It depends what your priorities are”

If you want cheap accommodation then it was fine. However if you are an independent traveller looking for assistance in getting a meal, organising outings etc then you are on your own & there is very little English spoken nearby also.

    Horrible place to stay”

+ Nice common area. Can't think of anything else that was good... - I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Really hard to find a person at the reception, so better book tours, transportation, etc. at other places. Staff(if you finally find them) doesn't speak English. The room was unpleasant (but at least basically clean). Hot shower didn't work one night.

    They speaks ZERO english”

No chrarging points in room. Only one with the light switch. Location is abt 1.5 km away from main center. Walkable BUT not even a dining place within sight of the guesthouse. Staff are friendly & polite BUT communication was a big problem. Only lady who can speaks little English supposed to help with bus tix booking ended up not doing it. Almost missed my forwarding trip due to this. Supposed to help with booking of tour but no respond also. Thankfully I did my own when didn't hear from her. And she d"disappeared" for next 2 days. Not recommended, there are plenty better guest house down the road. At least in terms of location.

    A place for sleeping only”

This House is located in the main road, near restaurant and other hotels/guest houses but quite far to the site of Plain of Jars. Nothing to comment for this house, the room was ok, not smell but old (whole building is old),staff cant speak English. I booked 3 rooms for our group through Agoda but the staff didn't understand even I showed the booking code. We checkout early in the morning but the staff asked us to pay again and I had to explain him that we already pay via Agoda.

Big Rooms, nicest staff, good location”

Nice and suportive staff, big room, very clean.

I spent 4 nights at the Banna and enjoyed it. The bed was very big and comfortable. The staff was nice and supportive. It is a few minutes to walk to the "center" of Phonsavan. I would book this place again.

    Out of town centre”

Cleanliness of linen, ground floor room, quiet if room fan turned off

Bedding was clean and room basic but a bit dusty from construction next door, staff did not speak enough English but we're kind and offered the ground floor as I had mobility issues. Quite a walk if you have mobility issues so not ideal for the town centre where all the eating places were located. No breakfast available so very poor on the food front :( Lighting was controlled by the trip switch (which works in reverse). Bathroom was neat and clean but basin ran out near feet...also hot water was not switched on so took a bit of effort figuring out how to have a decent shower.

    quiet, relaxing”

    big room, nice bed, price

Located almost directly across from the bus stop it was less than 5 min walk to the hotel. Check in was super fast and staff were very polite. We had a room with a view from the back of the hotel but it was much better than the front view of the road. Could see for miles and the fields/trees were very nice to look at. The bed in our room was one of the most comfortable beds in Southeast Asia that I have ever slept on. Large room with a good size bathroom/shower. Turn on the water heater switch when you arrive, takes awhile to heat up. Tv in our room but no fridge. Floors were a bit dusty/dirty but this was a minor issue. a/c worked well, you need to get remote from staff. A market across the street. Went to see Plain Of Jars and the Lao memorial and Vietnam War memorial, rent tuk tuk because it is further distance than you think. We paid 100,000 Kip for tuk tuk to take us to both memorials, and 120,000 Kip next day for a trip to Plain Of Jars. They will wait for you to get visit and then return you to town. Hotel is located on a long straight street, several types of shops but not a lot of places to eat near hotel. We walked about 20 mins towards the town centre and found a great restaurant called "Bamboozle", made entirely from bamboo. This place had awesome food, great prices and very friendly staff. We stayed in Phonsavan 2 days and ate there 3 times, highly recommended. Located just down the road from the Xieng Khouang hotel, same side.

    Location, price and friendly staff

We arrived around 6am from Vientiane, we thought it was too early for check-in but they let us in to our room. The bed was springy, room was not clean, hot water kept running out. It's a budget hotel so you get what you pay for I think.

A quiet stay in a clean hotel”

Clean and centrally located, right in front of the minivan station

It was a quiet and comfortable stay but the only difficulty is communicating with the staff who does not speak English. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers who will stay in Xieng Khuoang.

    Lovely staff, room, view

The staff were so lovely and helpful and they tried really hard to communicate and be nice to us. The room was lovely and big and clean. The windows were massive and looked out over farmland. There is local food stalls very close by. For western food it's a short walk to town. We hired bicycles from town and cycled to the Plain of Jars from the hotel. It was pretty close and a lovely ride. The MAG centre is brilliant and a must see.

Large room but you get what you pay for”

    Friendly morning staff, hot water

Our stay here was overall ok however it started off bad. When we stepped off the plane in Phonsavan, we were met by a driver to take us to the hotel. Once at the hotel (about a 10min drive), we found out he works for a tour company and somewhat pressures you to booking a tour to the Plain of Jars. Knowing that is why you are there, it's hard to say no! It was very expensive but we had our own air conditioned van with driver and english guide (extra of course!). The hotel is located out of the main "city" so all resturants were a 10min walk. It gets cold at night so this was not the most pleasant walk! The room was ok but not what we booked. The balcony is a wrap around one on both sides and not a private one like it is made to sound. The first room they showed us didn't have A/C or a balcony but they were very willing to change rooms (probably as we were one of the few couples there!). If you go this time of year, do not worry about the A/C as the rooms have a fan which keeps it cold enough!! Breakfast is your typical Laos fare - bagette and fried eggs. There were also fresh bananas and coffee/tea. Laundry was expensive but saved walking down to the centre to get it done. English is very poor but we were able to communicate enough to have our needs met. We cannot complain about the views from the back side of the hotel. We agree with other reviewers in that while the rooms were a bit tired looking, for the money it was perfectly fine.

    not far from center

if you want to stay one or two days in phonsavan, this hotel is ok. you have a bed, a bathroom, a toilet and a tv, but that's it. you get what you pay and as an extra you get the noise of the trucks on the main road.

Decent Hotel. 1 Staff Member Made Bad Impressio”

    Good Sleep

The hotel has nothing particularly impressive about it. There are other places with better location. The rooms are clean. The shower was nice. Unfortunately, our arrival started on a bad note. The staff at Reception asked for our Agoda voucher. I explained that we did not have access to a printer but I could use his computer I would open my email account and show him the voucher. Another staff member asked if we wanted a Twin or Double. I explained that we would prefer a Double but that Agoda showed only a Twin was available. The first staff member then said, (THIS is your room. It is a Twin). That was the end of the story. It was rude, it was unnecessary. To make the issue more memorable, the coupe next to us, with no reservation, asked for a Double and got it while we were waiting for our voucher to appear online. We will not go back there.

    Average guest house”

Good free breakfast, 2 eggs and baguette with tea or coffee.

Staff weren't very helpful and were never at the front desk so was hard to find them. They charged way too much for laundry, We booked a private minivan for the 3 of us with front desk to see the plain of jars so we could do it at our own pace and we payed a little extra to do so. However when the minivan turned up the next day there was 3 other people in the minivan and it was as part of a tour. There was nothing we could do as we were only there 1 night and didnt want to miss out. It ended up being a good day with the tour but it cost us more than the other 3 on the tour with us and they wouldn't give any money back.

view from our room fantastic of rice fields

we booked 2 rooms at this hotel, one for us one for the children. our room was very large, sunny with fantastic views, the childrens' room was smaller with a view of the street. both rooms were a bit tired looking but for the money, it was perfectly fine. breakfast was simple but good. staff friendly and helpful - limited english spoken. a bit out of the way of the main restaurants and mag but we walked the 10 mins down the road.
