Convenient Quiet Location, Idyllic Pool in Gardens”
i have now stayed at least three times at basaga holiday residences-in three different room types / rates and all have been more than satisfactory.its not so easy to find the hotel at first... hidden in a laneway off busy jalan tabuan a short drive into cbd kuching or a lazy stroll to the shoppers' paradise which is the spring.the staff at basaga are very friendly helpful and efficient.nothing is too much trouble.there is a choice of room types and rates and my favourite is an upstairs room off the balcony which overlooks the pool.these spacious bright and always spotlessly clean rooms, have french doors to the balcony plus windows at the rear of the double bedroom and the shower room with wc.air conditioning and fans are in most rooms plus tv etc. downstairs and opening out to the pool area are rooms which have same amenities and a similar floor plan breakfast is included and although not a lot of choice is always fresh and tasty, especially the hot strong coffee and the vegetarian omelettes cooked at your request.if you prefer a quiet room then the downstairs courtyard room is for you- smaller but with an inside wc and an outside shower off your own private courtyard. basaga is certainly value for money whatever your currency !

Need Greens, need Comfort, try Besaga Resident”
This Christamas, we decided to drive from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah into Kuching, Sarawak. Besaga Resident Hotel was again mentioned I decided to take the chance of booking our 5 full nights for our visit to Kuching instead of Borneo Coffee Homestay. I live for nostalgia value, and was pleased to learnt the story of the resident origin and the hotel name origins "Besaga"!! Besaga Resident Hotel provides an environment with greens (minus the mosquitoes), calm, and relaxation with a small pool for shallow deeping with lovely wooden deck surrounded shrubs and shaded by the besaga trees. The restaurant comes with good western food and snack in the afternoon or for happy hours (we have our Christmas Eve dinner at the courtyard with our 5 adults guest and a 2 months old baby) the evening was beautiful without loud techno music the frighten the baby. The beauty is that we does not need to go out of the hotel if one just wanted to relax and take it easy and relax either by the pool or restaurant area to read a book etc. But nevertheless, Besaga Resident Hotel is only 5-10 minutes to the airport, Kuching city center or to Spring Mall. The Besaga Resident hotel is well centralise but the most important part is it has a good restaurant, it provides calm relaxation clean environment from an old school building, and for the price (that I paid) is far worth for its value for money!!! My room comes with breakfast and the best thoughts of nostalgia it brings me back to my memories of Pelabuhan Ratu down south of Java during my 6 years in Jakarta. I highly recommend this place to anyone traveling with family. It's clean, cool, calm and beautiful. I hope they keep up the place. Only draw back the wifi, slow.

Friendly & relaxing”
Basaga is only a year or so old as a hotel, it was originally a doctor's house and later extended to a school. It has been very tastefully converted to a hotel, the rooms are newly renovated but with original wood floors. All have air conditioning - essential for Sarawak which has 2 seasons - wet & wetter. The staff are extremely helpful with Brendan the on site manager available 24 hours. It is located a short distance from "downtown" Kuching and sits back off the main road to be quite secluded. Taxi to town is RM 12 (less than $5 Aus)it could be walkable but not in Sarawak heat and humidity. There is a pool and a bar / restaurant which serves both local and western food. The local food for us was most tasty and far better value (about 8 Ringit = under $4 Aus) - the Laksa and the Mee Mamman was great. The restaurant is popular with locals and guests alike. Rooms have kettle for tea / coffee making and although we were told the local water in Kuching is good quality there is a daily supply of bottled water. Free WiFi and a free Internet PC in reception for guests. Pool side rooms have showers as part of the room whereas garden/courtyard rooms have a shower outside in an enclosure in the room's private courtyard. The staff realise this is a bit "unusual" and (subject to availability) will show you each type of room on arrival and let you switch if you want. We will definitely stay there again - when we next visit Kuching - lots more to see.

Fantastic love every minute of it ”
Very homely environment, the staff are very helpful and full of knowledge. We planned our tours through the hotel and got to see the Orangutangs and heaps of proboscis monkeys very close up. Kuching has so much more to offer that KK and tours are so easy to access. You get up so close to the Orangutangs in a natural setting. Our day trips were all done through the hotel .Would highly recommend Basaga holiday residence to friends and family and we would stay there again.

Great little hotel on the outskirts of Kuching”
I visited Kuching with my fiance at the end of December 2012 and stayed at Basaga Holiday Residences for 3 nights. This great little hotel really took us by surprise. Considering the affordable room rates, our expectations where not outrageous. However, once we got there, we realised that you get so much more than what you pay for; it really is a bargain. Everything from the Lobby to the restaurant and the rooms is tastefully decorated. The hotel itself is located among lush greenery with shady trees all around. The staff were friendly. The room we got was spacious, with the door opening out to a small swimming pool. The breakfast, which was included, was great with a choice of omelettes/scrambled eggs/pancakes with sausages, as well as juice and coffee. We had dinner at the restaurant on night and the food was tasty, and reasonably priced too, especially considering the large portions. My only gripe is that, with all the shady trees around, the pool tends to collect leaves which should be cleaned out more than once a day. Other than that, no complaints whatsoever.

Lovely hotel in beautiful relaxing grounds”
Basaga is a very pleasant small hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, particularly the beds, and are decorated in a simple but stylish way. Air-con and showers function well, large flat-screen TV though no fridge. The only drawback to the room was that the range of channels on the TV was rather limited - only fashion TV and a strange Korean channel in addition to the Malaysian channels. Although central to Kuching, Basaga is not particularly near anywhere apart from the Spring shopping centre and is not particularly well served by public transport so you will need to book taxis, However, the gardens and surroundings at the hotel itself are very pleasant and tranquil with the a pleasant small pool and a restaurant bar area surrounded by trees and shrubs and with pleasant flowing water. The staff at the hotel, bar and restaurant are friendly and helpful and the food served at the restaurant is very good and reasonably priced.

Relaxing Getaway right in the middle of town~”
I had a wonderful 4 days 3 nights stay at Basaga Holiday Residence. Seriously, i didnt mind anything else except that the kitchen doesnt open til 430 in the afternoon for dinner (except from 730 to 930am for breakfast), they currently do not serve lunch. Other than that, my stay was very relaxing, the bed was so comfy and really extra soft. I enjoyed that the room was equipped with a flat screen tv (some satellite channels) and you could rent a dvd player if you wanted to (extra charge of rm10 per day), airconditioned, ceiling fan, a rack for your clothings, tea, coffee and bottled water for you every morning. There was that one time that the shower had no water running and i had to wait for an hour till the water got back on. I rang the front desk and they were kind enough to assist me immediately. The problem was maybe caused by a slight low pressure and most probably everyone was using it at the same time? I didnt mind the location because you could rent a car and move on from the hotel, its not far from central town and nearby shopping complexes (the Spring, Parkson, etc) but rather far from sight-seeing spots (Santubong mount, orang utans and so on). You will be expecting crowds during the nite because people would usually come to dine here. Other than that, the stay was tremendously great for me and im sure i'll be staying there again, soon! :)

Delightful Kuching Guesthouse”
I really enjoyed my stay at the Basaga Holiday Residences and was very sad to leave! Many thanks to Brandon who organised two trips for me and made my stay particularly special. He was went out of his way to be kind and helpful and as I was staying at the guesthouse by myself this was very much appreciated. I would highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone wishing to visit Kuching.

Jungle setting in the city”
The Basaga Holiday Residences are in a beautiful jungle setting at just a short ride from the city center and the airport. At a reasonable price you can enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay. There is some room for improvements: The private courtyards need some attention, the buffet breakfast is cold and not fresh if you arrive late and the WiFi signal is not that good, especially in the courtyard rooms. But those are minor issues and I had a pleasant stay that I extended several times.

Great relaxing space to stay”
Basaga Holiday Residences is a great realaxing and welcoming place to stay while in Kuching. A little way out from the centre it is still useful for sightseeing from and the staff were all friendly. Great ambience and with a lovely pool, the breakfasts were great also. Highly recommended Nick from Cambridge, UK

Lovely hotel, great service”
I live in KL but my girlfriend is currently stationed in Kuching so I travel quite often and since I discovered Basaga for the first time around 2 years ago, I stay there every time I go to Kuching. It's a great place, a former barracks and school converted into a lovely low-rise, country-type hotel with very nice bar & restaurant + a lovely small swimming pool. I like everything about this hotel and I have some great memories from there. One con I noticed recently is the quality of their WiFi which has been OK till some months ago. I had trouble accessing it and browsing during my last 2 stays in the hotel.

Serenity withing the City”
This is my third stay in Basaga and it has never failed me, my family or my friends. I would definitely recommend Basaga to those who enjoy the serene ambience within the city. Its location is the centre of almost all the National Parks I visited in Kuching and is less than a 20-minute ride to the city or Waterfront. After a long day out, Basaga is definitely the one place you'd wanna come back to. It gives you the perfect end to every one of your days.

Kuching gem!”
Basaga is a lovely, homely, welcoming place to retreat to after a busy day in Kuching. From airport pickup until our final day, our stay here was perfect. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable. The meals in the restaurant were delicious (we ate in each night during our three day stay). I have no hesitation in recommending Basaga to all, and will stay there again when in Kuching.

Big room with peaceful ambiance”
Basaga is a place for those who wants to stay at a place something different from a hotel. It is more like a guest house with personal treatment. The ambiance and decor very much blended with the local environment. I stay at main house and the room was very big. However, the toilet was very small even for a small size Asian guy like me. The TV channels also very little (only 6 channels), unless you spend most of the time outside the room this won't bother at all. At night, more local crowd will be coming down to Basaga to have dinner or chill out at the bar. A bit too far to walk to the city center but taxi ride will take only a few minutes. Overall, it was a great trip to Kuching and will be coming back for Rainforest Music Festival next year. Hope, I will be able to book a room at Basaga again.

Fantastic spa type hotel in a beautiful setting”
We had a wonderful stay at the Basaga- arriving late at night to be greeted in a courteous and friendly manner. Our room overlooked the pool and was set in an almost 'jungle-like' setting. The location was an oasis where you could thoroughly unwind whilst being a short taxi ride away from Kuching (cost £2). You could walk (about 25 mins). The room was very comfortable and clean and had a better TV than ours at home! The food at the hotel's restaurant was very tasty and good value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They contacted a local guide, who proved to be fantastic and was with us for all 3 days of our trips. We visited the Bako National Park (seeing probiscus monkeys and soft shelled turtle) also Seronggi Nature Reserve - where we observed 14 orangutangs in total!! The Cultural village is also a must see. We would definitely go back to this hotel if staying in Borneo-it was great. A tiny criticism was the lack of a small fridge in our room (but in fairness even without the air-con on they were a pleasant temperature and never too hot.

Fantastic hotel.”
i love this place so much i returned to kuching again this year just to stay at the basaga. this has to be one of the nicest hotels i've ever stayed in. apparently it used to be school which was bought a few years ago and converted into an hotel. i went for one of the veranda rooms overlooking the pool. the room was huge with a lovely polished wood floor and was spotlessly clean. there is a kettle with tea and coffee, tv, ceiling fan and a/c, fridge and plenty of cupboards and drawers. the breakfast is all-you-can-eat with a wonderful choice of fruits, cereals, eggs, sausage, hash browns, etc. and endless coffee and juice. the outside restaurant/bar area is magical at night and this year a covered area has been built for when it rains. it is a half hour walk to the centre of town which didn't bother me but there are plenty of taxi's. a pint of beer there is quite expensive at 17mr (£3.50) will probably be back again next year.

Had a fabulous 5 nights”
room had a ceiling fan along with an airconditioner; great for those who enjoy sleeping without airconditioning breakfast was self-service buffet style, when it was busy enough; otherwise a choice of continental or a local breakfast (yummy noodles) staff will go out of their way to help answer any questions you may have Taxi to or from town from 10 ringgt ( basic fare) to 12; a little extra if Basaga calls a taxi for you. The ride is about 10 minutes. Easy to get a taxi on the way back by going to any Waterfront area hotel where the taxis wait You can walk down to town in about 25 minutes and maybe a little more to walk up; the paths are not great with large holes where the storm drain covers have broken, so don't try this after dark ( or with a baby buggy). The traffic can also be heavy, plus there's little shade so it isn't really a pleasant walk; but it is a way of seeing a side of Kuching you don't see staying by the Waterfront. I stayed in the Mainhouse for 5 nights; comments include that the noise of the traffic was louder than expected, plus some noise wafts up from the bar/ restaurant downstairs. The floors are wood so if other guests "walk like elephants" if can be really loud. Problem can be solved by running the airconditioning fan on a high setting ( that took me 2 nights to figure out!)

Basaga Hotel in Kuching = Excellent”
Basaga hotel was an excellent experience in the middle of Kuching. It's far away from downtown but you can arrange everything in the front desk to book a taxi or whatever to go to the centre of the city. It's quite complicated to arrive to the hotel. So keep the telephone number to call it from the cab if you don't want to get lost. The best thing from this hotel is the manager who is all the time taking care of you and your trips around the area.
