to bad. Last year my wife and I got a standard room with a large private balcony, which I preferred over my choice this year. This year we stayed in a large suite which was nice, TV, sofa, chairs, kitchenette, all those things if you were going to stay for several days with children. Yes I Would recommend the Avalon.
Convenient for bus station”
I actually stayed in Avalon Resudence2 which is a new property and only open for 2 weeks. Everything is new. There is a small Swimming pool and children’s play area adjacent to off road parking. I arrived late (22:00) and was able to check in (paying cash but I did not have enough KIp but they would accept Thai baht. I went out to find a local restaurant/bar but on return all gats to the hotel entrance were locked. I had to knock on the window for the night porter to let me in. There was a good choice of 6 breakfast types which was then freshly made. The hotel was a 200m walk to bus station. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Pros. Great hotel not too far from the Thai Visa Embassy. You could walk it in 20 minutes but depending how hot it is! 5 minutes walk from the bus station. We booked the suit which was huge. Beautiful and clean. A few restaurants and bars nearby. Cons. Had a leak coming from kitchen sink in the room and safe wouldn't work properly. Gave up in the end. Breakfast was average but a young lad had an attitude problem. He didn't want to do anything apart from play on his phone and eat. When I asked for another cup of tea he didn't rinse the cup or even throw away what was left. So I got a dirty looking cup of water with a teabag. He didn't like it when I asked him for a new cup of hot water for my teabag! The other staff in there were lovely.
As mentioned by most travellers a stones throw from the consulate! 2 things that let down this hotel and not being a fussy person. 1. The bed is hard as a rock and 2. no coffee making facilities! The tv was fuzzy but the internet was perfect! Food next door, considering its a small place was great and cheap! Staff very friendly.
great hotel ”
Really comfortable, really clean, hot water (extremely hot) flat screen TV. manager very helpful, very polite. Did help a lot and answered all questions. Real American breakfast of many choices + lunch and dinner foreigners and local food. Wi-Fi works really good. (the person before who made a comment about it that it didn't work. They had a problem with the router, it was changed last week right after his visit. Air conditioning is almost new if you are in the new hotel. (so it doesn't make noise) The older hotel as some French colony /indian style.(they have 2 building) Cross the street from the buses station. 2 minutes walk. I was on the fifth floor so I got a huge terrace with the city view. Aura residence is also the same building. Far from Royal Thai embassy. 30 minutes walk in this heat. Beware of tuk tuk...seriously! While you're here, if you need a message, when you exit the hotel, on your right walk all the way to the traffic lights. Cross the street 10 meters on your right she is the best message hands down from all over Asia. 50,000kip 1 hr... I took 2 hrs. If you need to do laundry, I had difficulty to find a place. At the same traffic lights walking from the hotel turn right and walk all the way down pass the temple. On you right, you should see a wood panel fence.. I didn't see any sign but just say Sawadee and she will come to you. Clothing smell really good and she press. 2000kip per pieces. Been here 2 days and so far I didn't see anything to do. I walked around lot, even in the heat but didn't see anything much interesting. For sure I'll come back to stay in this hotel for visa purpose.. Hope all this help you.
Great location and nice hotel with a few caveats... ”
The hotel itself is nice and clean looks like it been recently renovated. The staff is excellent and the rooms are spacious. On the other hand the beds are hard and the blankets are thin and rather small. As a note all the plugs are 2 slot only so bring a converter if you want to charge a laptop.
Room very dirty and old”
Was given a room in the building next door to the main building. The building was very old and run down. Wifi was not good from this room, it worked but very slow i think due to the router being too far away. Floor tiles in the room were very dirty and old everything in the room very dated and worn. Bed very uncomfortable and could feel all the lumps of the springs in the mattress when lying in it. Shower plug needs unblocking as the water builds up in the tray. Sheets and towels clean as far as i can see but room and furniture very neglected and dirty. Lamp and bug zapper in the room doesnt work. Definitely one of the most run down hotels i have stayed in.
Nice Place - Wrong Room”
I've stayed at Avalon 3 times, and like the rooms in the main building because the have a balcony. On a previous trip they gave me a room in the annex, and to be hones they are a little gloomy, no balcony, just a shuttered window. Anyway this time I booked a room with a balcony, and requested a smoking room. But once again they gave me a room in the annex. So overall disappointed despite the friendly staff and general cleanliness.
Convenient for visa run”
The Avalon is very close to the bus station and about 15 minutes walk to the Thai consulate, there is a small restaurant where they serve tasty food at a reasonable price and the breakfast if it is included in your room price, there are also a few restaurants and s market nesrby. The staff are friendly and most speak English. I only gave the facilities 3 stars because there is no pool and gym which reflects the price, I will stay at this hotel during any further trips to the Thai consulate.
Receptionist really helpful and friendly. The hotel good value for money
Great hotel..truely recommend!”
Definatelly, will stay here again. THANKS
A fine place to stay in Savannakhet ”
We stayed one night and it was comfortable, clean and convenient. The staff were sweet and didn’t speak a great deal of English, but no matter. The breakfast was also pretty awesome. Good value for the money.
perfect in every way”
stayed here for 1 night with my family while doing my visa. i too was referred here. everything about the place is perfect. big clean room, awesome staff, very close to the consulate, very close to other places to eat and has wifi and hot water and aircon. aircon could be stronger but I'm not complaining at all because of how cheap the room per night is.
Really great deal, hotel is clean, friendly and in fairly good location. I stayed in annex which is an old building with a bit character Small downside is that wifi is hard to catch inside room, but otherwise hotel is great
Proximity to Thai Consulate General”
Avalon residence is perfectly situated within easy walking distance to the Royal Thai Consulate General in Savannakhet. I requested a large bed (firm but comfortable) and a high floor (I got a room on the 5th-top floor), both of which were accommodated. Check in is listed as 2pm but our room was ready by 12pm which was great as we arrived early. The elevator is a bonus and the staff are very friendly & go out of their way to try & make your stay as enjoyable as possible 10/10 for customer service from the staff with a special mention for Laa who is very laid back & has an excellent command of English. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room, however, we were able to use the urn in the lobby area to make a hot cuppa in the morning & coffee mugs were provided. Air-con chillingly cold if you suffer from the heat (I eventually settled on a setting of 24 & used it in conjunction with the pedestal fan in the room). The water pressure was fantastic & hot water was plentiful. Shampoo & soap provided. The room had a large balcony, great for a drink in the evening & convenient for smokers. Cleanliness was 10/10 throughout the hotel & is a short walk to a market which has a variety of Thai/Laos/Isaan dishes & a few foreign options. The only drawback was that the flat screen TV reception was very poor, but, my wife & I weren't there to watch TV so had no impact on us. WiFi Internet access was good in the room (it appears as though each floor has its own dedicated router) & streaming was intermittent which I think was more due to climatic conditions (Thunderstorms & rain several times a day). If you're wanting to visit the old city where you'll find more bars & restaurants catering to western tastes, it's approx. 2km away & a short trip by tuk tuk. I highly recommend this hotel if visiting the Thai consulate & will definitely return on my next visit to renew my visa for Thailand.
Actually Laos is the great country for visa run especially Savannakhet City it's lesser hassle than Vientiane. So if anyone would love to do their visa run in this simple city (Savannakhet) I recommend you to pick this hotel "Avalon Residence" just close to the Thai Consulate, you can either walk if you are that sporty but if just arrived from the trip which is really exhausted. You can just take tuk-tuk outside the consulate, doesn't cost you that much but still be aware of scam and over pricing. The hotel's staffs are very helpful and could understand English as they speak as well.
Modern and very suitable for work”
If you have to drag your work with you to SVK this place is very conducive - strong wifi, proper table and chair, functioning air-con, not too noisy, decent food and coffee right next door. Bed is comfy. Bathroom is clean and well organised. Overall good ventilation. Staff speak enough English for the business. They also let me borrow a kettle to use in my room. Plenty space for parking.
Another visa run - Staying at this hotel was a pleasure as always”
A 2 minute walk from the bus station and located about 1 km from the Thai Consulate this hotel is perfect for a visa run. Clean hotel with very polite and helpful staff, they have a cafe with food and coffee next door. The hotel and the cafe both have good WIFI. Stayed at this hotel 3 times now I cannot fault it
Perfect for a visa run”
This was my second time at Avalon. If you're in Savannakhet for a visa run, this is a very good place to stay. It's clean & the staff is very friendly and helpful. There's a coffee shop some 30 meters away where you can have your breakfast & the other occasional snack. A ride to the Thai embassy takes only 5 minutes with a TukTuk.
Conveniently Located ”
If you arrive by bus, just come out of the bus station and you will see Malay Gold Shop. Keep that at your right side and the hotel is only about 80 metres. Very convenient for the Thai Consulate - less than a kilometre. DO stop halfway there and buy a filled baguette (6000 kip) from the lady who has a street stall. Mmmm! Hotel TV had only 6 channels and 3 of those were not watchable.
