Great river view room on raft and comfy bed”
I stayed at Bamboo House for two nights and it was fantastic stay. The room we booked was deluxe river view which has great view of Kwai river. The room condition was clean and spacious and fully equipped with what facilities you want. Wi-Fi was fast enough to serve webs. If you are looking for nice hotel with reasonable price and easy to access to tourist attractions and local bars and restaurants, Bamboo House could be the one of your choice without a doubt.
We loved the Bamboo House!”
We loved the Bamboo House! It is so close to the River Kwae Bridge and museum. It has a beautiful and relaxing property that is down to earth. If you're looking for a big resort with amenities and service, this isn't it. But if you want pretty lawns, flowers, clean huts by the river, and plenty of breathing space, this place is great. For Americans, so far all the beds in Asia have been hard but Bamboo House had the most comfortable. We were worried about there bring no air conditioning - we came in March (the beginning of the hot season), but the fan was enough at night. If you get a room with included breakfast it will be a continental style of sorts anywhere, so the breakfast wasn't amazing, but compared to the rest it was a good spread. In March starts the season for burning the fields which makes the area smoky just to warn you but that will be the same for all of Northern Thailand. Overall we were very happy to land at Bamboo house and plan on staying there again our next trip.
Cheap and cute hotel ”
We really liked Bamboo house for its location on the river and the view. It was really cute and cheap but BEWARE those who are seasick do NOT stay on the cheap bungalows on the river - they move a lot, especially every time there's a boat, which is all morning. We got lucky the first night but the next day we got woken up all morning by boats passing on the river and our bungalow swinging around madly. Also we didn't realize that for the cheaper rooms it's shared bathrooms and showers - they're clean so it's not that bad but just a heads up. The restaurant isn't bad either but the breakfast is 100THB by default despite what the menu says, and it's not that good for that price... You're 10mins away by tuktuk/taxi from the bus station- aka 100THB ride away (there is little leeway for negotiation). So we recommend the hotel but if you're into more comfort and you're seasick spring for the rooms that are on land or on the river and have bathrooms (they're actually stable)!
We've spent one night in the Bamboo House as a couple. It was a great place to stay for the price we paid! Our little house was on the river, one bed on the floor and a fan. It rocketed side to side as boats passed by, which wasn't unpleasant, surprisingly. Toilets and shower are shared. Clean room, amazing view, really nice and welcoming staff. Would recommend for those looking to spend a cheap and nice rustic night by the Kwai River. It's next to the Kwai River Bridge but a little further from the Kanchanaburi centre (20min walking of 5 min taxi for 100-150 bahts).
Peaceful stay on the Kwai river”
Bamboo House is a very good place to stay in Kanchanaburi, with a range of options from the very basic (and cheap) raft to the more comfortable rooms with a/c and private toilet, all with a very nice outside patio. Only a 5/10 minutes walk to the bridge on the river Kwai, and to some nice bars and restaurants. Some of the staff speak good english, other not really, but it's not an issue as they can easily redirect you to someone who can understand. All are very kind and helpful!
Excellent location - fabulous staff”
We took the night train from south & arrived very early at the hotel and the staff were most friendly & accommodating & we had the pleasure of spending a couple nights here - loved the location & room right on the river. We stayed in one of the cottages & it had a nice little deck to enjoy the river views. Property is situated a 5-10 min walk to the historical "Death Railway" (which you can see from Bamboo House). Breakfast was included daily & consisted of a variety of fresh fruits, traditional "Thai" breakfast (rice, meat, soup) as well as eggs, sausage & toast. Excellent value for the money! Note: we rented scooters from a guy named Tony who is located right across the road from where you turn into the property - 200 baht per day. They also rent kayaks, but we ran out of time!
Great unique stay in bamboo hut on river”
I chose to stay in one of the bamboo huts on the river. The staff were very friendly on arrival and the hut itself was a great experience. The bed was a mattress on the floor which I found very comfortable, and there was a fan and small mirror in the room. Downside was there was only one plug. The hut would move whenever a boat went past and outside noises seemed very loud, so if you're a fussy sleeper maybe this isn't for you. I was worried about bugs in the night but didn't see any at all except for some friendly geckos. It was very clean, in a great location a few minutes' walk from the River Kwai Bridge and I had a very comfortable, enjoyable stay. I'd definitely recommend it, if simply to experience something different from the usual hotel room.
Lovely raft houses”
I only stayed here for a night, but absolutely loved the rustic raft houses on the river - of course, the beds are but thin mattresses on the ground, but you get what you pay for! Shared toilet facilities on land are serviceable; nothing to rave about, but fine. While I'm certain that the normal rooms or even the new, larger, more modern rafthouse would have been better-appointed, I would still go with the bamboo ones - but to each his own. A word of caution to those who get seasick easily: when boats pass by on the river (as they often do), your raft house will oscillate up and down with the resultant waves. This could lead to a bit of nausea, if you're inclined towards it! For those who aren't, though, this was incredibly fun, especially when you're just sitting and relaxing on the nice bench they have. One more thing - the old man who works there is incredibly lovely. When I returned slightly tipsy late at night, stumbling out of my tuk tuk, he offered to guide me back to my raft, gesturing at me to hold on to his shoulder for support. I really appreciated the offer, even though I didn't take it! Plus, for an old Thai guy, the fact that he could speak a bit of English was very impressive. All in all, a lovely place! It is at least 15-20 minutes away from the main bar stretch though, depending on your walking pace, so I was glad that I'd spent a couple of nights right in the middle of the bars before that.
Gorgeous setting by the river ”
The room, grounds and restaurant were great- really pretty and very clean. Breakfast wasn’t anything special but the food from the menu was delicious. Bamboo House is located only 300 metres from the River Kwai Bridge so it’s easy to walk there. I stayed for 2 nights but would have loved to stay longer.
Memorable stay on a river raft on the river Kwai”
Staying on a river raft was a great, fun experience. I'd recommend it to anyone. It was a very good price especially considering that a nice breakfast was included. The rooms were quite basic but still decent and clean. Very good value for money in an excellent location for seeing the bridge. One tip for people arriving by train, if you carry on one stop further than Kanchanaburi (River Kwai Station) you are 5 minutes walk from Bamboo House.
Beautiful, Romantic Location”
We stayed in one of the rooms on the river. It was such a lovely place, very relaxed vibe and clean rooms and even the shared bathrooms were clean and most of the time nobody was using them. Most of the staff were really friendly. The food is also good. I’m still confused by some of the reviews for this place, it is adorable and for such a good price. I can’t complain about anything. Must be the best place in Kanchanaburi. We would also recommend hiring bikes and cycling out of the touristy area, there are lovely, local food stalls only a short journey away and amazing temples about 18km away. One of our favourite places in Thailand.
Stay in kanchanaburi”
Stayed two nights at the bamboo house, bungalow on the river. Nice helpful staff, good breakfast, enjoyed swimming in the river Kwai, the bungalow served all our needs. Recomend for everyone on a restricted budget.
Authentic experience in special surroundings”
Bamboo house is a lovely place to relax and have the real river Kwai experience. You can see the bridge from the raft rooms and enjoy the sunsets from your little terrace. The gardens are also lovely. The staff here were friendly and laid back as well as helpful. We stayed in the cheapest raft on the river with shared bathrooms. Staying on the raft was cool but not for everyone. The room is very basic and it moves when boats pass but the worst part for us were the paper thin walls that divided us from the next room so we could hear the guy next door coughing all night. The shared bathroom could do with and upgrade, another shower and wash hand basin would be good. Our friends stayed in the triple room/family room and that was far better - private bathroom with hot shower and towels provided. The breakfast was quite good and they are very generous, along with whatever menu set you order you can have as much toast and cornflakes as you like as well as tea and coffee.
Best place to stay”
Recommended for those who love nature. The bamboo house is really convenience. Staff really helpful and good breakfast. walking distance to river kwai bridge, museum and markets. Overall is nice.
3 night stay on bamboo raft”
We had a pleasant experience at the bamboo house. The raft is what you'd expect for the price - 2 foam mats on the floor with a fan and an outlet in the room. Definitely a cool experience. No mosquitos bothered us in the room at night, the odd ant was in the room but wasn't terrible. Shared toilet and shower right near the raft. Staff were very friendly and offer many services (continuing travel bookings/motorbike rentals). Breakfast every morning from 7-10 (100 baht for those on the raft as it's not included in nightly fee). We'd stay again if we came back to kan!
Quaint hotel local vibe gorgeous view of river”
The view was divine. We stayed on the river Kwai on the quaint raft house . It was loud with the riverboat cruises early evening but funny to watch . The staff were really friendly warm and local . For a nice local experience this is a good place to stay . Shower on raft could do with a little more TLC but the experience for price made up for it .
A minimalist's dream”
We loved the Bamboo house! Stayed 5 nights instead of the intended 2. We got the raft room. It has a fan, outlet, light, and little porch. The bathroom and shower are very close (but shared). The people are nice and the breakfast is great. (Toast, coffee, eggs, ham, fruit, etc.) If you're looking for some place fancy, don't come here. If you want somewhere simple with great views of the River Kwai and a great breakfast. Come This way! We might still be here :)
Pretty nice, serenful environful and well kept”
I stayed in one of the Bamboo huts. The facilities were basic but for the price point, it was acceptable. The best part is the location, it is walkable from the Kwai bridge and it was also visible from my hut. The huts are situated right on top of the river and the views are great. Even if you don't plan to visit anywhere, you can just sit outside the hut and watch the world go by.
peaceful time at Bamboo House”
it was very quiet place with kind staff. Everyone at Bamboo House was nice and kind. It was little bit away from main Travellers' area which was fine with me since I enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the place :-) It was like staying at Grandma's country house ( bed was not comfortable enough for me but it was only for a few days so it was ok considering the price)
Very pleasant and welcoming place”
We have stayed in the raft house with the beautiful view on the river Kwai. I really enjoyed it. It is definitely for people who like to be close to the nature and do not expect luxurious conditions. Breakfast was very nice and simple, both Thai and European style. The place is very peaceful and pleasant. The staff was very nice and helpful.
