Great value with excellent rooftop restaurant”
A great hotel if you are looking for great service and well appointed rooms. It's not exactly the pristine river views that you might expect but you have to remember that this is a working river. Take in the views of the city and the river from the rooftop which becomes a lovely restaurant with a romantic ambience in the evening. We ate both breakfast and dinner at the hotel and enjoyed the food and service thoroughly. The staff were accomodating and provided great information for our daily activities. they were also able to link us up with great taxi and three wheeler drivers who spoke English.
I spent two days in Mandalay and the Ayarwaddy River Hotel provided a wonderful and convenient accommodation in the city. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the room was full of natural light with the great view of the river; and in addition, there was a pool to dip in the hot afternoon. It was a very pleasant stay I had in Mandalay.
Nice view from the roof, but the location is sketchy at night”
Cons: At night time it is very difficult to find transport to take you to the bars/clubs. The area is considered a little bit on the sketchy side by locals, even though i never personally felt unsafe. Gym equipment is below average. Pool is adequate. Pros: Some nice markets to explore in the mornings close-by and the rooftop terrace has a nice sunset view. Rooms are spacious.
Couple of nights first night in mandalay”
Beautiful sky at sunset - view over the Ayarwaddy - working river, atmospheric experience. Hotel carries sense of history, old and not new - everything worked well though. We loved this experience ✨✨
Out of the way but beautiful sunsets of Ayerwaddy from rooftop bar!”
Nice clean hotel that wasn’t very busy. It’s on the more expensive side but if you enjoy gorgeous sunsets of the Ayarwaddy River then it’s the place to go. They even offer free cocktails (their choice of drink) for an hour at sunset. Food was pretty good there as well. Rooms were clean and spacious. Has a makeup area for women. Bathroom comes with a tub. Water was hard to adjust but minor complaint. Pool is small and a little green. They changed the water the last day we were there. Fitness facility is small and dark. One complaint is they have their own taxis that charge too much. Away from the core so hard to get your own cheaper taxi. Problem with Mandalay in general is that the taxis all try to gouge you. The city is so spread out that it is impossible to walk around and there is no discernible downtown core. Spent more on taxis there than anything in Yangon. There is a city amusement park 0.7 kilometres of the hotel. Spent half a day there even though some of the rides were sketchy. Overall a nice hotel with the best view of the Ayarwaddy River. The rooftop bar/restaurant is the highlight!
The right choice to be close to boat pier”
We chose the hotel because we took the boat to Bagan early in the morning. It is close to the pier (3 min by taxi), has a roof-top bar, a restaurant and a small pool (unfortunately just at the road and thus pretty noisy). The area is not really great and there is nothing close by which wasn't an issue for us as we only stayed one night there. The room we had was spacious, very nice and clean, and the staff is very friendly and attentive.
A nice spot to relax and watch the sunset”
I live in Mandalay, but sometimes some of us just want a night away from home. I've been to the rooftop bar a number of times and stayed in the hotel once, and it's always been a very pleasant experience. It can be a bit on the pricey side, but I think that it's generally worth the money.
Nice sunset in the Sky bar.”
Friendly and helpful staff, hotel is located a bit far from downtown but the along tje river with a very good sunset view on the rooftop bar. The room is clean and large. Recommended for traveller who love a sunset.
Luxury at Affordable Price”
On arriving at the hotel we were amazed at the quality of the hotel for the price. While we only had the basic room (still wonderful) for a few $$ more you can upgrade to spectacular rooms. While the location may go against the hotel, it is only a $5 taxi ride to the shopping centres etc. Free cocktail hour every evening was also a great touch. Would definitely stay again if in Mandalay.
Nice view and friendly staff but location too loud”
The rooms were quite nice but river view rooms were exceptionally loud considering the road traffic in front. Trucks, cars, motorcycles, and boats going at all hours. Location is far from many things and taxis are far more expensive than in Yangon. Room was overpriced considering this. Dinner menu is very good and breakfast is basic but good. Staff are amazingly helpful and kind.
Great views of river ”
Clean, with attentive staff. Got with online deal, wouldn’t pay the full amount as would be very pricey. Out of town so taxis cost a bit to get in\out, but also good to be out of the city at times too. Food was delicious, but most expensive we had in Myanmar. Great view or river and city from roof top, and pool was clean.
Beautiful sunset on rooftop but get there early
Best positioned hotel in Mandalay”
Watching the sun set across Irrawaddy River from hotel’s 5th floor open air roof top bar/ restaurant is world class travel experience. Hotel is on riverfront road, away from congestion of downtown Mandalay. A hidden gem - that probably only adventurous travellers may experience. But definitely worth the effort- this location will also be a highlight of your visit to Mandalay ( along with your ts myriads of temples”.
Great staff !!! Friendly helpful arranging cabs and restaurant recommendations. Even arranged for complimentary breakfast to be had on the train to Hsipaw that left at 4 AM which was so thoughtful. Restaurant had great food and view of river . If you get the tooms facing the river on the top floors the view is incomparable
Good venue for New year's Eve”
We had an excellent room overlooking the river on the top floor, the only double room on the top floor with a river view. It was a tremendous sight to wake up to the expanse of the Ayarwaddy River. The rooftop bar and restaurant (Sky Bar) is also a superb venue. Staff are really helpful and friendly. The breakfast is quite good. Food and alcohol is not cheap.
Nice hotel but poor location. ”
This is supposed to be river view but nothing much to see. Also you can't take a walk by the river as this is near the fish market and the place is quite dirty and smelly. The hotel is ok but poorly situated.
Excellent alternative hotel”
The GM is very helpful and the staff work hard to make your visit comfortable. Really enjoyed the Sky Bar with its puppet show. The location is quite good. The view over the Ayiwaddi River is spectacular.
A good option for Mandalay, although the location is not the best one (slums in front of the hotel), it is still better than compared to other hotels: nice view to the river, mountains, to the city, nice roof terrace, good pool for swimming in the evening, good breakfast. Service: weak englisch (absolutely necessary to have a general manager with good language skills), informations given were not correct and they didn't allow us to have our driver parking the car there while we wanted to go for a boat tour. Anyhow, friendly and they try their best. In general can be recommended.
We stayed one night in this hotel. We had book a deluxe river view room with an extra bed (two adults, a 6 and 8 year old). The room was smaller than anticipated, but ok. We did not have a River view - blocked by the trees as we were only on the 3rd floor. The hotel is in need of renovations - especially the bathrooms, in general the rooms look 'tired'. Their 'sky' bar (6th floor) is nice and does have a good view over the river. The hotel is a little farther from the center of town, taxi is inexpensive to get to the palace. Breakfast was ok. The front desk staff did not remember to book our airport taxi (we made it to the airport on time, without issue), it was frustrating though. We would not return to this hotel - I think we would look for somewhere more centrally located. For the price and quality of the hotel it just wasn't worth being outside the city centre.
Great base to see Bagan”
The Ayarrawaddy River View is a nice hotel overlooking the river in Mandalay. The rooms are not new but in good condition and spotlessly clean. The bathroom is large with a bath tub, and it's own hot water tank. There is a flat screen TV with English channels, and a safe. The rooms are quite spacious. The rooms either have a river view or a city view. We had a city view room which looked all the way to the mountains and Mandalay Hill. Quite a good view! The hotel has a Happy Hour on the spectacular roof top terrace where you receive free house cocktails for the hour. Cocktails are normally K5000-6000 each. The main reason to be at the Happy Hour is to see the sunset which of course is spectacular. The river is wide at this point and there are numerous small boats going up and down the river. The sun sets behind the hills opposite the hotel. It is then rather nice to stay on the roof terrace after Happy Hour and have dinner. The food is OK and consists of pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, pasta dishes, and asian standards. The surrounding area is mostly local markets. It's all a bit dirty and dusty, and chaotic, with cars, buses, and motorbikes weaving in and out near the market, and further down the road herds of Brahman cows grazing on the nature strip. We did not explore the immediate area, although there appeared to be nothing much of interest. You could walk along the riverfront road if you wanted but it's a bit difficult to get a view of the river due to all the stalls. It may be interesting to view local life first hand. The best thing to do if you don't dine in the hotel would be to get a taxi into town. The hotel has a small clean pool with a few deck chairs.. Overall a nice place to stay for a good view of the river and town. The staff are all very nice and helpful.
