BannMakok is in a lovely setting. There staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and the reception area lovely and relaxing. Kayaks are available and it is a short paddle to the beach. Food is great.
Beautiful location, peaceful and relaxed But..........”
This place is beautiful location, peaceful, relaxed, beautiful river and beach. We like the atmosphere of the accommodation and enjoyed kayak and swim at the beach but there are many things that we are not impressed. - Some staff are not friendly and not take care customers they are busy on them mobile screen but some staff are friendly and good service. - We stayed for 4 nights but never changed towels, bath mat we have to ask for change and always have to ask for free bottled drinking water to the room. - Breakfast is not many choice for buffets and there are ants in the food that are placed in the tray. - Quite a lot of mosquitoes. - Have many cats and dogs. - Only can turn on the air conditioner during the night. - Accommodation is quite far from the community.
SMOKING, AIRCON, SERVICE”
Our room often filled with smoke from smokers. Aircon does not work during the day so could not shut room to keep out smoke. ROOMS WOULD BE VERY HOT IN SUMMER. Some staff were attentive, but most just looked at their phones and had to be called to do anything.
Nice Staff ”
Location is good, nice staff, so chillaxing here.
We stayed in 3 resorts in our first trip to Koh Kood and Bann Makok definitely outshined the rest. We are impressed with its unique design - all its 8 rooms have individual functions and layouts, made from reclaimed woods. It's secluded, hidden among mangroves along the quiet river, but 5 minutes kayaking would bring you to the unspoiled beautiful beach. The food is superbly delicious and they are not stingy when comes to breakfast selection (even coffee!). The staff are friendly and attentive. We were brought to see fire flies at night and one staff even went extra miles to catch us one - pretty amazing experience. Bann Makok has surely raised the bar very high and would make a come back!
from arrival to departure, the staff team was superb. good breakfasts and reasonably priced and good food throughout. thought 5 nights might be too long with little to do but swim in the klong (brilliant), kayak to an empty beach (great), or hike to swim at the foot of the waterfall (with no one else around). relaxing and a great experience after 4 weeks of travel and sightseeing. can't recommend highly enough.
Very individual cozy place”
after 3 days staying in captain hook we stayed two more days here. it was very relaxing, very calm. you should come here when you need to charge your batteries - with reading, sleeping, kayaking. the staff was lovely, the food could need some improvement. it,s all a bit bland and normal, nothing outstanding.
Unforgetable experience @ Bann Makok The Getaway”
we enjoyed our stay at bann makok very much. it is perfect for those who want to immerse in a relax and peaceful environment. it has no tv and that's the purpose, to getaway from everything at home. there are only 8 rooms available and not crowded as other accommodations on the island. we were very happy with friendly staff. food was great especially thai dishes. the room was decorated in a retro style feeling very warm to stay. we love the shower in the bathroom! the beach is easily accessed by 5 minutes kayaking up the canal. bring lots of books to read and a minimum 2 nights stay is recommended! only drawback was small black ants that were harmless. we'd definitely be back again!
Perfect place ... a hidden treasure”
This place is perfect for all those who are looking for a smaller resort and a more authentic experience beyond the luxury and hustle of a conventional modern resort. The staff is very friendly and supportive. The food in the restaurant is very good for a reasonable price. It is the perfect place to spend some relaxing days on the island. As the resort is very small, it is easy to get in touch with other guests. The guest houses are characterized by a lovely and warm vintage style. They have everything you need but do not expect a modern room with TV and mini bar ... you will not miss it. The location of the resort is great - you can take one of the resort's free kayaks to the beach. You will explore wonderful empty beaches only a few minutes away. But of course – not much around here (what is good if you like it). I can recommend the snorkeling tour offered at the resort. It was well organized and goes to small islands with crystal clear water and a lot of sea life.
The perfect getaway”
The only disappointment was that we weren't able to stay longer as there was no availability, we moved instead to Captain Hook and it had nothing on Bann Makok. Quirky, and nestled among the mangroves they do veggie food and fab cocktails, with a happy hour from 5-7pm (2 for 1). Free kayak use, and peaceful places to curl up with a book, a real gem. If you want to avoid the resorts and crowds and come here. Thanks for having us
wish to stay forever”
The moment I arhived I felt like in fairrytale. The rooms are beautifull. But you have to ask to clean it up otherwise they wont. At nihgt there is a lot of moisture so dry your chlotes during the day. You should have watherproof backpack with your because the best way to go to the beach is with kayak. You can also rent a motorbike. Breakfast is tasty. You can choose betwen several meals. And there is also self service: marmelade, bread, pancakes, fruit. There is no tv in the room but you have a movie night every day at seven. It was romantic.
Amazing getaway tucked in the mangrove trees”
The staff is so friendly and welcoming! Accommodations are beautiful and peaceful and the food is delicious! I could spend the rest of my life here! Just be careful when booking a speedboat back to Trat because we purchased tickets from the front desk but it was for a commuter boat that took us to the wrong pier so we ended up missing our flight. Book your speedboat online in advance since they have a tendency to sell out as well. But even that mishap didn't ruin the stay, which was quite magical. I was lucky enough to visit during the best time for bioluminescence and was able to take a late night swim in the bay! The staff turned off some of the lights for me and sat by the dock with a flashlight to keep me company - they went above and beyond! Will never forget the incredible experience I had at Bann Makok due to the lovely staff and charming atmosphere.
beautiful, romantic and serene”
Absolutely stunning location. Such a beautiful eclectic, rustic and romantic spot right on the water. Every single detail has been thought of. Truly a unique spot unlike many resorts on the island. I will dream of this place. Staff is stellar and the food was fantastic. 11/10
Amazing peaceful location”
If you're looking for a place created with love and care for the details, in a location out of the ordinary, look no further. Without bling but with plenty of heart and a feeling for the real qualities in life, this peaceful haven is a true bliss. The amazing rooms, all indivudally created, the fantastic food and the fresh salt water canal on the doorstep are all reasons enough to come here but the real treasure is the wonderful staff. They went out of their way to help me create the perfect setting for my planned marriage proposal, without asking for a single baht for their trouble. I can't thank them enough!
Coolest place I've ever stayed at”
Bann Makok really might be the coolest place I've ever stayed at. The decor and structure of the place is beautifully executed, and so unique! I was here on my honeymoon and out of the 6 different hotels we stayed at this is the most memorable experience. The location is great - you get to experience the jungle side of Koh Kood, while still being only a 5 minutes kayak from a gorgeous beach. The food here is awesome - possibly the best kitchen on the island. Get the fried bass with chilies. Every time we ate elsewhere we regretted the decision and wished we were back at Bann Makok. The bartender is great too! Finally, we loved the ambiance. Because it's so small (only 8 units), you get to know the staff and other travelers. One night, the staff spotted fireflies, and on the spot rounded up those of us that we hanging about to get on a boat to see fireflies and the bioluminescent water (only in high season!). That's the kind of familial vibe that you get. A+ experience!
Very private and close to nature”
The environment is excellent. It is surrounded by mangrove. You can jump to the water from your room. Free kayak all day and you shouldn't miss it. It is very close to the famous waterfall of the island by walking distance. You can rent motorcycle here but it's quite expensive than outside and no gasoline in the motorcycle when you rent it. Food is great. Our room has only fan so it's hot at night and there are many mosquitos around but other than this I want to recommend this place to fill up your soul.
Absolutly the best place”
Fantastic ! The food and the staff was the best! You must have motorbike and do not bring small children . This is a place for relax ! Best place in koh kood If you go whith motorbike , visit view cafe and bang bao bay!
Fantastic place ....but no sleep.....”
During the day it was a fantastic Place! but we had trouble sleeping since the walls was very thin you could here absolutely evything and we woke up sevral times every night hearing either other neighbours or animals. So, bring earplugs! For us two nights was enough.
a very pleasant stay”
We stayed here for five days or so (can't remember - the time passed so quickly!). Bann Makok is quite secluded, and while early birds can enjoy very quiet mornings, late night owls can enjoy equally quiet nights with a starry sky. As for "in between", most rooms will hear at least some noise from the dining area, which is located in the very middle of the facility. However, since the hotel is small, and built in the mangroves, we suppose space is an issue, and such noise is probably compensated for by the proximity of food and drinks. The staff at this hotel were very helpful with everything, from cooking/serving food to arranging trips and scooter (moped) rentals. One complaint we might have was that we normally found the food too salty - but it may be that it was just us, used to less salt in food (we did see some Western European guests add extra salt into their food! :) Cocktails, too, were a little poor (but beer was available, too). For those expecting to be able to walk to the beach, this is not a place to stay! To get to the beaches, one must either drive, or take the boat (kayaks are available for the guests for no charge). But for those who like to paddle, it's great fun, as the canal is wide and calm, and the beach is, really, quite close. We, personally, like it this way. There may be little space there for children to play (whereas the canal is too deep for amateur swimmers), and families with smaller children should take this into consideration. However, for anybody in search for a remote and quiet corner, Bann Makok is a great place.
A relaxing retreat from the world”
This is without a doubt the best place I have ever stayed. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly - we had many good chats with Pang and Mark. They are able to accommodate anything you want! They will organise a massage for you at the hotel, rent you a moped to explore the island and even help you with travel arrangements before you arrive and after you leave. The place itself is set on a river which leads down to a small beach cove, which has clean sand and beautiful clear, warm sea water. It is so peaceful and tranquil when in the lounge area, you can relax in the hammock and just listen to the sound of the river and the wildlife. The island of Koh Kood is small and remote, so it is well worth hiring a moped and going out to explore the myriad of waterfalls and beaches on offer - one of the most lovely beaches I have ever seen is on Khlong Chao Bay, which is about a 15 minute moped journey south of Bann Makok. We have only just arrived back from Thailand and are already planning our next stay at Bann Makok :)
