Warmly recommended !”
We arrived here by chance, just following the Mekong, sunrise side. Then the building retained my attention, as the architecture is particular, modern and exotic, like a mix between oriental and occidental style, painted in clear colours, with the use of wood, a beautiful garden full of flowers in bloom. There was also plants on the balconies, all facing the Mekong. Round varnished tables in heavy wood, and comfortable woven armchairs. We came in for a visit, then the French manager (nicknamed Baba) warmly welcomed us. He speaks good English and perfectly Lao. We had the choice between two rooms : one on the ground floor, and one upstairs. Both were perfectly clean, luminous with large windows, bathroom, furnitures, and beautifully decorated. The room downstairs was more spacious, but we took the one on the second level for the panoramic view on the Mekong. Two glasses and a bottle of water on the table, clean towels, white sheets and toilet paper. The bed was excellent, and the pillows delighfully soft. Easy to attach, a large mosquito net was ready to install, and the water under pressure flew normally in the cleaned bathroom. We stayed there four nights, instead of two, because the place was so charming, peaceful and perfectly quiet for holidays. The staff, a Lao woman with her teen daughter were just adorable, helpful, attentive, and smiling. In the morning, we had breakfasts, and the food was tasty : French bread, real butter and quality fruit jam. The drinks were good also, black coffee and Lipton tea mith fresh milk. The guesthouse is well located, only 5 mins walk to the ferry boat, close to many restaurants, bars and shops, and still in a quiet area, surrounded by nature, between the Mekong river and the rice fields. Don Det was so lovely, there, maybe the best experience we had during our tour in Asia !
Sophisticated Oasis in Don Det”
Although pricier than its neighbors, Baba offers a great location, a friendly and always -helpful owner, and some of the best-kept rooms in Don Det. While the restaurant was closed this time due to it being low season, I remember from my previous stay there that it has the best coffee on the island. Essential place to stay for any non-budget traveler.
Great quality place to stay”
We loved our room at Baba's. Big, pretty clean (we did find some traces of spiderwebs on the window sills, well-furnished, very powerful A/C in addition to a strong fan. Handmade soap in the bathroom and a big bottle of water componentry with each day of your stay. The balcony is great to chill on with a view of the river. Food is overpriced and not filling, so pass on that. Owner is very courteous. Located just a hop, skip and jump away from the Don Det ferry port. Best choice on the island!
Lovely time ”
I had a lovely time at baba guesthouse. The room was amazing, super comfy and very clean; and the staff was very nice, we can feel they are happy to work there. There is an overall peaceful atmosphere at baba
Great! Far better than the others we walked past”
Don Det is a backpacker paradise, if that's not your cuppa, avoid the island entirely. That aside, Baba's was a good respite from it. Lovely room, huge bathroom, service was good.
A little pricey but very comfortable, very very clean, friendly ahd helpful staff. Would absolutely stay here again if in Don Det again.
Confort in Don Det”
We had a good time in Baba Guesthouse. The AC and wifi worked well, the rooms are big and clean and the owner takes good care of the customers. If you are looking for some confort it's a good place to stay although it's overplized compared to the other hotels you can find there.
A comfortable place in good position ”
This is close to the main drag in Don Det though quietly apart and set back. The rooms are comfortable with chairs and table and with good outside patios. The breakfast bar opposite is attractive and right on the river.
Great but a bit overpriced for the local market”
Great rooms and view. Good location. I found it a bit expensive compare to what you can find in Don Det. Overall though, a good guest house.
was clean, nice room ”
The room was clean, a/c was working well. Location was also okay... but.. I feel like the price is over priced :( Cause.. I saw other cheaper and nice hotels in Don det... If I go to Don Det again, will stay other hotels...
Good stay. Is pricey compared to most guesthouses in 4000 islands but you get a much better room which is clean and everything works! Convenient location when you have just gotten off ferry. Balcony is great on upper level rooms.
Just about OK”
This area of Don Det is full of backpackers guesthouses, and not really very nice or clean. We would have stayed in Don Khone if we had known. Baba guesthouse was ok, rooms were simple with balconies overlooking the mekong. We arrived early, and French owner mentioned check in was not before 12, he even charged us for hot water for our tea bags we had brought with us. They have a restaurant space in front of the hotel but only served limited breakfast, unused the rest of the day - seemed pointless. Steps up to the rooms are so high, you may want to stay downstairs. Not the best place on the island.
Best accomodation on the island”
The rooms are large, clean and have great views overlooking the river. The aircon is fantastic - we met lots of people who had booked bungalows but found the weather in May too hot and were scrambling to find alternative accommodations with A/C. Our only suggestion is that they invest in a water filter for people to fill up their bottles, rather than supply plastic 1.5 litres each day.
Awesome little spot to stay”
Good location to stay with great hosts. Nice breeze on the balcony and two fans in your room. One almost industrial size. Right where you want to stay on the sunrise side of the island a few minute walk to the sunset side of the island. Highly recommend.
Solid choice in Don Det ”
Close enough to the main pier but far enough away that it's not too noisy. Try and get a room on the 2nd floor to have a view of the Mekong. Room is spacious and spotless.
Quiet but next to everything ”
It was during low season so it was quiet but it has a great view of the river and close to bars and restaurant without hearing any noise. Room was spacious with nice furniture and a comfy bed. Balcony was nice for sitting out on and hot water In the bathroom. All in all a good stay
Don Det short break”
This guest house is very well situated within 500 meters of landing stage. In a great position right on the river and surrounded by restaurants. But Quiet and clean well appointed and everything works. Would recommend and certainly stay again.
Great place and would stay there again ”
All good at this place. No cons. Food location rooms all very good. Staff were great
enjoyed our stay, nothing to complain about.”
Big bottle of water every day everything was as expected building works opposite room but didn't disturb much great views from room didn't try food here, so many options nearby
Great place, very helpful staff, good location. The owner went out of his way to help us during our Stay
