Something Different
I'm was on a business trip with my wife. Decided to book a "traditional chinese" feel hotel for a change. Was greeted by a warm welcome by the front desk staff. They were polite and helpful, especially the "ah yee" helping with housekeeping. Room was abit old but comfortable. Breakfast was ok but not fantastic. The ambience in the courtyard was very nice and serene.

Shanghai stay for a family wedding
We experienced hotels at different rates, locations and offering in different parts of Shanghai. B'La Vii House was easily the best value. The staff was excellent and worked hard to please. Usually the head person on staff had good English skills. The garden was wonderful. The hotel represented a small haven in this densely-packed city.

Comfortable, convenient, special
Chinese and western combination, cozy, good neighborhood
Many good restarts in walking distance. You can feel old Shanghai atmosphere in the neighborhood. Chinese congee breakfast is good. Free coffee and cookies are available at the salon in the entrance.

Definitely overrated.
location.
It was not a pleasant stay. The internet does not work. I had to steal the neighbor's wifi in order to send an email. The safer is broken, has to be operated manually (using a mechanical key). The refrigerator is at room temperature (They told me that some guests complained that the drink was too cold so they turned off the refrigerator. What a joke!). The furniture was too simple and there is only one chair in the room. We have two people, one has to sit on the bed. The breakfast is boring and extremely simple.

Good location, not much else
great location with good public transport connections and excellent dining options within walking distance
This is not a five star hotel- more like a three star b'n'b in a nice neighborhood. Well priced for Shanghai. Staff spoke very little English and some none at all. Go for the Chinese breakfast if you must, but a better option is to walk five minutes to nearby bakery Farine for excellent pastries and decent coffee. Room was a little dusty but overall decent level of cleanliness.
