nice people, nice view, good food”
Not worth $100/night... maybe $30”
Belinda Beach is terribly run down and not worth the expense. In Cambodia, $100/night gets you a premium hotel experience. Instead, we had no power for 2 nights and the 3rd night we had to move to a room that had power but no water (an disappointment given that air-conditioning was a major reason we had chosen the hotel). The pool was not useable and the lounge chairs literally broke beneath us. The "welcome drink" that you are offered upon arrival shows up on your final bill ($5 each!). The food, prepared by Benny, husband of Belinda, is delicious. Unfortunately, since Benny is both cook and repairman, his attempts to fix the power meant that we had to wait till 9:30pm for our dinner most nights. Aside from all of these problems, the most disappointing part of our stay at Belinda Beach was the terrible customer service response. We did not have a $100/night experience, and any decent hotel manager would have offered a discount. Instead, we were presented with a full bill with not even a hint of apology for the state of the hotel. It took half an hour of hard and unpleasant bargaining before we were even able to get a 30% discount. We are expats living long-term in Cambodia and we have stayed at pretty much every nice hotel in the country. I would urge anybody considering a stay at Belinda to look instead at 4 Rivers in Koh Kong, Veranda in Kep, Terres Rouges in Ratanakiri, Nature Lodge in Mondulkiri, La Villa in Battambang, Sambor Village in Kampong Thom, or a multitude of other great hotels in Cambodia as examples of places to stay with similar price points and infinitely better hotel experiences.
Nice bungalows with great view but over-priced”
We stayed there for two days and left Belinda resort with mixed feelings. On one side you have the exclusive location and great bungalows with private beach but on the other side the average service and the high price. The highlights are the modern bungalows with exceptional view. The beach is not bad as well, even though quite rocky. Getting to the resort or away is not that easy and you are basically on your own. The breakfast was good and more than sufficient, dinner or lunch we never tried but preferred to eat in the nearby village which was great. We were also looking forward to enjoy the infinity pool but unfortunately they had some problems with water supply. For modest guests like us it was not a big problem but at this price level it’s hard to believe or accept. One of the owners was friendly and helpful by introducing the island and the possible activities. The island itself is great, with several lonely beaches and good snorkeling (equipment available at the hotel for free). The most disturbing was actually the noise on a party organized by the owners. Until very late in the morning the karaoke machine was running at its maximum. During our stay there was actually just another family staying… so not sure who was actually celebrating the guests or the staff? Anyway if we would have been looking for disco atmosphere we would definitely not come to an island to actually escape the noise… Another interesting experience was after checking out as one of the local staff was harshly advised to check the mini-bar what he obviously forgot. Overall we partially enjoyed our stay but once again at such rates the expectations are usually higher.
