“Excellent Staf”
Our first visit to the Maldives and very happy with the choice to have stayed at Bandos. One of the oldest resort islands in the Maldives, this is certainly not reflected in the quality of the resort, its accommodation or facilities. We are staying in a garden room, and whilst towards the lower end of the selection, budget wise, it is certainly not disappointing. Giving a more genuine 'Maldivian' feel, also perfectly located for all the main facilities, especially the pool, breakfast restaurant (Gallery), gym and one of the best beaches on the island. The only downside of the Garden Villas, and one which would make us consider other accommodation on future visits, is how thin the walls are, having had issues with hearing noise from the guests in the adjoining villa. A big part of the holiday for us was always going to be our first experience of diving in the Maldives. We are experienced scuba divers but had no idea what to expect here. The dive centre, 'Dive Bandos' is a great setup, spacious and well-run, its staff and the local dive sites are outstanding, the highlight of which was a site which offered an incredible close-up experience with Manta Rays. A first for us. Special mention should be given to instructors Reehaan and Sivad, who were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was great at The Grill, Seabreeze and Huvan. Our personal opinion is that the All Inclusive package wasn't worth having. We went bed and breakfast and have not gone wanting at all, being able to eat and drink where and what we wanted, and in fact, spent less than we would have if on AI. Just worth to say. It needs to be mentioned that what has really made our holiday here (despite the slight Toromelinos feel which was provided by certain British and German guests [not all, we've made some great friends, Mandy, Frank, Gerry!!] especially around the pool at certain times) was the staff. Besides the great staff at Dive Bandos, we have never experienced such a level of service and genuine, warm friendliness as some of the bar and restaurant staff in Bandos have provided. Worth a special mention are, Jay at the Huvan restaurant for his warmth and friendly conversation. Ibrahim for his amazingly honest and helpful advice on the island's facilities and eating options on our arrival. And last but not least, the pool bar staff: The super-friendly Pankaj with his warm smile and great service, and the irreplaceable Guru, who made us feel like friends each day, whether serving us at the pool bar or at the SandBar in the evenings, alongside the incredible entertainment provided by The Wood band, amongst others. Guru was the most engaging staff member we met here, going above and beyond to ensure our happiness and satisfaction, making sure that we were greeted with the best evening cocktails we've ever tasted, and giving us great advice on the drinks selection.
