fantastic experience staying in Balgownie Estate ”
we had a fantastic experience staying in Balgownie Estate Vineyard Resort & Spa, hotel room is spacious & tidy, with jacuzzi, location is great, wine & food is good, we even played tennis after fantastic wine tasting. wonderful experience.. recommended!
Romantic stay with a great value of money . ”
My partner and I enjoyed our Yarra Valley overnight getaway. The resort had a great view, comfy suite, good facilities and a bathroom with an awesome view! I used to work for a luxury hotel chain and I couldn't help notice a things like a dusty bedside lampshade and dusty pendant lights over reception to name a couple. I'm sorry , I try my best not to go into "critique mode" but I just can't help it. When a place claims to be a 4.5 star luxury hotel, I expect it (facilities, people and experience) because I have experienced it. Overall, we had a great time and a relaxing stay.
Nice view and great cellar”
We stayed in this resort for the Yarra Valley wine tasting, the resort itself has a cellar. Very nice decoration and collection, the restaurant attached offers decent dishes. Very lovely view of the Yarra Glen, close to some famous Vineyard like de bortoli.
Relaxing and Comfortable”
The resort is well managed but I fell it is not generous where your money is only pay for the room. It has no wifi provided in the room and Movies is chargeable. However, overall my family and I enjoyed our stay with Mercure Yarra Valley.
Great weekend getaway”
Rooms were more akin to serviced apartments. On-site restaurant was excellent along with the wine cellar. Staff were friendly. Value for money in line with what you get with Australian hotels. Location is good in that it is in the middle of the Yarra Valley area, easy to navigate around from.
Great environment, great service”
The best apartment I had for my Melbourne trip. My kids enjoyed the spa in the room and had lotsa fun. I'll definitely come back here if I'm back in Yarra Valley.
Beautiful hotel with great view”
The room was very spacious and clean with a great view of Yarra Glenn's vine yard. The environment was peaceful and calm which was very relaxing. There's also a private Jacuzzi to ease your muscle after a long trip from Melbourne city. By walking to the top of the vine yard also allow you to catch the sunrise. Generally, a great hotel that i will definitely missed for a long time.
Fantastic 2nd stay here...”
We really loved Balgownie and all it had to offer. Brilliant, friendly staff in both the accommodation and restaurant areas, (Melissa at Reception, Hayley & Jess in the restaurant) delicious food, quick room service, delightful outlook and view and greatly appreciated complimentary upgrade for our 2nd stay in 2 weeks! The cooling system was difficult to manage tho and the bath towels too small. 2 minor issues that won't stop us staying there again in future :)
good food accompany with good view”
It was an enjoyable stay. Eat lunch and dinner at the vineyard's restaurant. superb menu presentation. great wine and staff services. the room is modern and plenty of space. great bed. big plasma tv available in the room. great bathrooms with bathtub fit for 2 person, while looking at the great view of yarra valley area
Great service and breathtaking scenery”
We thoroughly enjoyed our one night in the resort. We were welcomed at reception by hospitable staff and arrived at our rooms to find them comfortably spacious and luxuriously furnished (the only exception being the weakly-powered hairdryer). The rooms offer beautiful views of the surrounding Yarra Valley and so does stepping outside the hotel. The staff were prompt and helpful with our requests. Our only regret was being unable to remain longer at the resort.
Lovely & comfortable suite”
My family only stayed for one night, but we were specifically looking for a 2 bedroom & 2 bathroom set-up so that we could get ready faster in the morning. The suite was very well-equipped with everything we required and more - spacious wash area & kitchen. View was lovely as well. Bed was really comfortable - we had a hard time getting out of bed. We immediately felt at home at the Balgownie, and wished that we could have stayed for longer.
Not exactly what I expected”
I guess my expectations were high when the Balgownie Estate resort was recommended. I'm sure it could be much better and maybe it was just an off day. That said, I booked last minute and when we checked in I asked specifically if there was a room available with a balcony to be able to photograph the beautiful estate grounds. The receptionist said no but that our room had a fabulous view as all rooms do..NOT! Our room had a window with cobwebs and bird poo all over it and looked out at the backside of another building and onto the parking lot! Oh well...nothing that a little wine tasting couldn't cure and we were just in time to catch it before closing at 6pm. The gentleman at the cellar door was very knowledgeable and it was a delight to learn about the regional wines. Dinner at Rae's was good but not stella as expected for the price and the staff was very nice but I expected more sophistication at this price point. I also agree with one of the former reviewers that breakfast was disappointing when paying $32 pp. The eggs were runny, fruit looked reused and the nespresso machine couldn't keep up with people and didn't deliver hot drinks. My husband ended up ordering his coffee for extra. Luckily one of the staff (and I wish I caught her name) was nice enough to make me a complimentary flat white which was hot, saving the day Shameful that service can't be consistent for such a high end place.
The place was excellent. Will always be back when I am at Yarra Valley
Beautiful estate with nice rooms”
Though it was an one night stay, we did enjoy ourselves very much. The estate was very pretty and we wished we had taken the rooms with balcony. Nonetheless, our room was clean and comfortable. Believed the resort offers some walking route around the estate for those who want to explore the beauty of it. However, we skipped it due to the wet weather and muddy grounds. Overall, do recommend for couples who would like to have some quiet time together.
a short but enjoyable stay”
Hesitated initially when we saw the mixed reviews about Balgownie, but glad we chose it. Although rooms were bit dated, but well maintained and comfortable enough. Service was good as well. We had enjoyed our short and pleasant stay, and didn't want to leave the next day. Will be back.
Good times relax”
Had a great stay in a two bedroom with breakfast. Really could spend two days in the resort and vineyard if you wanted. The power cut out on the morning I left but the staff did their best to make the stay better.
Our family stayed in the Spa Suite and the room is big for a family of 5. Restaurant is good but a bit over priced. Anyway, a good chance for a short stay in the Yarra Region.
Awesome beautiful hotel in Yarra valley”
Excellent stay. Would highly recommend. The hotel is clean and modern and surrounded by beautiful vineyards. Nice hiking trail to take photos and tennis courts available too!
Lovely hotel, great views and beautiful spa”
we went to balgownie for a wedding and had a fantastic weekend. the wedding was lovely and breakfast the next day was great. we stayed the saturday also and had massages at the day spa, natskin, which were wonderful. the swimming pool is small but has lots of massage jets and swim jets if you would like to get some exercise in. it's not a cheap weekend but a great get away for couples for a weekend.
My family checked into Balgownie for a night out of Melbourne city. Wanted a place with good cellar, good restaurant, good service and most important of all, a good, comfortable and luxurious room. Balgownie did not disappoint us. The staff were friendly, the wine and food were good and the ambience of the restaurant was fantastic. The room was great with nice aromatic toiletries. We had a wonderful night.
