Amazing Service”
I arrived at Bagan Thande after having disliked the original hotel I booked. Bagan Thande was much over my backpacker budget, but the pictures looked beautiful, it included a breakfast and had free wifi. When I arrived the staff was friendly and brought me a cold glass of tamarind juice. Everyone was smiling and made you feel at home. When I was taken to my room I was a bit dissapointed with the interior, as reviews mention the cheaper rooms are a bit dated with wood paneling on the inside. However the rooms are clean. The AC took a couple hours to cool down the room, but after those initial couple hours on the first day the AC always worked perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful even during my moments of frustration at first with the AC. The breakfast buffet is very good and has a lot of variety. The salads are also very delicious and I was addicted to the Thande Sunset smoothie which I ordered several a day. The grounds of the hotel were impeccable, flowers all around, birds chirping a beautiful river view, it was a little piece of heaven. I would definitely stay here again but next time I would splurge even more and get a room with a river view. I can't say enough about the wonderful staff, they make your stay a pleasure. My only real complaint was the pool was under renovation, but the staff escort you to the neighboring pool that you can use, so even that they have covered. Great place, great people, great food.
Great location, great staff”
Had a superb time here in Thande Hotel. The staff were really very friendly and helpful; sitting down to show us good spots to visit in the area, giving us towels to shower even after checking out. The breakfast buffet was very decent too. Location-wise, it's the best choice to stay in Old Bagan area, as compared to New Bagan and Nyuang-U. It's proximity to the different sunrise/sunset spots makes this very attractive. There's a 8000kyat/day ebike rental just outside the hotel, which is the best mode of transport to explore Bagan. The only downside was the insects in the hotel. Some will enter / already present in the room. They were also very common in the breakfast area. Other than that, I highly recommend Thande Hotel. Location is unbeatable.
Great location, great view with lots of wild animals”
The hotel is located in the center of Old Bagan. It is just behind the Archeological Museum and surrounded by many famous pagodas. You just walk or hire an ebike to visit all pagodas. The hotel dinning area is very beautiful early morning and even more beautiful during the sunset. If you stay in the hotel for 2 nights, you should save 1 day for watching the sunset there, seeing the sun going down to the river and dissappear from the horizon. The hotel is nearly 100 years old and has beautiful and huge trees which house lots of birds and squirrels Hotel staffs are very helpful. They allowed us to check out late with small extra payment of US$ 2/hour until 4 p. m. We moved to the hotel lobby area and then to the Bar/Restaurant for drinks/early dinner before being picked up by the JJExpress Bus at 6.30 p.m. for the 8p. m. bus back to Yangon. Overall, we (the 2 friends I met on the bus, who also stayed at the hotel and I) got a wonderful experience at Bagan Thande Hotel.
Just beautiful ”
Our stay at Bagan Thande Hotel was very very nice, the hotel is absolutely beautiful with massive trees in grounds, rooms are very spacious, but could do with more lighting, restaurant area is picture perfect, right on the river, pool area is nice with adequate lounges, we hired an e-bike for 3 hours and it cost 7,500kyats which we thought was reasonable and a lot of fun, touring around the pagodas. Must mention thiugh everyone entering Bagan have to pay 25,000kyats at the airport. The hotel staff are very helpful and some of them speak very good English making it easy to communicate. We would definitely recommend Bagan Thande Hotel if your going to Bagan.
Great place to stay”
All the staff were very accommodating. We were allowed to check-in earlier because the room was already available and because I believed they knew that it was my birthday. And indeed they knew, there were flowers on our bed that says 'happy birthday'. Then a surprise bithday cake in the evening and the staff happily sang the birthday song with my husband. Our cute little cottage was overlooking the Irrawady river. The place was very quiet and peaceful if you really want to relax. The old acacia trees serve as canopies. I love the fact that they were able to maintain the 'old' look of the place. Food was okay. There could have been variety for their breakfast buffet. Special thanks to Mr Zaw who attended to almost all our needs. Thank you Bagan Thande Hotel. I and my husband had a great time. We will surely choose you again once we visit Bagan.
Great E-Bike Service and Easy to Find”
I was able to wander the paved and dust roads of Old Bagan thanks to a reliable e-bike provided to me by Bagan Thande Hotel. There were plentiful e-bikes for many guests to use and they came at a reasonable price. They were easy to use, even if you have never drove an electric/gasoline powered bike. It was easy to remember where Bagan Thande Hotel was after riding on an e-bike for a while as it was conveniently located in its own corner, though close to many interesting temples and pagodas. The rooms were alright and the staff service was great. They spoke English good enough to teach me how to use an e-bike and the breakfast was cooked well. Rooms were cleaned, but insects came crawling inside. The staff was nice and friendly always greeting you, however, I was disappointed that I had to wait a long time for a check in as my flight arrived at 8 am and check in was six hours later. The flights into Bagan arrive very early in the morning, even though they are all different airlines. The timing that the tourists arrive and depart Bagan is at this similar time everday. They should schedule it in accordance with this in mind. Luckily, I was able to explore riding the e-bike provided.
Excellent hotel, superb surroundings”
This was the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our Myanmar travel about, in late November, early December, but it was worth it to us. We chose the most expensive rooms as well, with a river view, facing spectacular sunsets. Staff were very friendly and even if their English was hesitant, they tried their best to look after guests. Could not ask for better service. The hotel is located in the Old Bagan pagoda park, next to the museum. Food service, particularly buffet breakfast, were very welcome after our more adventurous tastings around Myanmar at Inle/Inlay, Mandalay and Yangon. Compared to other SE Asian countries (esp Thailand and Vietnam), Myanmar is not a foodie place. There are regional specialities such as the ferocious Rakhine dishes and the flavoursome Shan noodles. Order "medium" heat for safety, but also the oil based chili and garlic side sauce to pump up the spice of required. River prawns and fish seem to be overcooked wherever we found them. As the guidebooks say, the Bagan Thande is for the splurge.
Wonderful oasis with easy access to Bagan temples”
Thande hotel is a blissful oasis in Bagan. Set in lush gardens, with better rooms and restaurant/ bar area overlooking the river. Bungalow-style rooms are well maintained and cosy and have private decks with garden views. Hotel restaurant is suprisingly good. The location gives you great access to Bagan temples. Staff was very helpful and flexible, for example they checked us in very early. There was only one little issue: we received rental e-bikes which were not fully charged and unfortunately did not last for the half-day we wanted, so before renting make sure they are 100% charged. However, this is to be stressed that "rescue team" with new bikes came quickly (the fact we were not far from the hotel helped a bit). Overall wonderful experience and hotel standard far above what price tag would suggest.
Kind staff and great facilities”
We arrived very early in the morning, harrowed by a sleepness night on a bus from Yangon. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff at Bagan Thande were very accommodating, allowing us to check in early so we could get a nap in before exploring Bagan. They were equally friendly and helpful when we had problems with our e-bike towards the end of a day of exploring. Though I'm sure there are plenty of nice hotels in Bagan, the lovely pool, large leafy restaurant overlooking the Irrawaddy, and friendly staff at Bagan Thande made our stay extremely pleasant. For people that intend to spend the middle of the day ducking back to their hotel to recharge from temple hopping, this is a great place to hang out.
Good location and nice breakfast setting”
we are a group of 8 people, using 3 superior rooms and 1 economy room. Though the economy room is smaller than the superior room, it is quite comfortable. If give me the choice to stay there or stay in low budgeted hotel in Naung U with the same price, I would chose the economy room of Bagan Thande. A big plus point is strong wifi. Heard a lot of bad reputation of Burmese Wifi, we did not have the feeling we were in Myanmar with wifi reaching to every room and no problem with photo upload :)). The breakfast lounge is very nice and comfortable with very beautiful view. The location is very good, in the middle of New Bagan and Naung U. If you travel with elders, this resort is highly recommended cos it is very convenient to come back the hotel for a lunch nap.
Memorable Stay”
Stayed for 2 nights in a Deluxe Garden View Room and got the rooms facing the pool which we had earlier requested. Hotel is a bit pricy but the facilities make-up for it. 1.Location - located inside Old Bagan and no nearby places to eat but it was alright for us as we stayed out for the most part of the day and already had our dinner when we returned at night. Most of the restaurants are located in Nyaung-U or in New Bagan so you may need to hire a taxi to go around. We also used the ebikes from the hotel and went all the way to new Bagan. Since it is located in Old Bagan, there are quite many temples nearby which can be visited by walking or cycling. 2.Facilities - the place is quite picturesque, wooden cottages, nice gardens, the view from the restaurant is nice and relaxing. Swimming pool is averaged sized but good enough. They also have a spa with shower facilities which they let us use after we had checked-out and ventured around some-more while waiting for our ride to send us to the bus station for our night-trip to Inle. 3. Food - buffet breakfast is ample and satisfying. We dined here one night and though pricy (typical for a hotel), the food was delicious and the serving was more than enough to fill-us up. Plus free entertainment at night with their puppet show which is quite interesting.
Made me felt at home!”
Mingalaba! Bagan is one of those places that is truly unspoiled, and to find a hotel like that of Bagan Thande was truly special. Bagan Thande has combined the charms of unspoiled Bagan with comfort of luxury in a perfect way that I wasn't able to find in other places. The price is very good for a resort of this caliber in Myanmar, and the staff tries very hard to to make your stay comfortable. I came back one day and found Mingalaba! spelled out on my bed, how special is that!
An institution and a great location”
It’s 12 years since we last stayed at Bagan Thande, so it is an institution for us, close to a heritage resort with its bungalow style rooms with gardens in between, the marvelous view from the riverfront restaurant under the enormous acacia tree as well as the panorama bar for great riverview sunsets. The pool area is, as before, very nice, and you can just see the top of Gaw Daw Parlin, one of the main temples. Unfortunately the pool bar is not in use other than for collecting towels. A tip for management is to remove the pool bar and instead expand the area for sun chairs under the acacia tree. An upgrade of the sun chairs would also be appreciated. The current ones are very heavy and can’t really be moved to sun/shade as guests wish. The location is of course a key reson for choosing this hotel. Right in the arceological zone with walking distance to some of the main temples and easy access with bicycle, e-scooter, tuktuk or car for all temples. The rooms are quite large with rustic wooden materials including wood paneled walls. Bathrooms are large and with old style large taps and green tiles. It breathes something from a lost era. Beds are fine, quite soft and not as hard as elsewhere in Myanmar, and one of the pillows is quite soft. Two water bottles, coffee/tea and bathroom amenities are included. The front porch is great to relax at in the early evening when it cools off. They have and are carefully renovating the hotel piece by piece and it is in much better condition now than our last time 12 years ago. Keep up the good work! Breakfast is served from 6 AM which is good for those who need to go early temple hopping. Though, before 6:30 don’t count on all the breakfast items to be available. The same restaurant is for lunch and dinner. Service is good. efficient and friendly. Front desk check in/out, booking tours/transport and booking e-scooters is good and efficient. For the e-scooters they charge 4-7 KKyat (3-4.5 USD) per half-whole day. If you wa
Beautiful environment in the hear of Old Bagan”
We had a fantastic time in the Bagan Thande Hotel. It was a few minutes drive from the airport which was easily arranged through the hotel for $10. The grounds are beautiful. The restaurant has a large garden area for sitting which is right on the river. It is west facing too so we had some lovely sunset views. There are these huge trees everywhere which are stunning but also provide nice shade to the many sitting out areas. The location is perfect. We hired bikes one day and it is just a few minutes ride to many of the temples. There is a cool restaurant area nearby too. Look up restaurant like "Be kind to animals to the moon". There was a really nice swimming pool but unfortunately it was freezing. We had to dare each other to get in. Apart from that it was a lovely stay. Great staff and location and beautiful grounds.
The Best Hotel in Bagan!!”
My friends and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Although this hotel is 3 star hotel, everything is above 4 star! What we loved about this hotel is that it feels so real (e.g. the staff friendliness, atmosphere, facilities, etc...) unlike those luxury hotels that feel pretentious in some ways. Location: The location was amazing. You can see the sun set right by the restaurant in the hotel and the view and the atmosphere are so peaceful. Initially, we were thinking about staying in New Bagan or Nyaung U, but as we cycled around the town and realized that there are not many pagodas to look around. It is best to stay in Old Bagan if you want to feel the history. Food: They provided us free dinner vouchers since we stayed for 4 nights. Although it was a free voucher, it was full course dinner and the taste was amazing! The breakfast was also tasty and all the stuff was very attentive to serve you. Facilities/Cleanliness: We were worried that we wouldn't get enough hot water or weak water pressure, but there was nothing to worry about such! And the room is very clean! If anyone is thinking about going to Bagan, this is the must-stay hotel!!
Perfect location, a lot of construction noise though”
We are really glad we stayed in Thande. Mainly because the location in Old Bagan was so perfect - lots of amazing temples in close walking distance and ebike rental right outside the driveway. Definitely think the decision to stay in Old Bagan was worth it. The staff were absolutely lovely and in particular one woman who seemed like maybe she was the manager went out of her way to phone people she knew to help us with our travel plans, and one security guy (sorry I can't remember names!) always rushed out with our room key every time he saw us approach - we didn't have to walk the extra 10 steps into reception to collect it. The restaurant on the river has a lovely view and there's also a couple of grassed areas with seats and swings for people to watch the river. The pool attendant was the only person who let the place down - didn't care we needed towels or the umbrella moved to provide shade. A lot of construction going on so if you stay in a cheaper room this may bother you.
Quiet and peaceful with river view”
A very relaxing haven from the dusty roads of Bagan, friendly staff who spoke good English and always greeted you. The bar and restaurant and spa staff are excellent. Bagan Thande Hotel was over our usual budget for hotels but it was worth spending more to stay in this nice hotel with pool. The river view room of the Ayeyarwaddy river was lovely but garden view rooms are also nice and you get good views of the river from the bar and restaurant.
Exceptional”
Very strategic location in Old Bagan. Talk to the receptionist/bell boy and you could hire either an e-bike, tuk-tuk (with a driver), Private car (with a driver) or horse carriage for a day (or two) with very reasonable price. I hired a tuk-tuk with a driver and he was able to recommend and bring me to places (I did not research much about Bagan initially) which were deemed as must-see based on my duration in Bagan and also shared some stories about the temples and lifestyles in Bagan. The room itself was big and pretty, more like a house instead of a hotel. Everything is well in order, though, if I closed all the curtains, my room will have no connection/WiFi connectivity at all - but that’s ok. The restaurant has some performances at night, and a beautiful view of the Ayeyarwady River during breakfast.
A lovely place”
The Bagan Thande hotel is a little outdated in terms of facilities, but this is more than compensated by the excellent location on the river, the lovely staff, the dining and breakfast facilities under the acacia tree and the quality of the food served. If you can afford it, go for the rooms right on the river, they are much more spacious than the superior ones and have an old fashioned charm. Enjoy the superb sunsets.
An amazing hotel”
What a fantastic hotel. The location was very ideal for sightseeing as it was closeby to the museum and temples in the Old Bagan area. The layout of the hotel was impressive and gave a sense of tranquility. We stayed at the river view room which had breathtaking views of the sunset overlooking the Irrawady river. Breakfast was a decent one, the buffet offering a wide variety. Dinner was a great experience as the hotel provided entertainment in the form of live music and puppet shows. The service and amenities provided were top notch having experienced the spa and the hotel also offered various modes of transport to navigate around Bagan. The rooms were well designed and equipped with modern facilities. If there was one minor complaint it would be the unstable WiFi connection. However, you are in Bagan and really shouldn't be spending too much time on the internet!
