        Friendliest staff and decent accommodation”

My friend and I stayed at the Benarat Lodge during our trip in Mulu. Overall, it was a decent lodging (think of Hostel style). Our guide, Duncan fetched us from the airport to the lodge which was situated quite deep within Mulu and around a 10 mins to 15 mins drive from the Mulu National Park. As the lodge was eco-friendly, the generators only run from 6:00pm to 12 midnight daily. The rest of the time the amenities such as Water Heater, Shower, Lights and Fan were solar-powered. The staff at the lodge were undeniably friendly and very accommodating despite not having any WIFI, unless you purchase the local SIM card. Our booking included meals from a nearby family-run restaurant next to the lodge. My friend and I wanted to purchase a bottle of water at the restaurant but it was closed for the evening and we decided to get the water the next day. However, the lodge's manager personally handed us the water at our rooms just a few minutes after we left the restaurant.

        Great Staff”

Benarat Lodge is a pretty and serene "homestay" on the river. The accommodation is clean, with everything you need (linen, towels, working bathroom) but is basic. For the air con rooms electricity through generator is only available 6pm-1am. However, the friendly and helpful staff outweigh any drawbacks this could present. They helped us with getting to and from Mulu National Park, held our additional luggage for us, and made us some good food after our long hikes! It is a little bit of a walk from the national park (30 minutes), but if you coordinate with the staff they were happy to give us lifts which was unexpected and so helpful! I do recommend this place, but just be aware of the distance from the park and the limited electricity.

        Authentic and cost village living”

There was no need to worry about airport transfer and tour timings. The manager knows the flights and tours available at the National Park inside out. The lodge is 20min walk away from the National Park, so it ensures that visitors are not restricted to the confines of the park. Food options in Mulu is limited, no surprise that the lodge have limited choice, but eating in peace is definite. The rooms provide the essentials, air conditioning is not a must during the night.

        Great place to stay”

We loved our stay at the Benarat! The room was basic but clean and the air con and fans worked well. We quite liked not having Wifi for a refreshing change and understood wifi is only available in the park or at the Marriott. Eddy was the go to guy, he set up our tours and drove us to/from the park and he was so cheerful and helpful! Desmond was our tour guide and was very knowledgeable and observant as I know we would have just walked past all the critters he pointed out. We're usually not "tour" people but they are required in the caves and we got so much more from our experience by having a guide like Desmond. Many thanks to both Eddy and Desmond for making our stay so enjoyable.

        Not worth the price”

Pretty primitive for the price we got, when better lodges or even hotels were available. Location isn't too close to the park so you will have to take a shuttle there, though it is located next to the river and a beautiful hill. On arrival, we were sold a "travel package" and had nothing to do on the first day, when we could've easily done some walks in the park. Don't take any package offers as it too is overpriced! The same offers are available directly from the park at half the price.

I was picked up at Mulu airport and brought to the park and picked up at the end of the each day,Eddy was a great host. The room was bare bone basic. So tired after a day of trecking in the jungle it didn't matter much. Mulu is remote, think they do the best they can considering the limited resources available.

The lodge is basic with no hot water and the air con and power is turned off during the day and late at night. Besides the fabulous sights the world has to offer, we also travel to experience the culture, food, and the people. Ray who helps run the lodge, even though he says he is a bartender only, is the go to person. When we were there, we had a tropical rain storm and the river overflowed its banks. We had no water for a shower, after a long day of trekking through the National park. Ray helped us fix the problem, looked after the lights that were not working on our deck, carried my bag across the flooded front yard when we were leaving and so many other little countless things, above and beyond the call of duty! Ray is a true ambassador for the wonderful people of Borneo!

Loved the place The hotel is a village compound style and in keeping with it's surroundings. Very rural. It was nearly empty when I stayed and the staff knocked themselves out to be helpful. They couldn't do enough for me. Definitely stay here again.

        Benarat”

Very friendly and competent staff. Great location along the river and surrounded by rainforest. Comfortable rooms and good food and drink service. The only disappointment was when the solar fan went off during the afternoon ( it had been rainy so there was an insufficient charge ).

Great stay with excellent, competent and friedly staff!”

We had an amazing stay! We were picked up from the airport even though our plane was delayed twice. Very helpful in arranging the transport and guides to the caves, canopy walk, night walk, caving! Always very prompt with driving us around. Can recommend this place to anyone and would gladly visit again! Nick

Beyond expectation with price I paid”

Advantages of staying hete include free airport and hotel transfer, nearly whole day electrical power operation, hot shower, aircondtioning nearly 24 hrs a day and green shady view by the river.Disadvantages are off normal track of public transportation, a bit pricey food in its restaurant.

        Reasonable Mulu Lodge”

Staff are great. Anil is a super tour organizer and general handyman/facilitator. Fan works all day but outlets and air con go only with the generator usually morning and evening. We enjoyed our stay very much and will probably return.

        Above average”

Nice place and confortable location, relatively close to the park. We didn't buy the package they proposed, and we were left almost out of their care. The lodge kitchen closed without any advice ( you are basically in the middle of nowhere!) and the last day they forgot to bring us to the airport...

Great but neutral at the same time”

The place no doubt was really beautiful..with the sound of nature surrounding you...some of the staff were friendly not all.The only downfall was that since electricity was limited..every 6pm to 4am we had electricity..after this hours it would be switched off..n its not really a good feeling especially when its humid in the afternoons...and dinner was a lil bit to the expensive side for a bed n breakfast.....a plate of nasi goreng with egg is rm15 which is the cheapest there....apart from this all was great...
