Great Location and Clean Place”
Backpackers Hotel Toyo, I booked a twin room and is happy with my stay. I'd love to come back again for my next visit to Osaka. Its clean, convenient, affordable and friendly. There is huge Supermarket, Shopping Mall and Street food within walking distant. Transportation from Kansai International Airport by railway, you can choose either 1) Nankai to Shin-Imamiya (920yen) then 10mins walking distance to Hotel Toyo or 2) JR to Shin-imamiya (1,060yen) (exit to the East Gate) then 5mins walking distance to Hotel Toyo. Just 2mins walk to Dobutsuen-Mae (Subway) from Hotel Toyo and you can buy a day pass (600-800yen) for all subway and bus unlimited ride for a day. (Note: Nankai and JR line are not subway)

Clean, cheap, and friendly!”
I normally don't take the time out to write reviews, but I was very pleased with my stay at Hotel Toyo. I arrived on a Monday, and checkin was very quick. The rooms are very small but the sheets were clean and that's all that matters to me. Bathrooms are shared, and the showers are shared but they have individual stalls! Free shampoo and body wash as well. Showers are open 24h unlike many other similarly, priced hotels I looked at. There is a lounge room that has computers in it for guests to use, and also a TV with various game consoles hooked up. The lounge room felt a little dirty, but I think that's to be expected when you have all kinds of people traveling through here. There is a microwave and a hot water boiler for guests to use, as well as a water purifier. The hotel's Wi,Fi reached into my room, and was extremely fast! A lot faster than I got at three or four star hotels. The staff were extremely nice, and spoke quite good English. They also took a personal interest in me, which is something that you don't get in a lot of hotels these days. Overall, I was very pleased with this hotel, and will be going back there the next time I visit Osaka.

Highly recommended!”
I will definitely come back to Osaka and of course stay at Backpackers Hotel Toyo again! Friendly staff, hotel and room very clean and eventhough the shower room is separated from our room, the privacy is superb! I feel secure and would recommend all friends and family to stay here. Thanks to all Backpackers Hotel Toyo staff! Daisukidesuu

Amazing experience in Kansai”
Hotel Toyo is only about 5 minutes from Shin-Imamiya Station (JR line) and Dōbutsuen-mae Station (Subways: Midosuji and Sakaisuji Line). Just follow the map. The hotel manager who was nice, accommodating, and very helpful; fluent in English and knows a little Filipino, escorted us to our room located on the ground level which we liked since readily accessible to the toilet, coined laundry/wash room, shower room (3 showers shared by everyone but often available), and common room. All of which are cleansed daily. Our room is clean and just suitable for me and my mom. It has twin beds but hard pillows (I had to stack and use my own towel instead), a split-type air condition/heater, small refrigerator, 14" TV which only has Japanese channels, and a built-in cabinet. Slippers are also provided. Hot and Drinking water are available near the entrance and in the common room. Anyone may cook, eat, sleep, relax, play, and mingle with other guests in the common room. Plenty of travel information, and maps are posted and available around the hotel. Almost all staffs are fluent in English and give guidelines. Entrance door is locked after 1am but password is provided to their guests. Hotel Toyo may be a budget hotel but our necessities were met. Japanese people in general were really nice and helpful especially with directions. Although most can’t communicate in English, they find ways to make you understand their statements. We truly had an amazing experience in Osaka, had a blast so we’ll surely go back.

Very comfortable hotel, and friendly staff!”
Hotel Toyo was a great place to stay on my backpacking budget. The staff was friendly, and the Japanese style room was comfortable. The sleeping pad provided was thick, and provided plenty of cushion for my western standards. I ended up arriving at the hotel after 2:00 AM due to delayed flights, etc., and the staff was so helpful and willing to check me in even at that hour (check in closes at 10:00 PM). I am so happy I chose hotel Toyo in Osaka!

Best Backpackers Hotel in Town!!!”
Even what they provided are very basic... I would still consider Hotel TOYO one of the best backpackers hotel in town. Don't think about the area located in the homeless area... it is basically very safe as I have experienced. The bonus point is the location which is only a few steps walking to the subway & just across the road is the JR Line definitely makes your travel so much easier. Even if the hotel don't provide meals ( Only free coffee & tea in the common room in the morning until 11.00am ) there are so many nearby eating places or you can get your rations from Donquijote or Temako supermarkets which local Osakian would buy their groceries... they even have discounted food products later in the evening to finish off the food products... which is really awesome!!! The front desk staffs speak fluent English... you can really ask for anything either sightseeings places or things that you need to buy etc. I would definitely recommend this hotel & I would stay there if I come back.

worth it”
Its easy to reach toyo, the location is in the middle of JR station and subway station. If you get bored, you can also go to daiso and donQ which are only 5mins walk from toyo. Nice thing here you get affordable price for a private room. My room was really clean and compact. Really lovely for 4 nights stay. They also had laundry machine which is cheaper than any other hostel (washing, detergent = 1.50yen, drying machine = 1yen). You'll get your stuffs really dry and ready to wear again! Lovely. The shower room is only on the 1st floor, I dont mind tho since they had very perfumed shower gel, conditioner, shampoo. The staffs also very friendly. I'd recommend and will stay here again if I visit Osaka.

Small and old but comfortable and homey”
The amenities of rooms in Toyo are very basic, but my stay was comfortable. For the price I paid, I would not complain much on the flaws of the hotel. I suggest you only book rooms with A/C especially during winter and summer. Also, I heard complains from other backpackers about their rooms without A/C being musty. There is Wi-fi in the rooms which is very convenient. Bathrooms and shower rooms are shared, and there is also a washroom with sink and laundry machine. Tip: If you are on the lower floors, I suggest you only use the bathroom and shower room located at the first floor. Just trust me. As for the problem of queue, I actually did not encounter much competition in showering. I guess you just have to find a good timing. Also it was my first time to experience shared bathrooms and showers and I was glad there was no bad experience or anything. The common room has couches, tv, gaming devices, computers, kitchen, fridge. The wall is covered with traveler's doodles which I find endearing. Brochures and info sheets peppered the wall which is helpful in getting ideas which places in Osaka to visit. Staff are very attentive and helpful. The hotel has no stairs but the staff carried my bag to my room and did not want to accept any tip. There is a vendo machine inside the hotel. They lend you umbrellas for free when there is rain or snow, and they also have bikes for rent. Cheap prices. The hotel is near major attractions such as Spa World (must try). Local subway and JR line are also near, about 2-3 minutes walk. Also, most of the guests in Toyo are fellow foreigners and backpackers so it was cool. I heard that in other hotels/hostels in the area, the majority of guests are locals. Not that it's bad, but having fellow solo/group travelers around can be fun. In summary, it felt like I was just in a friend's house attending a slumber party.

good location, worthy of value, kind staff and separated space”
Would highly recommand this hotel as a worthy choice for single backpacker seeking for quiet separated room. This hotel is just 1 mins away from the Zoo Station or JR 新金宫 Station with a lot of local 居酒屋 around and family mart within foot reach. Despite of poor and old environment and shared bathroom and toilet, at least you could enjoy an individual room with fan and TV and not being disturbed or spied upon by other guests. The most impressive stuff is the price——with only no more than 30 USD for 2 nights in a fan room is quite fantastic in OSAKA——though there is a lot of similar hotel nearby in this area. All in all, highly recommand this hotel or this area in OSAKA.

Low price yet very convenient stay”
I didn't expect my short stay in Osaka would have been that fun and memorable! One that has contributed a lot is this hotel because of its friendly staff, its location which is a few minutes away from train stations, and the meeting of various people ending up as friends. I would definitely stay again in this place when I get to visit Osaka. Thank you HOTEL TOYO! =)

One of my favorite hotels in the world”
Your own room, with such high standards of cleanliness and efficiency, for this price - in a rich, developed-world city ? I'm becoming a regular guest in this hotel, using it as a base to explore Kyoto and other neighboring cities, or as a place to recover from jet lag before heading off to other parts of Japan. There are numerous similar hotels in this neighborhood, but I suspect Toyo offers the highest quality - like wifi in your room, excellent bathrooms and spacious shower stalls. The staff are SO FRIENDLY and HELPFUL, too.

Incredible Place To Stay!”
From the moment we arrived at Hotel Toyo we were greeted warmly by the staff. The rooms are very affordable, clean and kept in good condition for a well worn hostel. The bathrooms were cleaned constantly are shared, but doesn't feel that way, shower rooms had super hot water which was convenient during cold weather months. The best part about this place was the staff! I can't say enough how kind and helpful they were, It was also a very easy place to make friends, they have a nice little hang out/common room complete with a kitchen and you will most likely meet other travelers with interesting stories there. Th internet connection is lightning fast, coffee and water is free every morning and throughout the day. The Dobotsuenmae Subway Line is just a few steps away as well. I highly recommend staying here.

Best place for budget traveller”
Any time I visit Osaka, I stay in Hotel Toyo. There is no any other place which I can book on the same rate. Although hotel toyo offers a great price, staffs are very kind and the room is also clean. Great place for budget traveller.

Good location and excellent price”
Hotel Toyo is very conveniently located and I slept very comfortably and well there. Some people will not like the tatami floor + thin futon combo, but it was lovely for me. The common area is nice and the free wi-fi everywhere is great. The showers are a little complicated because there's only one room on the ground floor with two stalls. Two men can use it at the same time, but the standard procedure is that a woman can lock the door for safety and privacy. On the bright side, shampoo, conditioner, and soap are provided. Upstairs, the hallways are a little shabby and the floors are chipped and inside the rooms, the walls are similarly distressed. There's a smell of aggressive cleaner in the air, but to be honest, I never felt gross or grimy. For the price and location, I'd stay there again.

I'll definitely recommend this to my friends!”
it's my first time doing solo travel in Japan so I'm on a tight budget but the same time prioritizing my security was on my checklist in choosing a hotel during my stay. Hotel Toyo offers that. The location is also very convenient, just a 2min walking distance from Dobutsuen-Mae Station, which is 2 stations away from Namba Station (where Dotonbori is located) and 7 stations away from Umeda Station (where Umeda Sky Building and HEP Five is located). The Shinsekai is also a 10min walk away from the hotel, there is also a Daiso and Don Quixote stores nearby. And Family Mart is everywhere!

Welcome Home”
Greetings. Hotel Toyo is awesome and feels like home. Their staff are very friendly and helpful. The room is clean and simple. It is located close to subway and JR station. Nearby, there are many restaurants and supermarkets. I had a great time and enjoyed my stay at Hotel Toyo.

Impressive!”
Toyo Hostel is a very old building (probably a former company dormitory) that was reformed and painted, Have very cool things like a 24 hour shower booths, a recreational room with few retro gaming and a 24 hour reception. Those 3 aspects are very rare to see in any other place not only inside Japan but overseas. The price is not bad, less than 2.000 yen per night inside a individual 6 sized tatami room with futon. The toilets are big and with brand new washlet included. The building is near to the entrance of Shin Sekai and only 20 minute walk to DenDen Town. Near to the Shinsekai entrance there are a 24 hour Don Quijote store. For the budget, I think will be hard find better. The individual room is more than enough just for sleep. My only "complain" was the full packed refrigerator that the other guests uses, 2 refrigerators definitely are NOT enough. Too many people for a such limited space. Besides that, no major problems to be reported. I recommend.

Recommend! ”
There's a station basically RIGHT outside Hotel Toyo on the main street. SUPER close to convenience stores, and better yet, a MEGA Don Quijote. The staff were really nice and super accommodating, especially the gentleman who always wears this hat. There's no elevator and I was on the fourth floor, so he basically ran up the four floors while carrying my 20kg suitcase without knocking/smashing it on the stairs, so that was amazing. Common room is cool and females have their own shower room. The people who stayed there at the time were nice too. Shout out to Frank! :) Definitely would recommend, only downside I can think of is that my pillow and mattress were thinner than a pancake, but minor details.

The backpackers Toyo is an amazing place to stay”
The backpackers Toyo is an amazing place to stay at. The staff is very nice and very helpful and you can meet a lot of different people, some live in the guesthouse for their stay in Japan, without a doubt an excellent place to be. Cons - room is a little small - it is in the "bad" neighborhood Pros -the "bad neighborhood is cleaner then most of the places I know - very cheap (compared to Japan) - very nice staff that help you whenever they can - located near a subway station so all the area is easily accessible - common room with a kitchen computers and PlayStation+Nintendo, a great way to hangout with people. So this is an excellent place, very recommended!

Very Comfortable”
Having come from a visit to a hostel with moldy floors in the bathroom and flimsy shower doors, Hotel Toyo was a world of difference. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was kind and generously helpful. The showers were actual individual rooms that locked with a separate shower and dressing area for each. It was so much nicer than many of the other places I've stayed. The hostel is also very close to both the subway and the train. I enjoyed my stay there very much!
