Great base to see Bagan”
The Ayarrawaddy River View is a nice hotel overlooking the river in Mandalay. The rooms are not new but in good condition and spotlessly clean. The bathroom is large with a bath tub, and it's own hot water tank. There is a flat screen TV with English channels, and a safe. The rooms are quite spacious. The rooms either have a river view or a city view. We had a city view room which looked all the way to the mountains and Mandalay Hill. Quite a good view! The hotel has a Happy Hour on the spectacular roof top terrace where you receive free house cocktails for the hour. Cocktails are normally K5000-6000 each. The main reason to be at the Happy Hour is to see the sunset which of course is spectacular. The river is wide at this point and there are numerous small boats going up and down the river. The sun sets behind the hills opposite the hotel. It is then rather nice to stay on the roof terrace after Happy Hour and have dinner. The food is OK and consists of pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, pasta dishes, and asian standards. The surrounding area is mostly local markets. It's all a bit dirty and dusty, and chaotic, with cars, buses, and motorbikes weaving in and out near the market, and further down the road herds of Brahman cows grazing on the nature strip. We did not explore the immediate area, although there appeared to be nothing much of interest. You could walk along the riverfront road if you wanted but it's a bit difficult to get a view of the river due to all the stalls. It may be interesting to view local life first hand. The best thing to do if you don't dine in the hotel would be to get a taxi into town. The hotel has a small clean pool with a few deck chairs.. Overall a nice place to stay for a good view of the river and town. The staff are all very nice and helpful.

Out of the way but beautiful sunsets of Ayerwaddy from rooftop bar!”
Nice clean hotel that wasn’t very busy. It’s on the more expensive side but if you enjoy gorgeous sunsets of the Ayarwaddy River then it’s the place to go. They even offer free cocktails (their choice of drink) for an hour at sunset. Food was pretty good there as well. Rooms were clean and spacious. Has a makeup area for women. Bathroom comes with a tub. Water was hard to adjust but minor complaint. Pool is small and a little green. They changed the water the last day we were there. Fitness facility is small and dark. One complaint is they have their own taxis that charge too much. Away from the core so hard to get your own cheaper taxi. Problem with Mandalay in general is that the taxis all try to gouge you. The city is so spread out that it is impossible to walk around and there is no discernible downtown core. Spent more on taxis there than anything in Yangon. There is a city amusement park 0.7 kilometres of the hotel. Spent half a day there even though some of the rides were sketchy. Overall a nice hotel with the best view of the Ayarwaddy River. The rooftop bar/restaurant is the highlight!

Pleasant Stay!”
I spent two days in Mandalay and the Ayarwaddy River Hotel provided a wonderful and convenient accommodation in the city. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the room was full of natural light with the great view of the river; and in addition, there was a pool to dip in the hot afternoon. It was a very pleasant stay I had in Mandalay.

Super-friendly Staff and convenient”
I went to Mandalay for a week escape from my work in Singapore. I wanted to be near the river to take advantage of river day trips. The Ayarwaddy Riverview Hotel was a good choice. The SkyBar offered happy hour from 5 - 6 and a riverview sunset from 6 - 6:10. The food, I thought was quite well prepared and moderately priced (USD 6 - 10). Staff was super friendly and when I had a question, often took me to the place in question (Boat Jetty, Medical shop). While there was street noise in the early evening, the noise slep from 9pm until 4am - as a father of 4 kids I know how to shut out noise - so I did not consider this a negative. I enjoyed walking along the river and just watching river life. Would book again

Under-rated for its rating”
This hotel was refreshingly surprising; it was not our top choice (which was booked) but I have no regrets. The view from our top floor window was outstanding and the food was full of pleasant surprises. Mandalay is a dusty town, with plenty to see and enjoy in the environs (mostly outside of the city itself) and if you have no reason to walk to the town centre (not sure why you would), the views from the terrace over the river are unrivaled - better that Mandalay Hill; better than anywhere else I saw. The biggest surprise was the food - local cuisine, sometimes incorrectly labelled but always delicious and well presented. They even throw in a happy hour and marionette show. The breakfasts are not up to the same standard as the roof terrace (different kitchen?) and the styling is a little tired (varnished Burma Teak deco) if a little spartan but as a place to go after a fun day exploring - fabulous!

Beautiful Oasis”
This is one of the few river-side hotels in Mandalay, but as a result, is about 3k from the centre of town. There aren't many shops ot restaurants nearby. The rooms are spacious, clean, well equipped with good wi-fi. We had a rear-facing room, which are much cooler and quieter than the front, river-view rooms that overlook a busy road with hot afternoon sun. The breakfast buffet is vast. The staff are superb - well-trained, speak English and couldn't do enough for you. The top feature of this hotel is the roof-top bar and restaurant, with sweeping views over the river. The bar serves a complimentary, free-flow cocktail of the day to hotel guests daily, for the duration of the spectacular sunset over the river.. Recommended.

An average business hotel but great for Mandalay”
A "low-end" 4-star business hotel but likely best in Mandalay. The hotel is fairly new and the rooms are OK - we changed from a two-room suite to a larger single room to get river view. Ask for a 5th floor room with river view if possible. At front of hotel is a nice, if tiny, pool and garden and the roof-top bar has amazing sunset views, free drinks every day AND a free puppet show for diners & hotel guests. We were pleasantly surprised by hotel compared to expectations.

Best positioned hotel in Mandalay”
Watching the sun set across Irrawaddy River from hotel’s 5th floor open air roof top bar/ restaurant is world class travel experience. Hotel is on riverfront road, away from congestion of downtown Mandalay. A hidden gem - that probably only adventurous travellers may experience. But definitely worth the effort- this location will also be a highlight of your visit to Mandalay ( along with your ts myriads of temples”.

Great place in Mandalay ”
We liked this place so much that we came back at the end of our trip. The hotel is away from the city (noisy, dusty) and has a wonderful view on the river and Mandalay hill from the rooftop restaurant. The atmosphere is very relaxing. Happy hour at the rooftop restaurant at sunset is great. The restaurant is a bit pricey but portions are big and the food is the best we've had during our trip. The buffet for breakfast is very good. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. Will definitely come back on a next visit to Myanmar.

Good venue for New year's Eve”
We had an excellent room overlooking the river on the top floor, the only double room on the top floor with a river view. It was a tremendous sight to wake up to the expanse of the Ayarwaddy River. The rooftop bar and restaurant (Sky Bar) is also a superb venue. Staff are really helpful and friendly. The breakfast is quite good. Food and alcohol is not cheap.

Good base with the best sunset views”
the river view was good value for money, the rooms were a bit old fashioned , but clean and comfortable . the pool was a refreshing temperature after the intense heat of Mandalay . the hotel staff organised two local guides for us and both were superb and met all our expectations. travelling through Mandalay city , we were glad we stayed here rather than down town as Mandalay is very chaotic . Only downside there are not many places in the neighbourhood to eat , so we eat in each night , but the menu was very good and free entertainment ( dancing , puppet dolls, music.... ) .

Luxury at Affordable Price”
On arriving at the hotel we were amazed at the quality of the hotel for the price. While we only had the basic room (still wonderful) for a few $$ more you can upgrade to spectacular rooms. While the location may go against the hotel, it is only a $5 taxi ride to the shopping centres etc. Free cocktail hour every evening was also a great touch. Would definitely stay again if in Mandalay.

lovely stay”
nice stay - hotel is big and clean with a pool and rooftop bar/dining. the staff are very friendly and helpful. room has all the creature comforts needed. breakfast is a large buffet with plenty of options and all you can eat. best we have had in Myanmar. The location is good if you want to walk to the jetty to catch a boat to Mingun, and the busy street the hotel is on offers an interesting insight into life in Mandalay. However, as it is further out, taxis to the main attractions in town were expensive (for Myanmar standards). But view of river is nice and hotel is a good option. We managed to get a discounted room price, otherwise it does feel like the rooms are a bit too expensive.

Excellent Staff - so helpful”
Our family stayed at the Ayarwaddy River View Hotel because we had planned an excursion on the river which is just across the street from the hotel. Since the hotel is near the river, it is not in the middle of town though and kinda far from restaurants and other activities. We had a little problem when we arrived, but the staff was great to correct the problem and gave us a room upgrade. The staff went out of their way several times to accomodate our needs. The breakfast was meager and simple, but sufficient. The pool was a refreshing highlight in the hot afternoons. It's definitely not the newest or nicest hotel in Mandalay, but it was adequate for our family.

Couple of nights first night in mandalay”
Beautiful sky at sunset - view over the Ayarwaddy - working river, atmospheric experience. Hotel carries sense of history, old and not new - everything worked well though. We loved this experience ✨✨

Great value with excellent rooftop restaurant”
A great hotel if you are looking for great service and well appointed rooms. It's not exactly the pristine river views that you might expect but you have to remember that this is a working river. Take in the views of the city and the river from the rooftop which becomes a lovely restaurant with a romantic ambience in the evening. We ate both breakfast and dinner at the hotel and enjoyed the food and service thoroughly. The staff were accomodating and provided great information for our daily activities. they were also able to link us up with great taxi and three wheeler drivers who spoke English.

Good hotel, our room was very spacious ”
Good hotel with a great view from the roof restaurant (pity that they only serve dinner there). Our deluxe river view room was very spacious however did not have a balcony as Agoda advertised though others seemed to have. Restaurant staff were friendly, and the pool area was nice in the afternoon though quite noisy due to the proximity of the road in front. We were travelling with a 10 month baby and they were able to provide a cot. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Mandalay.

Excellent room”
A good option for Mandalay, although the location is not the best one (slums in front of the hotel), it is still better than compared to other hotels: nice view to the river, mountains, to the city, nice roof terrace, good pool for swimming in the evening, good breakfast. Service: weak englisch (absolutely necessary to have a general manager with good language skills), informations given were not correct and they didn't allow us to have our driver parking the car there while we wanted to go for a boat tour. Anyhow, friendly and they try their best. In general can be recommended.

A decent hotel for the money in an expensive city”
The Ayarwaddy River View Hotel is pretty basic but a decent option for the price in an expensive city. The staff were very helpful and paid attention to detail. The location is OK in terms of a river view but the sights of Mandalay are quite spread out so you do need to rely on taxis. I would recommend to stay there if you are in Mandalay and don't want to pay for a five star option.
