Clean, comfortable, quiet, cheap, and has the best staff!”
We stayed here 3 days and will definitely go back there if we ever go back to Chiang Rai. The rooms are clean and well kept, with AC or fan, good mosquito nets everywhere, plenty of space and a balcony. Our mattress was hard but we slept very well. The location is not right in the center but a 60 baht tuk-tuk will take you there, or you can rent a bicycle or motorbike right in the guesthouse. We rented bicycles and enjoyed riding around! The neighbourhood and the street are quiet so you mainly just hear birds and see trees from your room which is nice. The reception area is very nice, with place to work, chill or eat something, free cofee, tea and water. The staff is super friendly and speaks good English. I was stupid enough to forget some important documents in my room and they were very helpful addressing the issue. Thank you!
Fantastic Guesthouse”
We had an amazing stay here and extended several days. The guesthouse is a little way out of the centre of Chiang Rai, but they are also aware of this and offer lots of information and help for booking taxis/tuktuks or bike hire. Great place, if you do hire a bike, as this place is much better value than the places in the centre. It is also only a half hour walk from the Blue Temple, which we found helpful. The room is bright, spacious and very clean. The Reception area is a comfortable place to sit. There is a water boiler and microwave available 7am-10pm along with free teas and coffees. They also have a selection of frozen/microwave meals, snacks and drinks for sale. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They send postcards home for us, and helped us book our slow boat up to Luang Prabang. Cannot recommend enough, if you don't mind being a little outside town.
Nice room but hard to get to”
I stayed here one night on my way through Chiang Rai to go to Laos. The room was great, one of the cleanest (but simple) rooms I have slept in to date at this price. Good room for the price. Fan was sufficient at this time of the year (late Jan). Staff spoke little English but were very friendly. The location is not the greatest; the street has few lights at night and is around a 20min walk from the bus station. The tuk tuk driver had trouble finding it, and it was not easily found on a map. We walked from the room to the bus station in the morning, and in the day light it was easy to find and navigate to the bus station. Overall I enjoyed my stay there, and despite its distance from the bus station, I would come and stay here again.
Great for the Price!”
We didn't know where in Chiang rai this hotel was when we booked it but it was cheap so the deal was sealed. It's a little bit a ways from most of the touristy things like the night bazaar, bus station, markets. Probably about a 20-30 minute walk. It's tucked back in a quiet neighborhood. There was free coffee and tea in the mornings which was nice. The room was big, comfy bed, and quiet floor fan. The only negative thing besides going on long walks to get anywhere, was the mosquitoes. We couldn't figure out how they were getting into our room, but we killed like at least 10 as soon as we got into our room and shut the door. It was madness. We extended our stay by a few nights. Chiang rai was a cool little city. We enjoyed it very much.
Most helpful and friendly staff in the world”
I stayed here for two nights, we had booked two rooms. Both were very clean. The outside area of the hotel is cozy and charming. You might want to rent a motorbike, for which the staff can help you. They arranged a good bike for us with a trustworthy company. The receptionist is very sweet. Finally, they were really nice to us to give us a free lift to the airport even though we wanted to pay for it. Fully recommended! I will always stay here when I come back to Chiang Rai.
Exceptional”
Really really good place I stayed in Thailand. The breakfast is very good with reasonable price. And they will help you to order food delivery for the lunch and dinner. We extended our staying again and again. Later we said the only reason we stayed in Chiang Rai for a week which is because of this GH.
Great place for a reasonable price”
BaanNukanong is a bit far from the city centre, but with a scooter it's easy to get around. Cleanliness was on point, staff were friendly and helpful. After I was bitten by a neighborhood dog they went out of their way to track down the owner and ask them pay a little towards my hospital bill. I would definitely stay here again when in Chiang Rai.
A bit far from center but in a quiet area”
+water, coffee and tea available +motorbike rental at good price, allowing you the independence to visit the city and around (white temple, black house, ...) +quiet area far from the center +good indications to reach the guesthouse walking +tuk tuk booking service -shower a bit weak -not really in the town center, but this is good if you are looking for a quiet area. around 20 min walking
Quiet stay in a quiet neighbourhood”
Staying at Baan Nukanong was relaxing, easy to sleep at night, and good value for money. The only drawback staying here if you can't ride a motorbike, is that it is a decent walk from the livelier centre of town (shopping, night bazaar)...count on taking at least 30 minutes to walk there There are okay noodle shops a good ten minute walk from the guesthouse. Tuk tuks are rarely sighted in the area, though you will see sawngthaews on the main road to the airport and to town, but how frequent they are is hard to tell. If hiring a motorbike at the guesthouse is not an option they may have bicycles but I could only see two. The guesthouse while basic is clean, has free Wi-Fi, and free tea and coffee in the mornings, and the resident pug dogs are cute and well behaved.
Best place I’ve stayed in Thailand ”
This place was a solid 9/10 Very clean, great service, great facilities, felt very secure. It is a 15-20 minute walk from the centre of Chiang Rai which is the only reason it’s not a 10.
Great Place for Budget Travel”
Although the guesthouse is bit far from your city centre, it is a perfect location for guests needing a quieter location travelling on a small budget. Rooms are clean and secure. Friendly staff and extremely helpful. No restaurants around if you arrive late at night. But the guesthouse has a fridge full of drinks and also offer instant noodles as a dinner alternative. Complimentary tea/coffee always available. Motor Bikes/bicycles are available for rent. I loved the customer service and would recommend this place to all.
When in Chiang Rai, I always stay here”
The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from downtown Chiang Rai. It is peaceful. Great wifi, TV & friendly staff. Hot water, tea or coffee available any time is a nice touch.
Basic hotel with friendly staff but bad location”
Like a comfortable small guesthouse, owner was very willing to have a chat with you about your plans in Chiang Rai, and give advice / render help with bookings. She even bought fruits for us to enjoy! However, it was very far from the main sights of Chiang Rai (approximately 10min cycling away). Located in a quiet housing area, there is a nearby shop with washing machine that offers cheaper laundry services.
Good place for best price.”
Quiet location, 20 minutes walking from city center, or 5 minutes by bike. Very friendly woman at reception with perfect english knowledge. Rooms clear and large, aircon useless in this place, so take fan room. WiFi works normally, but in evening sometimes lags (when everyone at home watching videos) :) i recommend this place for short time (up to one week) for month better to rent condo.
Good budget guesthouse 2 km from the city centre”
Good budget guesthouse approx. 2 km from the city centre. The room was not too small. It had a desk and a couple of chairs. There was a little balcony at the back where you could dry your clothes (it had a clothes rack). The bathroom is simple but clean. AC was good. You can buy snacks and some food at the reception. All in all - a good place to stay.
Exceptional”
Stayed here many times before. Service is friendly and good. Staff have been there a long time. Very inexpensive place. If you upgrade a little, you get much nicer room with bigger TV, table, bedlamps a/c and small fridge. Good walk from city center. Food available, snacks close by. Motorcycles available for rent. Good place to explore the area from
Does the job for the price we paid”
For the price we paid for the room it did the job. The rooms are very basic and clean enough. However, it is too far away from everything else and you must rent a bicycle or motorbike to get around the place which the staff can arrange for you. You can get free tea/coffee at reception as well as cold/hot water. The staff are very helpful though and was one of the positives of our stay. Also the two little pugs that greet you every morning are very cute. One major negative was the slaughter house. I read a few reviews here about it and we did not hear it until our last night (which is not really the guesthouse fault). When you leave the hostel you can turn left or right to the main road which leads into the town. Left is 5 minutes and right will take 20+ minutes. I will take the longer route any day over the shorter way as you can hear the pigs screeches. It was very disturbing which turned my trip to Chiang Rai a very bad one. But I must say that this is not the guesthouse fault but thought the reader should know about it.
More people should know about this guesthouse gem!”
We were very surprised by how few backpackers were at this guesthouse. We walked from the bus stop and it was not to far even with our backpacks. There is great food near by and the place was immaculately clean. There is a bathroom with a hot shower, a spacious bedroom and even a patio. Although it was a little difficult to find we went the wrong direction. We were able to follow signs that they posted everywhere. We stayed here on our way to the Lao border but would have stayed longer if time permitted.
Excellent”
Really nice guesthouse with nice rooms! It’s a bit far from the centre but they call a tuctuc for you if needed for free! Bread, coffee and tea is free in the morning, they also have more (butter, jam, milk, muesli) for a few baht. We only stayed one night. For more nights I would maybe choose a guesthoisr closer to the centre.
Exceptional”
Such a great guesthouse! Extended our stay by 2 nights. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Basic toast for free in mornings with free tea & coffee all day. Little store inside reception. Only downside was it's a bit far out of town but they rent scooters & bikes or a taxi/tuk tuk was only 100baht.
