Fine guesthouse”
I liked my stay here. Drinking tea and having breakfast with an amazing few. Close to the train Station. Owner is helpful. The bed had a very thin matras and a very thin blanket. I was not the most comfortable bed I stayed in, but it was okay. Free pickup/dropoff to train station is a big plus.

Great overall”
We had a great stay overall. It's clean and comfortable. The room we stayed has a very nice view especially at night. But the bed is not very comfortable with weird sound.

Dissapointing 7.0 March 2016”
The manager did not know we were booked in so we spent a night in the standard room at the back of the hotel. It was dark, smelled of moth balls and full of mosquitoes. The next day we were given the deluxe room we had booked which was a huge improvement. Unfortunately there was building work taking place up stairs and the hotel was being painted around us.The location is on a busy road so the traffic noise is unpleasant both day and night, this also meant that walking from the hotel was pretty scary. The manager was helpful in arranging transport and advising us of local sights to visit. The food was good with European type breakfast and Sri Lankan curry in the evening. This is a good place for a one night stay.

Perfect location, great hotel”
Location, staff, room standard
Excellent stay, would go back there again. It's worth to pay a little nore for delux double to have excellent view and the balcony. Nice common space, great breakfast but rest of the food is overpriced - 770 for rice and 2 curries - it's better to have lunch in the city. Everything else is great!

Excellent views, service and food”

I was at the Awinko for two nights and I really enjoyed my time there. It is a little bit far from the centre, so if you want to buy something or go to town to have dinner you have to think it twice (the distance may be between one and two quilometres). Nonetheless, the views from the terrace are nice, the staff is superfriendly and the food is excellent. If you stay for dinner, don't hesitate: ask for rice and curry and you won't regret. The mistress is a really good cooker, and she's very nice. The boss is also nice, as he changed my room without mine asking because there was a vacancy in a better room than the one I stayed the first night. I would definetely repeat.

We were a super pleasent stay at Awinco! The location in great, and the owner can arrange all the tour in the area without any charge! The wife is cooking very well and we did a free cooking course how to make chicken curry.. Great!! If you go to haputale it's a very good choice

Good view and nice family”
It has very good view in the balcony. The food is ok with fair price. The host and hotess r nice.
It's on the main road and only 700-800m from railway station. Easy to find and walk there. It has the great view on balcony. U could see different scene from ealy morning to evening. There r 2 rooms with balcony and mountain view. They r also maintained and decorated well. But my room is disappointed. I don't care about it has no balcony, but it's indeed a little bit old and shabby. The blanket and the sheet r also old. And the blanket is too small even for a lady like me (I'm only 160cm). The blanket in balcony room looks good. Moreover, my towel is poorer than this other balcony room. I hope it's only distributed randomly and I was in bad luck. Anyway, it's just u got what u paid. BTW, Haputale was suffered power-cut on the day I arrived. So there was no hot water for shower and I had to use cold water. In that time, outside temp is only about 20 degree! The host and hostess r nice. The host know a lot of tour info about Hapulate and Ella and he always give u some suggestion. The tuktuk driver he introduced r also a nice guy.

Great Evening Meal, Value for Money, Jungle Hen visit
Great Value for money. Good location for bus and away from the main town centre in Haputale, which isn't great. Very attentive owner and ensured that I was happy and they cooked an excellent evening meal, which was great as there are no food outlets in Haputale.

Controversial place”
Mountain view
The rooms where we stayed had nice mountain views. Surprisingly, the bathroom was divided from the room by only a wall without any door so the bathroom actually was in the room. The proximity of the road makes the mountain view room noisy. Breakfast is average and for some reason does not include any tea or coffee.

Friendly Staff, cold damp rooms.”
family run, nice food, amazing views
Awinco is a very friendly family run hotel with great views. Despite it being advertised as being in Ella it is actually in Haputale, about an hour away. The family that run the hotel are really helpful and friendly and their son Ovin is very sweet, even leaving Christmas gifts at our room door. The food is nice and it's just a few minutes walk from Haputale. On the down side, there is no heating in the rooms or in the common room so when it's cold (most of the time as you're high up) it's really cold and damp everywhere in the hotel. The showers aren't great, the bathroom has seen better days and it's a little overpriced for what you get.

Rice and curry!
Very attentive staff who cooked delicious food and even packed us a free breakfast for our trip to Hortons Plains, having to get up at 4:30 to do this! The room had a balcony with a great view of the landscape, and location was good and easy to find from train station. Booked a Hortons Plains trip and shared a car with other travellers from the guesthouse which made it cheaper as it was a 48km distance away! There were other attractions nearby though which the staff were very keen to organise for you.
