Great location, Accomodating Staff!”
Augusto of receptionist is a Gem. Ashim of Sky Bar is a wonderful bartender. The Housekeeping ladies Are Very polite. Breakfast selection, lighting and warm accomodation by café manager is a beautiful experience.
The hotel is located in a great spot, just in the missle of the city centre - close to everyrthing. The rooms are nice and well equiped and the staff is very nice and helpfull. The hotel is not cheap at all though! I got an email just few days before I arrived, telling me that the spa and rooftop are under constructions. Obviously the price stayed the same.
Wonderful hip hotel...great location”
Excellent base in Barcelona...modern hip hotel inside a classic 1920's building...short walk to Metro (Station Universitat)...surrounded by plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. And only 10min walk to La Ramblas. Reception staff were SO good and room modern and spotless, great wifi
Luxuriuos City Stay”
My stay in Axel was overall a pleasing, confortable experience. The rooms were well appointed and luxuious, modern and clean. The internet was quick and reliable. The staff were very friendly and dealt with all customer requests efficiently. The location of the hotel is very central in the city.
Great position to enjoy Barcelona”
This is a "hetero-friendly" hotel, so it won't be everyone's cup of tea. But for open minded people, it is well located to lots of places to eat, and drink, and a short walk to the main shopping areas. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Fun, clean, good location”
I stayed here once a long time ago and it has the same charm. I booked here as I thought that it would be good to go to the gym but that was a mistake, the gym is cramped and the free weights are not heavy enough. The changing rooms are also not great. I think it's not great that you have to pay extra for the spa but it's a different company and is what it is. A long time ago the bar was more friendly, the jacuzzi was open late and there was just a slightly happier atmosphere and it seems to have lost that. It was nice to come back again for nostalgia but I won't be back. The people on reception were lovely and really helpful. The bar staff were slow and rude.
Enjoyed two nights at this hotel, friendly staff who were helpful with an early chech in. Double bed was uncomfortable as it was two single beds pushed together, so that was disappointing for a hotel aiming for a gay market.
Great location & facilities”
Situated pretty close to the main city area, we could almost walk everywhere. 1km + to gothic quarters, and to la sagrada. Less than that to the shopping district, La Rambla, Casa Battlo and Casa Mila (La Pedrera). Along the way, there are always many restaurants and cafes which you can stop at to enjoy tapas and sangria. The hotel is modern in design, something which I prefer. The rooftop pool is a little small, but it's great that there are enough sunbeds to go around. Otherwise, you can also pay a small sum to go to the spa at the basement - we went twice! In the room, we were a little amused by the number of suggestive illustrations of gay men on the safe, facility card, etc, but it didn't bother us much.
a hotel deserving your stay”
I reserved a single room, but it is big enough for u to "toss and turn" at night. What is priaise wotthy is its location, which is only five minutes walk from the metro, where you can reach almost every corner of the city.
The Alex Hotel is well located in Barcelona, easy to walk almost anywhere. The staff was helpful, but often there was a wait to get someone to assist you. Given the size of the hotel it would have been nice to have more staff available to assist with check in & out, as well as assist with other issues. The external architecture of the building is quite beautiful & it has been tastefully updated inside. The wifi in the hotel was very unsatisfactory, very slow and often shutting down mid downloads. I expected bette service.
All that you need for a long weekend in BCN”
My sister and I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The location is perfect, the hotel has all the services you will need and the staff is very helpful and friendly. We would definitely book this one again!
JUST WHAT I NEEDED”
The staff were great - and beyond having a personality - were very informative, without overt formality. A gay bar on the roof was a great way to meet people, and I did! Axel is very well located, with facilities within a few blocks of everything. I was in a disabled access suite which was fine, but for the shower curtain fail meaning the whole floor was wet all the time = wet feet overtime you enter the bathroom.
Great gay hotel”
I would recommend this hotel as a must for any gay traveller to Barcelona. It is not a 5 star W hotel, but I think it has many advantages that the W doesnt have. Well worth a visit at least once! I would come back again
Good but overrated”
Great location but a little cramped. Tiny reception area and small elevators shared with patrons of the terrace bar, resulting in long waits for hotel customers. Room was fine, not as nice as the ones pictured on the website. Even though it was a premium room, the shower leaked and on the first day it didn't get cleaned until 7 pm (we left the room by 11 am). It is a great choice for gay travelers but I think it's a little overpriced and overrated, nearby 4-star hotels looked roomier and less cramped with things.
"Please Disturb" - now that's something fun! ;)”
Very helpful and friendly staff during my entire stay, one named Ricardo was especially kind and reminded me to beware of the pickpockets daily! Room was ok. The most unique and never before seen was the "Please Disturb" sign which you can hang on your door if that's what you seek. :D The hotel has several units of lift which worked independently, and slowly. ;)
Great location city chic hotel”
We had a good stay at the Axel 2 weeks ago. It is conveniently located and near to restaurants, bars, shopping and places of interests. The staffs were friendly, speaks good English and helpful. We had the Axel City room, which has a nice balcony facing the street. The glass doors were soundproof and kept the room quiet enough for a good rest. I had a chance to have a look at the Deluxe room and would definitely stay there the next trip as there is more wardrobe space which I needed more for my luggages. Other than that, the CIty room was nice and comfy.
I travel alone and also it was very clean and also gay friendly hotel so people are so nice and open minded. I loved that part but when you go inside the room it could be smaller than picture but you will like it also price is reasonable as well.
Great location and wonderful service”
Staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. When I arrived at the hotel, I requested a room on an upper floor. I was very pleased as I was given a room with a balcony with a street view, on an upper floor. The room was spacious, clean, and modern. Very good gym and spa within the hotel. I ate breakfast in the hotel every day - the buffet was very good and reasonably priced.
Great location, freindly staff”
Overall I was super happy with my stay at Axel. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Also the room is good, the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The cleaning could have been better. I had to ask for things that should have been done. They immediately responded to that, so the reaction was again very good. I never ate there so I give it a 4 because "not applicable" button doesn't exist.
A gay hotel that welcomes straight customers. A very good location, just 10 minutes walk to a subway station and airport bus station, and the famous shopping street. Room is nice and clean, has a comfortable bed, a strong shower, air conditioner, and a flat TV with BBC, CNN and others. A convenient store is nearby, and there are also several good restaurants on Casanova road - 2 blocks away.
