Outstanding hotel in historic location”
A colleague (who had previously spent several years living in Manila) asked where we were going to spend our Christmas to New Year break. I replied that we were traveling to the Philippines, with the first day in Manila and we were staying 2 nights at the Bayleaf in Intramuros. My colleague responded that I would likely be dissapointed with the Manila portion of our trip and that "there are no good hotels in Intramuros"... he recommended I stay somewhere else like Makati. I am very glad that I ignored his counsel. While the Intramuros may not be as developed as some city historical centers it certainly fulfilled our expectations of getting the true sense of a city's past and regarding our accommodations, my colleague could not have been more wrong! I would not say the Bayleaf is glamorous or extravagently luxurious, but it is absolutely a fine hotel - we had 2 rooms that were more than adequate in every respect (well, maybe internet could have been better)... space, TV, comfort, amenities, all were there - maybe not the fanciest or plushest, but everything you need, kept in good order and clean. This is matched with staff service that is simply second to none - both in professionalism and friendliness. The breakfast buffet supplied with every room may not be lavish, but the quality and selection is great - both local and western fare fresh and well prepared. Lastly, the Bayleaf is well worth the visit just to dine or spend some time on their roof top restaurant / lounge; coupled with a phenominal view, superb service and great food you just have to experience it if you are in the Intramuros.
Wonderful staff, stunning rooftop”
My brother and I stayed at Bayleaf Intramuros Hotel for just one night as we needed to stay in Manila to catch a flight the next day. Not only is the hotel clean, charming and full of character, it is in a great location, full of history and lots to see. Best of all though was the staff. Upon my arrival, I found out that I had accidentally booked a room for the wrong day (wrong month, actually). As I panicked and started to inquire about nearby hotels, the staff alleviated my stress by contacting the manager to ask if they could accommodate me, as it was an honest mistake on my part. Not only did they help me out, they upgraded my room and threw in free breakfast for the following morning. I was deeply thankful. The hotel, the staff, the manager -- all around classy! I would definitely return to Bayleaf again. I didn't know about the stunning rooftop until I checked it out during breakfast (which was delicious!), and I imagine it would be a great hang out spot at night. Spacious, lots of seating, rooftop bar, and incredible views.
Excellent hotel in a quiet, historic enclave”
This hotel is located in the district called 'Intramuros'. This is a very old section of the Manila metropolitan area. There is an old fort, along with a historic area all around. The Bayleaf is in the midst of this retreat from the cement, bustle, hustle, and hazy air conditions the busy areas of Manila. If one needs to attend events or meetings in the Makati area, then Intramuros is not the place to stay. But if your stay in Manila is not about business, and you're not needing the loud bar night scene, then this is a wonderful district, and a terrific hotel. The restaurant on the 9th floor, is called '9 Spoons', with a very nice menu and attentive staff. The morning breakfast was of excellent quality, albeit restricted in choice. The fresh fruit was of particular note for it's taste and ripeness. The view from the windows is lovely, and peaceful. With the high rise business districts at a distance, it is a nice view to take in various skyline shapes of greater Manila. I've stayed in Manila numerous times, usually in transit to other places in the country, and had always been glad to get out of the city as fast as possible. Finally, I've found a section of the city where it would be nice to spend a few quiet days enjoying the ambiance, in a hotel of exceptional service, and quality presentation. This area is not accessible from the airport via any of the raised highways. This means one needs to take into consideration the usual congested traffic of a major Asian city, when needing to make an appointment or flight check in. For business travelers, if you've a tight schedule, with several appointments in any of the business districts, then this may not be the place to choose. However, if you've got a lighter schedule, then this location is great, in particular if you like the quiet and relaxed speed of life once outside the office. I noted that the restaurant in the evening was definitely suitable for romantic dinners, or quiet meals with friends. As with any big ci
A To-Go-To For a Weekend Chill”
Bayleaf Intramuros Hotel definitely made a good impression as soon as we checked-in. They surprisingly upgraded our room with a great view. Their staff especially at their restos are accommodating and attentive. They have restos within the building that would suit your mood too. If you fancy to chill and have that great ambience, they have SkyDeck Bar which will give you a superb unobstructed view of Manila coupled with great music. The weather was perfect when I was there and got to see the beautiful sunset as I enjoyed my cocktail which was so relaxing. One can head to their Coffee Shop after wandering around Intramuros as well. I just hope that they will offer Spa services that will be perfect after touring around Manila for tourists and locals.
Wonderful Wedding Hotel”
Getting married in Intramuros at San Agustin Church as we were, Bayleaf provided a perfect mix of luxury, location, and affordability we hoped to find. The staff are top notch - always smiling and looking for ways to help - even going out of their way on a couple occasions. The rooms are clean and the hotel and sky bar are very classy. Breakfast is delicious with much variety between local Filipino and American fare. The only two minor complaints: - No gym: With the heat, traffic, and pollution, it is not easy to get a workout in Manila. This might be a showstopper should we return back to Intramuros. - Sloppy drink orders: Of all the things we experienced, the rare and most surprising issue came courtesy of breakfast. Upon seating, they ask if you would like tea or coffee to drink. This order was messed up multiple times during our stay (once they gave 2 coffees when 1 each of coffee and tea were requested; the other they failed to give hot water after 3 separate requests over a 10 min period). All in all, if a gym is not needed, then I would highly recommend Bayleaf for others in a similar situation. We ended up with nearly 10 rooms and all in our party seemed happy.
New hotel with the potential of making it big”
for our first year wedding anniversary, my wife decided to book us a hotel in intramuros so that we can tour around the place and get to know our country's history a little better. we went around fort santiago first before checking in the hotel. when we got to bayleaf, we were greeted warmly by the courteous staff and were brought to our room after signing at the front desk. the room was big enough for a two people. there was a complimentary bottled water and instant coffee. i love the view of our hotel as it overlooks the manila city hall and the golf course in intramuros. the linen smelled good and everything else was tidy. i think the best thing about the hotel is the staff who were very helpful. when we were about to go out for dinner, one of the hotel attendants overheard us talking about it and offered to get a cab for us. and whenever they saw us, they always greeted us with a smile. the only downside is that the wifi was slow. i couldnt een connect to the internet. but we didnt ask for help about it, though we know they'd gladly sort the technical problem out. all in all, our stay was awesome and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay when getting around intramuros.
A home away from home”
i commend the staff of Bayleaf Intramuros for the service and hospitality. Even the Reservations team was so helpful and accommodating when I spoke to them on the phone to make some revisions to my booking. I have been to few hotels before where I was kind of given a "cold shoulder" treatment, but Bayleaf Intramuros staff never made us feel that way. I was very happy because my request for an early check-in was granted. Location is very good, as my family and I were able to explore Intramuros. Only comment is that I hope they will add a just even a small table inside the bathrooms to put guests' stuff on, and more lighting inside the room. Overall, I am greatly satisfied with our stay and we will definitely come back again.
I couldn't be happier with my stay at the Bayleaf Hotel. I stayed for one week during the rainy season in between two typhoons. The staff was very helpful - even when I needed a trip to the doctor, the manager arranged for one of her staff to accompany me. The breakfast buffet was a nice added bonus (included with the room) - mixed fare, fresh omelettes, fruit, sweet breads, rice and pork/fish/chicken as a main dish. I was happy to learn that one or two of the chefs were graduates of the culinary institue in Manila. I also appreciated the location of the hotel - right inside Intramuros, just a walk to SM Mall of Manila (Mall of ASIA was a short cab ride), Malate, Binondo (Chinatown), and basically any place was a short cab ride away, even with traffic. I had no problems booking a second room when friends came from out of town. And the staff really was exceptional in their service - from room cleaning, to laundry, to calling for cabs, to recommending places to eat and where to go out. I have nothing negative, although if they had a workout facility, it would have been perfect. That's all though. Rooms were very comfortable, even if on the slightly smaller side. I would definitely recommend this place, and will go back next time I am in Manila.
Great for Exploring Old Manila”
If you want a base to explore the old city of Manila, you cannot go wrong with the Bayleaf Hotel. In front of the hotel entrance is a ramp going up the old fortifications of Intramuros (Old colonial-era Manila). The other points of interest within Intramuros are also a few minutes walk from the hotel. The National Museum building can also be accessed easily either by car or about 15 minutes walking. The other districts of old Manila like Ermita (restaurants), Escolta (pre-war CBD) and Chinatown (affordable shopping) could be reached by car. It is location, location, location for this hotel. The staff and facilities are also up to a high standard.
Great hotel in-the-making”
having stayed at the miramar hotel a month earlier, i was very pleasantly surprised at the simple elegance and quality of the bayleaf. unlike many buildings in the philippines, the bayleaf's air conditioning was nice and cool, keeping humidity to a minimum. bayleaf staff was very responsive, courteous, and friendly, responding to every request and need with speed and magnanimity. only two things were noticeably lacking: 1) facial tissue in the main room and comfort room; and, 2) two room card-keys, in case two people staying in a single room might have two different destinations, and possibly return at different times. otherwise, there was very little to criticise: the "penthouse" dining room is elegantly simple, with a truly lovely, relaxing view of the intramuros section of manila; and the manner(s) and courtesy of staff impeccable!
Excellent value, great food”
We stayed at the BIH for a few nights before heading out to Coron. Our room was small but very quiet and clean, with a safe, very comfortable bed and pillows and a floor-to-ceiling window over the Muralla (Old City Wall) and the golf course. The bathroom had a large shower room and lots of hot water. Every morning we would get a complimentary newspaper. We had not anticipated how much we would enjoy the food: the buffet breakfast offered a vast array of options, from custom-order eggs to pastries, lots of fruits, yogurt and cereals, as well as salads and several Filipino meat and fish dishes, our favorite being the Arroz Caldo, a creamy rice in chicken broth with crispy garlic chips and a squeeze of calamansi lime. Delish! With a breakfast like that we were ready to set off and explore Intramuros with its old buildings, as well as the National Museum, which is just a few steps outside the Old City Walls. We particularly recommend the building that houses the Museum of the Filipino People, with great exhibits of tribal textiles and crafts. At about 5 pm we would head to the Bayleaf Intramuros' rooftop restaurant for cocktails and chili calamari while watching the spectacular sunsets over the water, followed by dinner in one of the other restaurants. We felt no need to go anywhere else for our meals as everything we tried was well prepared and presented. The staff was invariably attentive and pro-actively helpful. Altogether a very pleasant stay. Highly recommended.
One of the best hotels in Manila”
I always visit The Bayleaf hotel whenever I'm in Manila. It is one of the best hotels in Manila. I know it's always a matter of personal taste but I especially like The Bayleaf because of: - The Location. It's located inside the old city walls of Manila. This is the place where you would want to go anyway if you're visiting Manila for the first time. The area has all the nice little streets with small cafes and restaurant. It has some old nice churches to look at, a big mall for shopping and the Rizal Park close to. Perfect location! - The staff. They make up more than half the experience. The service and the friendliness is way above average and they will remember you if you return again, even a year later. Thanks to all the staff and a special thanks to the receptionist Kim for all the help and good advice! - And of course because of the roof top restaurant with live music and overview of the entire city. To balance the review I should mention one thing on the negative side. Because it's so famous many people choose to celebrate weddings there and company christmas parties etc. If you're there at the same time it can be a bit chaotic.
Excellent hotel in the heart of Intramuros”
Nestled in the heart of intramuros, The Bayleaf hotel is an excellent place to stay for locals and foreigners alike. We were greeted by the Friendly and dedicated staff, In particular, Ms Kim Torres who went out of her way to make us feel welcome and assist us in getting the most out of our stay and Making it all the more memorable. Thank you Kim. We'd definitely visit the Bayleaf again upon our return to Manila. We feel that it provides very good value for money and we'd recommend to anyone looking to travel to Manila and be within sight of The historical heart of this incredible city.
Best of the best!”
I've stayed at many hotels in the Philippines and in Manila but without a doubt, the Bayleaf was the best so far. The best food I've eaten at any restaurant in the 6 years I lived in Asia, never a bad meal. If you want to enjoy fine dining at its best, except no substitutes, stay at the Bayleaf. This maybe the best kept secret in Manila. The staff is vert well trained, and courteous to a fault. Always smiling and eager to please no matter what the request. The rooms though small, are very clean and well maintained. Most hotels offer wireless Internet and it's hit and miss. Not at the Bayleaf. The Internet was fast and reliable, no down time and regardless of the time of day, it rocked! The Bayleaf will be my hotel of choice whenever I have to travel in Manila. Best of the best!
Great new hotel in the old town”
We had a great stay at the Bayleaf. Intramuros is a bit far from some Manila attractions, but it is a very nice location and the rooftop bar and restaurant is great. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I would not hesitate to go back, and cannot recommend this hotel enough for anyone who does not mind being a little further away from the nightlife or the hustle and bustle of other parts of Manila. Again, the rooftop bar is great - the view is fantastic!
Nice new hotel with very friendly staff”
Initially, the taxi driver from the Manila Airport did not know The Bayleaf. He took us to the area and with some local help, we found it quickly. The issue was that the hotel only opened in November 2011. We very much liked this hotel. The location puts you in the heart of Intramuros. The rooms are a bit small and we found some very small finishing touches in our room needed attention. However, we found the hotel bright, new and clean. We also ate a very good breakfast on the top floor restaurant.
An oasis in Manila ”
As it is located inside the walls of Intramuros and near the golf course, it is a quiet location in the middle of the Manila chaos. The rooftop patio restaurant was very nice in the evenings. The morning breakfast buffet served in the 9 Spoons was really good with an appealing variety of quality food. The staff is amazing. After our initial 2 nights at Bayleaf when we arrived in the Philippines we booked 2 other stays during our month long vacation. If I'm ever back in Manila this will be my place to stay. Thanks Bayleaf
Best place to stay in Manila”
Location is excellent. The hotel is nestled within Intramuros, perfect for people who would like to see a glimpse of the "Spanish" side of Manila as a tourist, or even as a local. The building is located beside a golf course, which serves a great view when you look out your window. At night, you can enjoy the city view from their resto bar at their rooftop -- Sky Deck. It's the highlight of our stay. Enjoy the night away as you listen to some chill music and cool drinks. We enjoyed a bottle of Moscato and some Mojito on separate nights. Breakfast buffet on the first day was so-so, but it was great the next day that fell on a Sunday. Loved the arroz caldo, lomi, bacon, tapa and daing na bangus. Staff were attentive and friendly. Thanks Bayleaf, we've enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend :)
Great location and very nice staff”
We can recommend Bayleaf Intramuros. The location is perfect. It is quite and at the same time gives you easy access to main areas in Manila. The breakfast is served in the "penthouse" with an amazing view. The only disappointment was the Sky Deck -- it feels fancy, has a nice music and great view, but somehow it is completely devoid of this nice Intramuros ambiance.
amazing hotel in manilla intramuros”
what to say about the bayleaf hotel ? with my friend we stayed for twice three days in 2012may, and the answer is that its perfect in all the ways. the sight from the room’s window is amazing, on the old remparts of st fernando fortress with the golf’s green behind, its an enjoyment for the eyes morning and evening. by the way, the rooms are very good, very clean with pretty good large bed, nice large bathroom with an italian shower and all you can need, everything you want is in the room. the breakfast is good too, with a lot of things to eat, the cofee is real one, very good, and everydays the cook improvise some nice new hot stuffs, philippan or not, with a very good personnal knack. all that, with the incredible sight from the 9th floor of this big lounge makes the begining of the day a great moment. cherry on the cake, a pretty smiling person cooks your eggs perfectly and exactly like you want. above this restaurant room wich is breakfast one too, you have the top restaurant outdoors, with all the manilla light the evening, pure enjoyment. prices are a little bit high for manilla, but here too you find the very nice own cooking style of the “chef”, and its a pleasure for the taste. for instance, i ate a sauteed beef with muchrooms and little poatatoes, really amazing, and, its stupid to say, but maybe the best hamburger of all my life(maybe with not enough potatoes...). an last thing, i want to say about the reception team that they are very available, kind and smiling, i remember especialy the name of jo, chester, jenny, jennifer and melissa, they were so kind and helpfull, like all the reception anyway, but i cant remember all the names. peoples of the door for luggages, call of taxis etc. make also everything they can. conclusion is that bayleaf hotel is a very very good one, i know that next time ill be in manilla its gonna be my stay place.
