Quiet place with a beautiful garden in the Hutong. Friendly and helpful staff. Close from subway station. The perfect place to stay in Beijing. Small rooms, lack of space for clothes, taxes not included in the price given by Agoda when booking.

Not Bad, Good atmosphere for Chinese Atmosphere ”
The location is not as far as what other reviewers had mentioned. U must exit at 鼓楼大街 G exit, then just walk across the road, keep an eye on the 竹园 then you will be in the hotel in less than 5 min walk. The reception speaks fluent English, and they also allowed free baggage storage. The whole hotel is filled with Chinese atmosphere, which is quite good if you may want to have a feel of the Chinese culture. Overall experience is great.

    Absolutely beautiful! ”
The whole hotel is just beautiful. We felt like we were staying in a high end hotel, without paying high end prices. The breakfast is included and it's as you would expect. The beds were very comfortable and we felt safe in there. It's also a very quiet place. You can book private tours to the Great wall there, but it is very expensive so I would recommend trying to book it elsewhere. I would stay here again.

    Bamboo Garden Review”
This hotel really gave one the feel of a traditional Chinese home. The food was good. The price was reasonable
I really liked this hotel however there were a couple of things that I did not like. You could use the wifi one only one device. The drivers spoke no English. The hotel was not willing to provide one with subway maps. I had ordered a lift to the airport. (One of the hotel cars) That morning, I met a guest who was leaving for the airport and was glad to share a ride with me but the hotel would not let me cancel my ride.

Old Beijing charm at affordable price”
    Cleanliness, decor, gardens
Excellent. This hotel is the former villa of famous Chinese families, located among old style hutongs, and Is reasonably priced.I have stayed here twice and will go back anytime I am in Beijing. My scholarly friends congratulated me on choosing a hotel that represents the best of Chinese cultural tradition. And yet modern with a computer in every room, and no charge for wifi. Close to metro, Back Lakes arts, cultural, and entertainment district, and hundreds of small eateries.

Old world charm with modern conveniences”
Tasteful, traditional decor with modern plumbing and electrical conveniences
This is the best hotel I have stayed in since I started working in Beijing in 2003. It has traditional Chinese decor, beautiful gardens, modern electrical/plumbing/internet, is clean, and is very reasonably priced. It is close to the Metro, and close to the Back Lakes district. If you can avoid breakfast, eat somewhere else for the quality and price. Otherwise, I will definitely be back.

Great location, clean and modern rooms, beautiful and well kept grounds, friendly and helpful staff. All told a quite pleasant stay!
once again, the grounds were lush and well kept, the rooms large and clean and modern with everything functioning properly, the location was great and the staff was friendly and helpful. only downside is that the desk was understaffed and their english skills were marginal, at best. dispite this issue, i would highly recommend this hotel.

Affordable, location (hutong area, central), great service, spacious
The hotel is centrally located in a hutong area 3 km north of The forbidden city and is an oasis! Very good location, just a few hundred metres through an authentic hutong area to small lakes with a lot of atmosphare. Great service and very spacious room. High standard bathroom. Chinese style.

    Location and cost
what a pleasant surprise to find this charming hotel tucked away in beijing. located down xiaoshiqiao alley and tucked away behind courtyard walls, the bamboo garden hotel is situated in the former private residence of a qing dynasty postal minister. furnished in a traditional style, the hotel also offers modern amenities such as large screen tv's and computers with internet access. the garden is a pure delight and while we didn't eat at any of the restaurants they looked quite good. a great location and a nice quiet room made for a relaxing break in bustling beijing.

Peace at the heart of a busy city ”
Lovely Asian style, great restaurant, excellent service
We checked in on a Saturday afternoon and it was love at first sight. A quiet oasis in the middle of busy Beijing, it was hard to imagine you were just steps from the bustle of the streets and traffic of the capital. The room was excellent with everything you could ask for. Service was second to none. Staff were capable in English but you wouldn't hold a PhD seminar with them.

    Lovely courtyard style hotel”
Set in the hutong district, the hotel is a traditional courtyard style with very attractive garden, even in winter.
Nice to be a bit off the beaten track and to experience a more authentic side of China rather than another international chain hotel. Whilst not high luxury, the rooms are well appointed and scrupulously clean. The room had a computer with wi-fi. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, particularly at the front desk. The western-style breakfast was adequate but basic and plates and napkins had to be requested. They were very willing but English language was a problem with some of the waitresses.

    Most Enjoyable”
We received excellent assistance from the staff. The hotel was clean and provided everything except coffee, which we bought easily for ourselves. Computer in room was great! Located down a quiet street in a houtong. We enjoyed discovering the route in through the houtong. Convenient to the subway and convenient to taxi's and strong feeling of security for two sisters traveling alone. (We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot accurately rate the food, but based on the overall hotel I will rate it as good).
No English speaking channels on the nice flat screen TV, but with so much to see in Beijing we hardly missed the "news".
We already recommended this hotel to friends who live in Beijing - for their visitors. Be sure to print out and carry the address written in Chinese to give to the taxi driver. From this location we could easily walk to the subway, walk to and around the vibrant lake area. Tours arranged at the front desk and a fabulous foot massage in the hotel spa were great!

charming hotel in a traditional hutong”
location in a traditional hutong, antique style of building and furniture, close to subway
    none
The hotel is a renewed traditional chinese house in a hutong. Many hutongs are now being destroyed to make space for tasteless buildings, but this one seems to remain alive, and we do hope for long. The hotel has a range of accommodations and the suites are really beautiful, making you feel like a VIP of past century. Rooms are scattered around a nice garden. We like to walk around the hutong where probably we were the only tourists. We didn't try food, so "3" means "N/A".

Architecture, garden courtyards, location close to Bell and Drum towers, great selection of restaurants nearby, handy to Underground transport, quality of rooms and furnishings.
    None
This was the second time this year that we have stayed at the Bamboo Garden and it remains and excellent choice of hotel in Beijing. Not only is it well located not far from a range of tourist attractions with easy access to the underground railway but the hotel decor, furnishings, garden courtyards and quality of the rooms mark it as a cut above other hotels. Staff were polite and friendly. The weather changed dramatically while we were there (heavy snowfalls) but the rooms remained warm and comfortable.

    Oasis in a hectic Beijing”
After a long day of hard sightseeing, it was just so good to get back to the hotel and relax. The tranquility was a blessing. The rooms (incl. the bathrooms) were kept very clean and comfortable.
The mosquitoes. I got bitten while having a drink outside the restaurant.
Went to Beijing with my partner on business and to spent our summer holiday. Started out on a hotel in the former olympic city, close to where my partner attended a congress. The hotel was expensive and the atmosphere was too businesslike. We had anticipated this and booked our stay (as soon as the congress was over)at Bamboo Garden in advance None of us knew Bamboo Garden from before. It was such a great choice. The tranquility was such a blessing after a hard day of sightseeing in Beijing. It was nice to get back to the rooms, beautifully decorated and clean. Stayed there for 10 days and will definitely recommend the place to friends in case they go to Beijing
