Operated under the prestigious Belmond, this all-teak mansion has been restored to its former glory. The former official residence of a governor, Belmond Governor's Residence sits surrounded by a lotus garden. Excellently placed within the city's Embassy Quarter, guests are close to cultural sites such as the Golden Pagoda and the vibrant Bogyoke Market. What makes it even better is that the hotel can arrange these excursions for guests, along with a private car and a guide. After a day of sightseeing, why not relax with a massage treatment or a quick dip in the fan shaped pool. All 49 exceptionally spacious hotel rooms and suites offer a seating area with a writing desk, large terrazzo bath, complimentary Wi-Fi, welcome fruit, and daily bottled offer. The hotel also has three dining venues in addition to 24-hour room service. Bask in the glory of a bygone era when you stay at Belmond Governor's Residence.

One of best stay in Yangon”

Rainy Season Price”
Always wanted to stay here for a Staycation . The rainy season price was good so thought I would give it a try . Room , lovely , Bath - probably the best bath in Yangon. TV very small and didnt work properly quite old , didnt matter as I was not watching TV very much . Pool entrance area was under renovation which meant as there were no steps into the pool I couldnt go in which was a shame as that was the main reason for my stay. Staff , fantastic , location great for romantics . Loved the beds so comfy, Breakfast , the Avocado with shan tomatoes just mouth watering . There was also a sparking wine for breakfast . On the Friday night there was a meet the staff cocktail party , again very well done and was nice to mingle with other guests and meet the key staff . Great Chef and Great Staff .

7 stars boutique hotel with outstanding management ”
There is no place like this one Feeling in heaven Ideal location to relax (and work) efficiently ! Manager is obviously a great professional reaching perfection which is so difficult to reach in Myanmar ! Finest design, including garden and amazing pool, plus finest cuisine too No need to say finest spa ....
Dear Francoise, Greeting from Belmond Governor's Residence. Thank you so much for your time and give feedback to us. Appreciated. We are very glad to hear that you had a wonderful time at our hotel. Wish you a great weekend and hope to see you again. Best regards Win Min, Hotel Manager
Superb attention to detail ”
Stayed here for 3 nights slightly apprehensive about reviews saying it was overpriced. It isn't. PROS: Excellent breakfast - huge range and fresh ingredients. You can sit outside in the garden too. Staff are extremely attentive bringing you water when at the pool side and also additional drinks at breakfast Excellent English spoken by most staff. All are friendly. The bar is expensive but no more so than what you would pay for any hotel booze. Managers check in on you and offer advice/order taxis for you. Kept luggage for us when we had a red eye to catch. Nice little touches - fruit and cakes brought to room once a day. Suncream and goggles provided poolside (brilliant idea). Lovely wildlife in the grounds (peacocks wandering) Yoga class on weekend mornings - free. Cigars provided at dinner (free) Excellent Wifi connection. CONS: Rooms on ground floor are very dark and you need to switch on a few lamps to see what you are doing. Neighbours can be heard easily when in your room.
Dear Daniel, Mingalabar! Thank you so much for taking your time to give us feedback. We are very glad to hear that you had a wonderful stay and enjoyed all our services and attention to details. Hope to see you again in near future. Best regards Win Min, Hotel Manager
We can not say enough nice things about this hotel. Did not want to ever leave. Luxurious, small boutique hotel w spacious lovely rooms. Staff is unbelievably accommodating. Restaurant food is amazing. Gorgeous pool. There is nothing better in Rangoon....
Superb Hotel Service”
Love this hotel and would visit again. The staff members are well trained and they gave us a detailed explanation to show us every corner of the hotel and all the important thing about the room. Since we went there during new year, the staff were able to let us know which restaurants were still open and even recommended a shop for my friend to buy longyi. The room was well furnished and spacious. The bath tub is wonderful for a relaxing bathe. There was a small shop and bakery inside the hotel and a cafe where you can get some board games to kill time. The choice of food at breakfast was wonderful. The attention to detail can be observed from the variety of the bakery, the salad bar and the drink options. There was a Thingyan water fest at 4pm during our stay. People have the water fight at a corner while enjoying the food and dessert provided by the hotel.
I think the title says it all. We were greeted and refreshed the moment we got out of the taxi. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a ground floor garden room. The room was beautiful, well thought out and was stocked with fresh coffee, fruit and every personal need you could have. The grounds and the hotel itself are stunning. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was some of the best we had in Myanmar. It was magical. I would definitely stay again.
Outstanding in this developing country”
Stayed here for a family trip with a 8 y.o. kid and 76 y.o. disabled parents. The presence of a pair of peacocks and other birds in the garden brought them lots of fun. The staff was sincere and friendly. Paid extra attention to the well-being of my disabled parents. Most of them spoke good English, except for the room service staff of midnight shift. The building and the facilities were old. If you like antique, it's a treasure. But if you enjoy everything hip, hi-tech and automatic, this one would not suit you. Pool was nicely surrounded by small forest but was a bit too deep for kids.
Beautiful hotel and comfortable room”
The rooms are beautiful and spacious with wood floors and large soaking bathtubs. The breakfast buffet is exceptional and the staff are very welcoming. The peacocks roaming the grounds are a nice addition! We will be back next time we are in Yangon.
Beautiful hotel with wonderful service”
The rooms and grounds are spectacular. The food was amazing especially the buffet breakfast and the a la carte Western dinner. The staff was very attentive and welcoming and the spa was also very nice though a bit expensive for Myanmar. We will definitely stay again!
Lovely hotel in gorgeous setting.”
We loved our stay. It is an incredibly pretty hotel. Pool area is lush--so nice in the heat. Room very atmospheric with mosquito netting. Very comfortable bed and bath with huge tub. Everything was rather perfect. Breakfast buffet is delicious. I'd like to live there:)
This was our second time back and hopefully not our last. This hotel is just about perfect and has to be one of the highlights of visiting Burma. It is not cheap, but it is definitely worth biting the bullet for a truly unforgettable experience.
Old world charm with a boutique hotel feel ”
Governors residence What can you say? This hotel offers old world charm with a very "boutique" feel to it. Yes there are more modern establishments in town with larger pools, lots of marble and mirrors in the lobby but, if you want excellent service and a great, understated colonial style retreat in the city then you have to go quite a distance to beat this. The main body of the hotel which incorporates the restaurants, shops and bars has been tastefully formed from the original governors house that was built in the 1920's. The gardens and ponds surrounding the property are incredibly lush and even have a resident pair of peacocks. The pool area is quiet and provides an excellent respite from the city. The rooms are housed in more modern blocks to the rear of the original building but have been seamlessly grafted on and feel as though they have always been there. An earlier reviewer mentioned that neighbours could be heard, which is true but the same can be said for any hotel and I can honestly say that it never became an issue for us. We dined at both restaurants and the food and service was excellent in both. A special mention has to be made of the buffet-style curry table, a must for any curry lover with a choice of around 10 different curries as well as a grill station serving prawns and assorted satays accompanied by unlimited draught beer and soft drinks! When you consider that the room rate includes without a doubt the best breakfast buffet in town and complimentary minibar it's no surprise that this hotel remains consistently the best place to stay in Yangon. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
Oasis in Yangon”
We chose to splurge for our final night in Myanmar after 11 beautiful but dusty and hot days traveling around the country. Boy were we glad we did! We arrived relaxed from several days in Inle Lake to the jolt of the city. When the car pulled into the drive at Governor's Residence we relaxed again. A warm and friendly greeting plus a gong to announce each new guest. We were shown to our rooms (ready despite arriving well before check in) and told that we should think of the hotel as our second home. And so we became homebodies for two days - leaving only briefly to visit Shwedagon Pagoda at sunset and have dinner at Monson. Otherwise, we spent two lazy days by the pool being pampered by the excellent staff of the hotel. It is slow season and just prior to Thingyan so we were lucky that the hotel afforded us late check outs (4pm) which was exceptionally generous. Eating and drinking here will definitely put a dent in your wallet! Beer is twice the price we paid anywhere else. After a $60 lunch for 3 of us we decided to eat in the city rather than at the hotel for dinner. The curry table is $42++ which just seemed ridiculous even at a 5 star hotel - this is still Burma. Breakfast, which is included, is wonderful with a wide variety of choices and excellent quality. The rooms are simple but elegant. The bed and linens top rate. The bathroom very nice - although the tub a bit strange. Guests were invited to a special ceremony on our second day where the staff of the hotel offered alms to the local monks in advance of Thingyan. It was lovely to watch. The grounds are beautiful and the pool is huge, clean and fantastic. Every time a leaf would drop, someone from the staff would be there to fish it out. If you just looked like you needed something, a staff member would appear with a smile.
Good hotel but far location”
I did booked this hotel for my dad staying there for 2 nights on his business trip. Overall he were satistify with hotel quality and service but mentioned the only drawback which is the hotel located a bit far from city centre.
Beautiful hotel with friendly and helpful staff”
The hotel is beautifully designed, as are the gardens, and both are very well maintained. The food was excellent too, and so too is the layout of the hotel, which offers a few different common areas for guests to relax in. The best feature, however, in my view, is the attitude of the staff who were all, without exception, always smiling and ready to assist with any problem. It is not set up as a business hotel, though wifi internet is available in the rooms and throughout the hotel, and there is also a small business centre.
Fine Hotel That Tries a Little Too Hard”
This nicely restored teak mansion is located in a quiet part of town and is surrounded by foreign embassies. It's billed as a luxury hotel, and that it is. We felt that it was a bit over formal and trying too hard to fit the luxury billing. On this trip we also stayed at both the Savoy (comfortable, low key and relaxed) and the Strand (beautifully restored with an attentive but non intrusive staff). If we return to Yangon we'll probably choose one of those. The only real negative about The Governor's Residence was the air conditioning. Neither our room nor the air conditioned public spaces ever seemed cool or dry enough. For the price one would expect more robust air conditioning.
Unreservedly still Governor's Residence as it was”
we had a wonderful and luxurious time at tgr yangon, which was complimented by the above good points as well as free-flowing fresh fruits and a square meal at the mandalay restaurant (which served burmese and western food of michelin standard with burnmese red and white wines!). great pool, very colonial buildings part of which date back to the 1920s and a fascinating art exhibition on the mezzanine open air lounge with live music every night. heaven on earth to the last letter. honest.
an oasis in Yangon”
This was the second time we stayed in the Governor´s Residence. We did not mention changes after the take-over by the Orient Express Group, so we were as pleased as we were the last time. The staff is smiles all over, the food is really great and brushing away all prejudices about Scottish chefs. Internet remains a problem, the advantage is that one is able to pay by credit card. Based on international standards a really good price/quality ratio. We´ll come again.
