Fantastic hotel ”
Great location with stunning views. Staff were very helpful. There was one problem our booking with Agoda and somehow got miscommicated to Avon Gorge but the hotel were quick to rectify the problem and their handling of the situation was very professional and didn’t impact on our stay. We also had Sunday lunch at the Avon Gorge and it was the best Sunday lunch I have had when eating out in a large group. Would definitely recommend and have done to many friends and family.

There are three reasonable size 19th century hotels in Bristol for me the Avon Gorge Hotel has the biggest appeal still, not as plush as the Marriott, the AG has no swimming pool or gymnasium, but what it does have a fantastic view of the Avon Gorge (hence the name), the Suspension Bridge. Clifton the district where the hotel is situated has some very good restaurants and some interesting shopping . Ten minuets walk over the bridge is Ashton Court a reasonably large park. The rooms decor is very tired, but still in keeping with it's heritage. Not being a lover of the ultra modern sterile hotel chains accommodation this is by far a better alternative.

Stylish hotel with amazing views!”
Although I was staying here on a business trip, this hotel was a wonderful choice for unwinding before the next day. It overlooks the Clifton gorge and has a amazing views (especially if your room as a generous-sized balcony, as mine did!) The rooms were of an excellent size and very tastefully furnished, and restaurant's food was very good. I would happily return here - hopefully next time purely for leisure!

Weekend stay with friends”
We have stayed many times before and have always enjoyed our stay. We have only had breakfast at the hotel as there are so many wonderful restaurants nearby, but the buffet breakfast is very good. The hotel is 'honest' it does not pretend to be something it is not and suitably caters for all our needs for a weekend in Clifton. Be careful at Christmas if you wish to go to bed before midnight. There are always lively functions within the hotel and the music is played until midnight, so just ask for a suitable room not above the bar if you do wish to retire early, but then again, in Clifton who would?

Fantastic Hotel”
From our first sight of the hotel it had the wow factor, the appearance and location were spectaculor. All staff were extremely polite and courteous. It looked like our room had been recently refurbished and the bathroom was extremely clean. Our room had a wonderful view of the gorge, both the bedroom and toilet. We were lucky to have wonderfully warm weather and were able to eat our evening meal on the terrace and waited on by professional and friendly staff. Would love to make a return visit.

Weekend stay November”
When we arrived at 11.30 am after long journey our rooms weren't ready (fair enough) so we went to cafe but were not made welcome. When I asked for menu told they didn't have one! But what was it we wanted. Only wanted a coffee and cake/ biscuit but didn't know what choices were. We're then served by a different staff member and had tea and cake. Didn't feel that welcome! When our rooms were ready our children's room was on a different floor which was accessed from the Main Street but could also be accessed inside. Would look better to show the way from the inside as felt a bit worrying going outside as didn't know Bristol and the area. The rooms were fine but a bit tired. One big nag was that the door to the balcony could not be opened and a real shame because it would have been lovely to sit outside with a cup of tea to see the view. I had specifically booked a river view. Apparently the maintenance man wasn't around and therefore more or less told to cope with it. When I reported it again on checkout the male staff member was more apologetic. I just wanted to get it sorted for the next person. Breakfast was good with a variety of choices self service. The hotel I would rate 6/10. Expensive for what you get. Staff could be a bit more welcoming and if problems can't be sorted immediately a bit of smiling and I'm sorry go a long way. If you order Sunday papers ours didn't come till we left the room at 08.30 for breakfast. The area of Clifton is a lovely area to look around with lovely shops and arcades.

Old and tired but amazing location”
The best and unique feature of this hotel is its location - perched immediately above the Avon Gorge and looking directly across to the Suspension Bridge. The hotel is old and rather tired looking, although currently being refurbished (which didn't help the internal atmosphere!) and improved. There is a huge outdoor terrace with fantastic views, although this was rather spoilt one day by being closed to guests for a private party. Staff service is casual and not particularly good - too many students and too little supervision. By far the best rooms are those with the Gorge view; most of the street view rooms looked very small.

You go for the viee”
Had a lovely weekend in a superior balcony room. Too expensive for a small room and the hotel has zero facilities (no pool spa gym etc) - but to be able to sit on the balcony and gaze at the bridge and Avon gorge made it all worth while. Decor is bang on trend but makes room terribly dark - and they are small with little storage. Balcony gorgeous but could you splash out on something comfortable to sit on? Not cold iron things. On the other hand, contrary to other reviews, service was absolutely fine and the bar areas are very nice. Thanks for a nice weekend!

Acceptable”
we decided to book a 2 night stay at the Avon Gorge Hotel,as we were visiting family in Bristol. We normally stay at a cheaper chain hotel but decided to treat ourselves as it was my husbands birthday on the Friday. When we arrived we realised there was major refurbishment work going on, which we were not told when we booked, and the work started at 8am the next morning right above us!They also worked Saturday morning, starting a little later. We were seeing family on the Friday night so we had booked a table in the hotel restaurant, so we could spend a quiet evening dining with them. However, there was a function in the adjoining room and very quickly the bar/restaurant filled with party revellers. It was impossible to have a normal conversation, and equally as difficult to get anyones attention as they were clearly understaffed. The ceilidh band were very noisy and the adjoining door was just left open, it became ridiculously loud.We moved round to the cafe area to try and talk there but then the football songs started. It was a very expensive meal, and we felt the evening was ruined. The room was very nice and the bed was very comfy, but the lighting was poor and i had to put a small mirror on the window sill so that I could see to put my make-up on! we did complain on leaving but as yet have had no response from the hotel.

Great location ”
good choice for clifton. room was reasonably comfortable and quiet, although hotel is a bit of a warren, and we didn't have a view. the outside seating area on the terrace is nice in the sun and very popular - good for people watching. service was friendly.

Nice view but a long walk from city centre.”
The hotel overlooks the landmark Bristol suspension bridge. The view from the resturant is great. The room is clean and the service is good. However, it is a little bit too far from the city centre.

We booked into the hotel I was not happy with our first room so the hotel staff moved us with no fuss. The 2nd room was lovely and we were very comfortable. The evening was very comfortable. Staying at Avon Gorge”
Good apart from parking. We only just managed to get the last space and then had to walk some distance to the front entrance in the pouring rain. There were no signs indicating where the front entrance was and we had to ask 3 people before we found out!
