Brilliant position and almost everything you need”
Yes, it's primarily a backpacker hostel, but it also caters to ordinary budget travellers with a range of private double and twin rooms. Once upon a time this would have been a wonderfully appointed old world charm inner city hotel. They are spending a lot of money on it (recently been reroofed and all bathrooms upgraded). All rooms have share facilities but there are multiple bathrooms on all three levels and they are newly renovated and spotless. The commercial kitchen on level two is huge with all the facilities you need (Woolworths supermarket about two minutes walk away) and there are two rambling large community areas (books, pool table, etc) on level one and level two. Be warned though, if you find stairs a bit of a challenge, make sure you request a room on the first level. The staircases are big as the ceilings in this wonderful old hotel are enormous. We will definitely stay here again as the position smack bang in the middle of the city cannot be beaten!
Perfect location but dark corridor”
The location is perfect. It located just at the center of city. Skybus pick up and drop off station just nearby. Cons is the corridor is dark. There is no light turn on during night. Only an emergency exit light is light on which is pretty dangerous as the floor of the corridor is uneven.
Booked for two nights Friday 25th and Saturday 26th Jan. unfortunately due to the Bush fires our bus from lake st Clair to Hobart was cancelled. When we asked for a refund the business stated that their cancellation policy was 48hr notice. I stated to the lady that I didn’t want to cancel the booking but amend it for one night instead of two and I requested a refund as the Bush fires meant we had to pay additional accomodation costs to stay where were were for another night. The answer was still no- I found this unreasonable. Upon arrival to the property on the Saturday I found the rooms very underwhelming for the price we had paid, with the property requesting further $ for item such as towels. The rooms are not as depicted in the photos. Agoda kindly gave us vouchers for the cost of the first night and we ended up using them to stay else where.
Satisfactory hostel but some improvements needed”
This hostel provides a good solid basic hostel facilities but it lacks attention to detail and care. They are current investing in refurb so it may be great after but there were wires sowing in the wall of the newly refurbed bathroom and the kitchen was closed early Sunday AM when it should have been open so I couldn’t get my breakfast before going in a trip and also had to leave my lunch behind that is pre made so I had to them incur the expense of the both breakfast and lunch out on an organised day trip. The kitchen needs to be open earlier fir people who are doing trips as most pick ups go from 7-8am. The lounge is great and kitchen has sufficient facilities to cook and store food and is a nice place to sit and eat. The new bathroom shower are is great.
I booked 2 nights but was disappointed because there was an emergency, the fire alarm rang around 6am and all of us had to go down. I was afraid at that time so I decided to moved out and checked out as early as 8am.
Here has kind staff and It's closed from the facilities and stores.
Kitchen is closed from 9pm till 6am. This is unacceptable especially when your food is locked away.”
Cant even make a cup of tea or coffee as everything is locked away so you can't even get access to hot water. Other than showers
Not good value for money”
For a single room for $83, give a towel, have flyscreen in the window. Just because you’re a hostel for $81 should compete in the market. You are no where near it! I couldn’t get out quick enough! Absolutely hated it!
[WARNING] DO NOT BOOK IT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY”
I checked in for around 15 mins then decided to find a new hotel. I cannot emphasize enough how terrible this place is. I don't know how much they paid Agoda "behind the scenes" to have the "bestseller" tag at the time I made the booking. The only good thing is its location. All other things are so awful. Very dirty, dark, old, noisy and the worst is I could not ask for a refund after booking this. Really want to give them -5 if I could. Again, stay away from this place at all cost.
This is a typical backpackers but you expect a bit more for $100 per night.
Good for the price. Nice staff and an overall pleasant stay.
Nice hostel in general
There is no facilities in the bedroom. We didn’t find linen on the bed, we had to seek for linen around the property as the receptionist didn’t tell anything about linen. Property too old. Too many bathrooms out of order. Any foot noise can be heard. I woke 5am because foot noise on the level above. Only the location and price were good. Would not recommend.
Location is central so it's very convenient to go anywhere, eg grocery shopping, exploring central Hobart, taking buses to other places or other parts of Tasmania, etc. Reception area is located one level up from the street level. There are no lifts to the reception area or to the rooms so travelers with big or heavy luggage have to bear this in mind. There's a huge kitchen plus lounge area so it's convenient for travelers who would like to prepare their own food. There's also fridge and storage area in the kitchen area but do label your food. Overall this is a good location for travelers who like convenience, and just a place to sleep for the night.
Quite and clean”
Good location in the center of Hobart basic backpacks but clean and comfortable.
Humiliated by staff, go somewhere else”
I was assigned a bunk bed bedroom, which did not correspond to the booking description, the female receptionist did so because she thought, in her own words, that I was trying to scorn her getting a better rate online rather than booking through the reception, so she gave me an upper bunk bed and said for the price that is was I was getting, ignoring the description at Agoda website. When I complained about the locker, the asian male employee was extremely rude, he thought I was lying about the locker to find a reason to change room and said he couldn't do anything, I said to him that it is not the way to an answer, and he said he didn't care, and told me to leave the reception. The manager, an asian woman was on the staff side, she neglected my reasons for the quarrel with the employee, the female receptionist even lied saying I was rude to her, and they all decided to expel me from the hotel, assuming an intimidating attitude with the help of a french employee, and ignoring my plea to forget about it and let me stay, because I liked the location near the centre and the accesible price. Avoid this place, there are more comfortable hotels in Hobart, with bathroom in the room, unlike the crowded bathrooms at the Imperial hotel, less people in the room, and offer discount for longer stays, as I confirmed.
My friend and I had a nice stay here. We shared a mixed 8 person dorm. Free wifi (not the best), communal lounge/TV area, lockers, recently renovated room - clean. Only downside is no aircon. Street outside was a bit noisy at night, clock ringing all the time. Bathrooms didn't have hand soap??? Other than that a pleasant stay for one night.
it is a hostel not a hotel”
I stayed two nights there. Room condition is acceptable in terms of pricing. Bed is comfortable. One night, bathroom motion-sensing lighting was out of order and hot water supply was little, gave me a unforgettable bath experience.
Good value for money and clean condition”
I took a single room as I was heading for my Point to Pinnacle torture. The bed was comfortable, and clean. The location is convenient close to amnesties and not far stroll from sight seeing and Hobart attractions. The only issue is with noise around the building, its antique, so you would feel most steps. I personally dont mind that.
Lit he. Facilities good and nice loung area
