Best Beach”
my stay was super because Sangthian Beach for me is the most beautiful and quiet beach on Koh Samed. Good food you can find on the pier at Apache Bar. The staff was friendly and I could change my room after the air-condition was not working well in the first room. uncomplicated and helpful. I will return to Baan Thai Sangthian Resort.

Fantastic and peaceful location, friendly staff”
the ban thai sang thian resort, not to be confused with the sangthian resort a couple of hundred meters north along the beach, is extremely well located with a marvelous view of the sea east of koh samet. the resort is on the small but relatively quiet ao thian beach, and has its own small but nice and white strip of sand, with a few deck chairs and a couple of gnarly old trees to provide a bit of shade if required. the water is very clear and when snorkling it's easy to spot many small, colourful fish around the few but smooth rocks on the bottom. the place has a very peaceful atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and keen to help when needed. the rooms aren't huge but they have a nice authentic feel to them - at least the 2nd floor thai family villas with room for four and their own balcony do. there's no restaurant at the resort but right next door at the viking holiday resort there's a reasonably priced restaurant with friendly and charming staff that can also help arrange tours, and there are also several restaurants both north and south of the ban thai. on either side of the resort there are also minimarts as well as massage places, whereof especially the one just 20 meters north of the ban thai is supposedly very good. in connection with the sangthian resort there's an atm. speedboats from ban phe on the mainland dock directly at the ban thai resort if requested, and shouldn't at the time of writing cost more than baht for a return trip. there's free wifi at the resort but the connection isn't very fast and is somewhat unstable. the beds in our room were rock-hard but i understand that this is not unusual for thailand. overall the entire family, two of which are aged six and nine, really liked the ban thai and we will definetely come back if given the opportunity!

We loved this place”
The BanThai resort is located in a rather quiet and beautiful area with a small but very nice sandy beach (a larger sandy beach is located just 200 m away). A unique advantage is that there are some trees on the beach under which you can shelter from the sun when you need to do so. The houses are not bungalows or hotel apartments but are traditional Thai style houses built in a wood looking like mahogany, just like you can see in historic Thai parks such as in Ancient Siam near Bangkok. This is very charming and gives you a feeling of being in "real Thailand", far from western-style resorts. This feeling is amplified by the extremely nice staff; men and women 20-35 years who always smile and do their best to assist you. I and my wife fell in love with them all. Only the boss (?) speaks English well but he is always called and available within a few seconds if you have a question. The friendly staff, the traditional houses and the small and cosy resort made us feel like we were staying in a family. Several reviewers have remarked about relatively stiff beds. Yes, the beds are stiffer than most of us in Europe or North America are used to, but my experience is that this is typical in Thailand, and I and my wife slept very well. So, do not bother about it. The AC was sufficient and the wifi worked well in our house. The only problem was that the electric power outlets had become worn, so that plugs of both Thai and European style sat loose. This might have been a problem only in our house. If you expect luxury, don't go here, but if you want a place you can fall in love with, choose BanThai!

Great hotel, lovely and calm beach”
we were surprised! staff are so kind and helpful. the hotel is simple but clean, calm, safe and beautiful. the only bad thing about this hotel is that the beds and pillows are not soft. the beach is really small, calm and relaxing, almost private, but is very close to other beaches with lots of restaurants and bars. you can take a taxi from sangthian to ao phai (one of the most famous for bars and parties)and many other beaches for 300 baht. the hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but there are many good ones surrounding the hotel (withing walking distance). they also sell packages for snorkeling and scuba diving. we would definitely stay in this hotel again!

Great location!”
we booked a triple even though there were only 2 of us because it's all they had left. the beds were all rock hard but, wonderfully enough, the room had a futon that was large enough to comfortable sleep 2. it was much more comfortable than the beds. the location was perfect! we saw many other beaches and resorts on the island and think that banthai sangthian has a wonderful location! not so crowded and touristy, but not too snobby either. lots of families and very little sleaze. housekeeping left much to be desired - as in we didn't get it except for 1 day. language was also a huge problem - it seemed only the lady who managed the place spoke any english. the beach was small during high tide but we could use the very nice lounge chairs at the resort next door at no cost. water was very clean and clear. we loved the little covered lounge chairs in the garden area - nice way to relax in the shade and get the beautiful ocean view! we stayed in a bungalow at the very back of the property and it was very quiet. we heard some people complain about outdoor bathrooms but ours was indoors and we had no problems with the hot water.

Thai-style buildings in a beautiful garden”
i stayed three nights in banthai sangthian. the hotel is a two-story structure in an exotic garden. plenty of butterflies during the day - hordes of mosquites at night. i had a first floor room. it was clean and spacious, although a bit dim and had a musty smell when the aircon was off. the upper floor rooms seemed better value. the staff was friendly, cleaned the room and chaged the linen when asked. their english was very basic. there's no restaurant, but there's plenty available just a short walk away. the beach itself was okay, rather quiet on most nights. watch out for drunken thais who arrive with speed boats to have karaoke on the beach!!

Beautiful surroundings”
Ao Sangthien is a calm place with nice white sand. If you want to have some party, the next beach (Ao Wongduen) is only 5 min. on foot. Banthai Sangthian is a nice place to stay. The rooms are mostly clean and not stinky at all, not like some other places. The bathrooms are attached to the room, but they are "open air" places with a tin roof, so all insects can enter without any difficulties. It's better to take a ferry directly to Ao Wongduen (approx. 70 THB) from the mainland, because the main pier is pretty far from Ao Sangthien, and the taxi is relatively expensive (approx. 200-250 THB).

Great place to stay”
a great place to stay on koh samet. reasonably priced in comparison with other resorts. the beach right in the front is a bit small but nonetheless beautifil. you can walk easily to other beaches which are also great.the teakwood thai style accom. is a little small and dark inside. the other bungalow style cabins are bigger and much lighter. overall would recommend to anyone.

Beachfront quiet and relaxing”
We had a wonderful stay at BanThai SangThian. This section of beach from the hotel down to Candlelight beach and the small wooden pier there is gorgeous, quiet and relaxing. The hotel is average overall, but you can't beat the location.

simple Thai style hotel near beach on Koh Samet”
We just wanted a simple place to stay for a few nights on Koh samet away from all the night life on the beaches farther north and Banthai met our needs but I was traveling with Thais and it was the sort of hotel they were used to. Banthai Sangthian is a very simple, small hotel with no services but acceptable. It is Thai style so do not expect comfortable beds. No restaurant but many nearby. Beach very small with many rocks but can walk 100 meters farther south to a nicer beach, though still small but more sandy. Room clean but cramped (we got the triple). Staff generally nice but non-obtrusive. Seems to be a small family run affair. Mosquitos and sand flies very bad with many bites if sit outside in the evening. Wireless internet available but slow and did not always connect from room so had to walk down to the reception area where they have some nice tables you can sit at to use.

Lovely hotel w/home feel and service with a smile”
The feeling was so Great at Banthai Sangthian. The rooms are not gorgeous decorated but will give you a simple but comfortable, and home like feel. The staff are sweet, very helpful and pretty decent. The hotel where it locates provides a quiet environment that bring you close to the natural. We wish we could stay there for more days!

Lovely Lana style house with nice shower and basin”
I booked to go to Koh Samet at the last minute, most places we're full as it was a holiday weekend so I was not expecting too much from a place that still had vacancies. How wrong I was. The owner greeted me with a nice welcome and I was shown to my room, a semi detached wooden bungalow built in traditional Thai Lana style with a lovely glass shower and wash basin, full aircon and fridge. There were three single beds in the room, which I would find cramped of three people were staying, but for singles or a couple it is ideal. There is no breakfast provided and no on site restaurant but there are four good eateries only a short walk away. Imdid not have much of a sea view, again due to last minute booking, but most of the other rooms face east overlooking the bay. The boat dropped me off at the next bay and I had to walk through the forest for about ten minutes to get to the resort, again not a hardship. Koh Samet is quite expensive compared to many parts of Thailand as everything has to be ferried in and it is also the nearest island resort to Bangkok so can get busy at certain times, but by the Monday I virtually had the beach to myself.

Secluded and private beach just in front”
After a 2 days of partying in Bangkok I needed a little break before going to meet up with a friend in Pattaya and the Santhai Sangthian gave me just what I needed. Ao Thian beach is a laid back jewel much quieter than Samet's beaches to the north. What I really liked was the location, just in front of a quiet little patch of and partly covered with shady trees where you are able to place a couple of chairs and a table, read a book, watch the ocean and take occasional dips in the water. Few hammocks are available as well. Rooms in Thai wooden style are a bit on the smallish side a but clean and decent. If you don´t mind spending a little bit more money (somewhere around 2000 THB/night) than for other accommodations on Samet and like the secluded area this is really a good choice.

Comfortable but basic.better for less nearby”
Stayed for 2 nights over Easter. Peak season so almost all other hotels booked. No twin beds available so had a family room. Decent size but no cupboards so everything had to stay in bags or suitcases. The room was clean and tidy. Provided with a fridge and water. Soap provided but no shampoo. These things can be bought at the mini-mart 50 metres away. They did clean the room but got the feeling it was only because we asked. Some staff spoke a little English, others spoke none. All very friendly and helpful. Considering the price we paid I was surprised to see twin rooms at more luxurious hotels much cheaper. However that was most likely for people turning up. Going to Koh Samet without a booking is risky in peak season. Would stay again but only for a short break. Wouldn't recommend for a romantic trip due to basic facilities but good for groups or young travellers.

A great, quiet little island resort”
the resort is secluded enough to feel "away from it all" but the walk over a hill to a more developed section of koh samet gives one the option of more nightlife if desired

Close to the surf, ocean, quiet and peaceful.”
We checked in around 9pm after catching a late night speed boat ferry to the nearby beach. It was hard to find the hotel because the lighting at night was not very bright. Once we got checked in it was a bit of a paradise from being steps away from beautiful, soft sand and amazing snorkeling boat tours. We ended up renting a bike from the beach on northern koh samet (sai kow beach) wher we biked the island for the next few days. Beautiful island and a reasonable price for our modest accomodations. The hotel was very primetive compared to modern hotel standards, but for a backpacker like myself it had everything you needed including internet and a/c .!!

Great place to get away”
Just a short boat ride to the resort and we found a small semi-private beach in front of the hotel. Though the resort only offered snacks, there were places to eat on either side of the hotel. There were no peddlers to harass you to buy something or street walkers to try to solicite you, just beach water and sunshine. Don't forget to make the short walk up the hill to watch the sunset over the ocean, I took some spectacular photos there!

Good location”
We arrived by car, first impression bad, we came from the backside of the hotel. We thought about leaving, it looked like a dump. If you arrive by boat you will get an excellent and unbeatable impression. We stayed in a triple room which was on first floor. The upstairs rooms are nicer, we tried to change, but it was fullybooked. Cockroach in shower. Terrible noice from guests upstairs, which is another reason to stay on the second floor. No restaurant at the hotel, however no problem at all. There are about 5-10 restaurants nearby. Viking resort (nextdoor) has great food and good service. In general the food at Koh Samet was not as good as food i.e Koh Chang and Bangkok. The resort has one of the best, none crowded, none exploited parts of the island. Recommendable if going to Koh Samet.

Good Hotel for short stay”
Koh Samet has National park on one side and hotels on the beach the other side... Approach to most of the hotels is challenge in the island as there is only one main road and the rest are mud or pebble roads as in any National Park, so was the case with this hotel... Food for Vegetarians and Vegans if difficult anywhere in Thailand hence we had parcelled "Ready to Eat" and Bread n Jam... Food was an issue at this Hotel as well... However, as the Hotel opens to beach, you can play or swim in water as long as you want... That is the best part of the hotel...

Long weekend stay”
The hotel is quiet far from the main pier in Samet island, hence it is quiet a ride to find food in close proximity. When we arrived, the air conditioner was not working but the staff managed to fix it when we get back after travelling around in the island. Also do not rely on the wifi as if the hotel is full, the wifi is really slow. Other than that, the stay was just fine for the price we spent on.
