    Central and basic”

If you’re searching for a cheap and basic place to sleep Baan lanna walking street is the right place. Located at the end of the main walking street you find yourself close to the main action with some cafes, restaurants and scooter rentals within 5-10 min walking distance. We booked a double bed with fan room and were surprised that instead of windows there were only big recesses covered with mosquito nets in the very thin walls. The mosquitos, however, must have found their way through the nets ... just like the snoring sounds of a guy 4 rooms down the hallway. Not the best place to tell someone your secrets, but overall a good bang for your buck. The staff barely speaks English but let us place our two big backpacks in a storage room, while we rented a scooter to go to Pai for a night. Go to Tawan bike for renting a scooter and not to the rental next door suggested by the staff. The prices are almost the same (200THB compared 250THB), but the scooters you get at Tawan bikes are a lot stronger (125cc and higher), plus they are very friendly and cooperative.

    Great location”

Right on the Sunday Walking Street (night market). Near to Wat Phra Singh, 7-Eleven. Easy to rent motorcycle from next door shop. The room was not that bad. Not that great either. Just good good. It suit the price. Chiang Mai old city is not that big, so it's very easy to just walk from this hotel. The receptionist was kind enough to let me check-in early. There is a deposit for hotel key (remember to get it back before you check-out). At night, there is loud noise from a pub nearby. But it didn't bother me much. Overall, it's a good stay.

Great location but not that Great ”

Baan Lanna Walking Street is greatly located in the Old City of Chiang Mai. I stayed there for 9 nights as I was following some classes within the city. I can't complain about the price. I mean 280 baths per night for a single room with a private bathroom is a great deal. However, I haven't been amazed by the cleanliness. The room had a little moisty smell and the bathroom was a bit filthy. The water for the shower had a weird smell as well. AND I HAD BED BUGS ON MY BED!!!! While bed bugs can be found everywhere from filthy to the cleanest place, it is always very annoying to get a skin rash while traveling. I changed to another room, but none of the staff even asked if everything was fine after this little accident. More concerned from the staff would have been appreciated.

sunday market just 1step outside the house

Due to the Yee Peng (Loy Krathong) Festval, i moved to Lanna GH from another hotel outside old town. I stayed 5nights there since Sat. Sunday market just right outside the house! So great to put my shopping stuff to the room n went for second round of shopping or massage or meals... Night bazaar was comparatively far away, but still walking distance. Many temples just near by. Gd cafe and cheap massage just in the corner. It was pretty reasonable with that cheap price. Small single room with fan in 2/F which is just big enough for a single traveller. But at least got my own bathroom with hot water. Luckily it was not that hot at night in Nov when i was there. However the music from the bar next door was somehow pretty annoying at night.

I stayed here for 22 days. The staff is nice, both the ladies in the morning and the gents at night. Even the lady owner was very nice. I really appreciated how she got worried about me for mosquitoes while sitting at one of the benches along the entrance aisle. She told me to move at the front area, instead. There is a free coffee in the morning from 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Just ask for a cup from the receptionist. There is a coffee shop though at the opposite side of the street. Bank, ATM, Western Union, 711 money exchange, pharmacy, restaurant is nearby. Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang are amongst the nearby temples too. I had great days and nights at this hostel, indeed! Thank you so much! (Visit my blog www.yuyuaien.com for more info!)

Staff were really helpful, room was practical, lots of extra’s and perks such as transport to Pai right from the Hotel, nice restaurant and tea shop attached, really good location in the centre of the town as well! Only improvement I would say is for more comfortable mattresses however for the price they are practical

    Fairly Good Value”

cheap, central location, rooms cleaned frequently

This hotel has cheap rooms with good bathrooms, which is a definite bonus. They're quite cute, painted with bright colours and flowers, but very small. For people who want to be in the middle of the old city, especially if boutiques and day spas and fancy coffee shops is your kind of thing, it's the perfect location. Rooms are cleaned regularly. The biggest issue was the noise, which carries terribly. I happened to stay here when there was an almost unimaginably noisy group of people on my floor, though, and each night they'd excitedly walk back and forth knocking on each others' doors repeatedly, whilst yelling at the top of their voices. On other nights it was significantly quieter. Some staff were friendly and others seemed slightly apathetic.

Clean, easy to find and cheap

I had a single ensuite room which was clean and even had a little notebook with tips and info about Chiang Mai.thought it was quiet safe though the wifi is a bit too spotty and it can get a bit too noisy (my room was close to the dorms and people kept chatting loudly) so I would advise getting or bringing earplugs!

Warm but small/very low shower head. Pressure was ok. Internet was extremely spotty in the room but good in the lobby area. Clean enough but not great. Good location in the center of the old city. If you are looking for the party/bar area look closer to tha phae gate. Was quite loud but we were there around New Years so it may be different than usual. Overall decent.

    Good location”

Great location. Opposite coffee shops and 7/11's, short walks to wats, bars and restaurants. Great when the Sunday walking Street market as it's on your door step. The rooms were small as we were there 5 nights so okay if your there a couple nights. Main issue we had was there were these little bugs all over the bed but we checked they weren't bed bugs and stuck it out. Only had house keeping once, not good for the length of time we were there meaning we had to get our towels changed ourselves and buy loo roll. Overall wasn't too bad but you can find much better.

sunday market just outside the door, cheap price

i choose this gusethouse because some of the review said the market just in front of door, yes, i arrived at sunday and the market is really in front of door, but it sunday only. and be careful there have a lot of hotel/gusethouse named lanna, my tuk tuk driver took me to the wrong one and i have to bring my heavy luggage cross around sunday market to find the guesthouse. and the room is really dirty, there have a lot of gum on the floor, the shower is always leaking, it didn't border me, the thing is the leak makes rust, the rust was on whole bathroom wall. ok, you should say $4 for a single fan room, what do you expect, at least give me a ok bed, but not, the mattress was paper thin, i can feel every cracking bones of the bed(ya, they were cracking). the friendly staff didn't talk much to me because everyone think i am thai. and the gusethouse next door, may be better, but they loud music over all night, i can't sleep until mid night.

    Funky Guesthouse ”

Good places to hangout, helpful staff, cheap

Nice cheap little guesthouse with very helpful staff and a good travel agent attached. The rooms were clean although the bathrooms were quite cramped and the beds were very firm, but you get what you pay for. It's location is right on the Main Street in the old city but it's about a 10 minute walk to get to the other end where most of the good restaurants are. Had plenty of nice areas to hang out with other travellers.

    it's like The Beach”

    location, friendly staff

The rooms here remind me of the opening scene in the Beach. Tiny space, dull gray walls, barely wide enough to extend both arms out, audible amorous sounds from next door. Staff was very good about cleaning. My cave was tidied every day. Redeeming factor is location on Ratchadamnoen Rd, but watch out of Sunday, because you'll have to wade through the crowds to get to the entrance. Close by are 7-11, vegetarian restaurant, a few other restaurants, the main temple, an excellent coffee shop across the street (though twice as expensive as the onsite cafe). Very central, but it's too bad the single room is so so so small.
