I had asked for a bus to go to Mandalay, left with other tourists, we found ourselves loading poor people along the way, in a number higher than the seats available also. the hotel should ask the bus company for clarification
location is really nice”
It is along the river bank with perfect river view and the environment is perfect. 2 big Pagodas are just outside of the hotel. Near all the famous Pagodas. About 10 minutes by motorbike (e bike) to go to the small hill to see the sunset.
Excellent location. Great sunsets on the river front. Some pagodas walking distance from hotel The rooms are spacious but need to be upgraded.... Some plug points loose and lighting not enough. Among all the staff Zaw Htet Aung stood out. Warm and friendly going the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. The entertainment (puppet show and traditional music) in the evenings is a good touch. The staff at the spa are very unfriendly and unwelcoming.
Average room but wonderful view”
We are not very satisfied with the room as it is a little bit small and low water flow of the bathroom. However, due to nice location in old Bagan, we don't have get up early to see sunrise. Also the restaurant is amazingly beautiful; it is near the river with a giant tree stretching above so overall I still recommend people this hotel if you come and visit Bagan.
Very strategic location in Old Bagan. Talk to the receptionist/bell boy and you could hire either an e-bike, tuk-tuk (with a driver), Private car (with a driver) or horse carriage for a day (or two) with very reasonable price. I hired a tuk-tuk with a driver and he was able to recommend and bring me to places (I did not research much about Bagan initially) which were deemed as must-see based on my duration in Bagan and also shared some stories about the temples and lifestyles in Bagan. The room itself was big and pretty, more like a house instead of a hotel. Everything is well in order, though, if I closed all the curtains, my room will have no connection/WiFi connectivity at all - but that’s ok. The restaurant has some performances at night, and a beautiful view of the Ayeyarwady River during breakfast.
Excellent stay with great service and helpful staff ”
You exactly get what you pay for. Great hotel in the middle of Old Bagan. One disadvantage was there is no convenience store and not many restaurants around. However, the hotel got you all. In case you wanna buy some stuff, can use the E-Bike to Nyang U and get some.
An institution and a great location”
It’s 12 years since we last stayed at Bagan Thande, so it is an institution for us, close to a heritage resort with its bungalow style rooms with gardens in between, the marvelous view from the riverfront restaurant under the enormous acacia tree as well as the panorama bar for great riverview sunsets. The pool area is, as before, very nice, and you can just see the top of Gaw Daw Parlin, one of the main temples. Unfortunately the pool bar is not in use other than for collecting towels. A tip for management is to remove the pool bar and instead expand the area for sun chairs under the acacia tree. An upgrade of the sun chairs would also be appreciated. The current ones are very heavy and can’t really be moved to sun/shade as guests wish. The location is of course a key reson for choosing this hotel. Right in the arceological zone with walking distance to some of the main temples and easy access with bicycle, e-scooter, tuktuk or car for all temples. The rooms are quite large with rustic wooden materials including wood paneled walls. Bathrooms are large and with old style large taps and green tiles. It breathes something from a lost era. Beds are fine, quite soft and not as hard as elsewhere in Myanmar, and one of the pillows is quite soft. Two water bottles, coffee/tea and bathroom amenities are included. The front porch is great to relax at in the early evening when it cools off. They have and are carefully renovating the hotel piece by piece and it is in much better condition now than our last time 12 years ago. Keep up the good work! Breakfast is served from 6 AM which is good for those who need to go early temple hopping. Though, before 6:30 don’t count on all the breakfast items to be available. The same restaurant is for lunch and dinner. Service is good. efficient and friendly. Front desk check in/out, booking tours/transport and booking e-scooters is good and efficient. For the e-scooters they charge 4-7 KKyat (3-4.5 USD) per half-whole day. If you wa
The best hotel I've ever stayed in Pugan is situated on the Irrawaddy River. The environment is elegant, the service is in place, and breakfast can be enjoyed in the morning and sunset. It is also the most convenient place to visit Pugan. It's very convenient to rent a battery car. Get in touch with you at the bus terminal hotel. I will stay here in the future.
Would have been a pleasant stay if I hadn’t found out its dark history”
While I enjoyed this property and surroundings, it did not sit easy on my conscience to discover the history behind this property. This was the former site of a village, whose villagers were forced off their land at gunpoint. Your ability to enjoy a pleasant stay here, came at a great cost to others.
Great hotel in old bagan”
As it is in old Bagan, many famous Pagodas are just few minutes drive away. The restaurant is very nicely located on the river bank. We had dinner there. The food was ok but the atmosphere and the view were very pleasant. The staff are fantastic. The room was clean but a bit dated.
Loved sitting on the veranda of our room watching the boats on the river! So close to the sights of Bagan! Neat that the restaurant was built for the Prince of Wales' (Future King Edward who abdicated) visit in 1922. Charmed-so glad we picked this hotel to stay. Who knows if we'll ever be back in Bagan!
When It Counted”
I love Bagan, but didn't have the easiest time there. I fell of a motor scooter, cutting myself, and I got sick on my last two days. There are reviews that focus on the restaurant, or some aspect of the room. This review is to say that after checkout when I was sick and miserable and had 7 hours to wait before my bus would come, the staff offered me a room to rest in. It was unprompted, and I never would have dreamed of asking for it. They could see i was bandaged up from the bike, and that I was ill, and they really helped out. Also, the nightly puppet show and traditional music are really lovely.
A lovely hotel”
This is a lovely hotel with very nice and helpful staff. The breakfast buffet is very good and right by the river. It's a bit loud, though, because of the motor boats driving by, but it's still a nice view and a nice place to have breakfast. Another positive thing is that you can rent e bikes right in front of the hotel.
Convenient location good service ”
The hotel is located in the centre of old bagan by the river, with easy access to some of the very famous Pagodas. Staffs are generally very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a very nice view but cooking speed can be improved. You would wait for an average of 20+ minutes before you can get your food. Food price is okay compared to hotels of similar standard. The Wales Prince Suite can be improved. The room is very dark even in day time, the furniture is nice but the room looks very empty from the inside. The worst thing is that in mid night there are strange animals running around inside the ceiling which is quite annoying while you are trying to sleep. The staff told me those were cats but I knew those weren't since I do have a cat at home and they never sounds like that. Anyway I am sure the river view and garden view rooms are very nice. Just don't try the Wales Prince Suite.
Beautiful hotel near river with stunning sunset view”
the new building near the reception undergo rennovation, due to strong paint smell, we requested change rooms to other buildings and the management upgraded us to river facing rooms! one of the best spot in Bagan to view sunset over river.
Great view, supportive staff”
They allowed us to check in early, from 7 a.m. The hotel's located by the Irrawaddy river; view from bar and restaurant was great. You can sit there all day for free. Room was clean and staff are supportive. It's worth the price.
Great Location ”
Pros: good location coz it’s within the archeological zone so just walking distance to nearby pagodas. nice room. Balcony is a plus. Bathroom is huge with a bathtub. Very nice view of the river. Friendly staff. Since we had a kid in tow they let us check in very early. Cons: there was a construction until 10pm :( i think they were in a hurry to finish all the new rooms. Breakfast is so-so it was always the same everyday. (Stayed there for 3n/4d)
Quite expensive as all hotels in old bagan. Good standing and professional service - comparable international standards. What we were personally missing was the local style and atmosphere, but others might prefer this "international" style.
Pleasant hotel in the heart of old Bagan”
It's a great place to stay in after a long travelling day. Basic facilities are there and helpful receptions. On the website it was mentioned there are ATM but too bad it's been down for quite sometime. The restaurant offers spectacular sunset view overlooking the River as well.
Good value but under construction work ”
I got free upgrade from superior to deluxe room due to renovation near superior room building. Swimming pool is good but water is very cold. Breakfast besides the river is enjoyable but disturbing by crow on the tree.
Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!
