A great hotel at low prices”

Price, location in central Makati, service, kindness of the staff, free wifi

We booked there a stay of 7 days overlapping the beginning of the Holy Week in the Philippines. The room was large and well-furnished, with a full-size bathroom and bathtub but the room is very dimly lit despite the three to four lamps (a central lamp would be much more useful to enlighten the room, as our room faced the opposing hotel). The staff is very kind and helpful, but everything has a price: using the business center, for instance costs 130 PHP, prints are also tariffed. If you don't need to print anything, then you have free wifi in the rooms (very useful). A newspaper is provided free of charge in the morning, but don't get your hopes hiked: it is a Filipino newspaper with not much in the matter of interesting news for foreigners. Would have been better to provide an int'l financial newspaper (but I'm being picky). Finally there is a pool in the hotel, but I haven't tried it, so I'm unable to give an opinion on that. Not a lot of taxi drivers know the Berjaya in Manila, so a useful way to guide them along is to tell them to go to Ayala Triangle, then to follow Makati Avenue in direction of hotel St. Giles (eventually they'll see the sign of Berjaya to the left - or point it out to them). Big issue in Manila: taxi drivers trying to avoid the use of the meter. The transportation service to the hotel from the airport is slightly overpriced (950 PHP); it is better to take your chance with one of the airport taxis (insist on the meter!), as the road costs about 150 PHP with a metered taxi. Food is interesting but I would rather recommend the cocktails at the bar: those are done with real fruits instead of juices as in Europe.

    Best Western Astor”

Good location, well kept, good room service.
It sits in the middle of the redlight district

The Best Western was a nice and convenient hotel in Makati. The rooms were well kept and had a nice bathroom. The room service was nice. I was able to order a very tasty hamburger at 3 am and the price was very reasonable. It's location has it positives and negatives. The positives were that it was on a main street which provided for easy access to the jeepney transit systems (a must ride). There are also several nice restaurants that are opening up around it, as well as, the inexpensive fast food places. It sits in the heart of the Makati redlight district, which is a positive if that is what you are looking for, but is a negative as well, because (for men at least) as soon as you step out the door you are being solicited by a young woman, or young man dressed as a young woman (a ladyboy). It is only a 10 minute ride to the Greenbelt Mall which is straight up Makati Avenue. The Greenbelt is a nice mall with plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars. There is also another mall (whose name eludes me) that is within a 10 minute taxi ride from the hotel. In all, it was a nice hotel and one that I would have no problem returning to on my next trip to Manila (Makati).

    I LOVE THIS HOTEL”

I get to this hotel after done my business travel to suburbs or Phil. 1) I really love the nasi lemak and teh tarik at the cafe. Marvellous foods especially for Malaysian travelling and missing out the hometown foods. 2) Big spacious room. It is an old hotel, but at this price and good equipped hotel, this is more than adequate for me. 3) One of the lift is broken, but I have no problem with going up and down from my room to the lobby. 4) Quiet! this is very good although it is located in the center of makati ave. 5) I REALLY LOVE THE BREAKFAST!!! Say thank you to your chef! The mixture of Malaysia, Indian, Phil, and western foods really make me happy in the morning. 6) The band at night is awesome! relax and chill at the cafe is just great! okay.. will stop now or I will write non-stop about my great stay with Berjaya hotel. Thanks guys and please keep up the good work. Fix the small issue like the lift and greet us your customer with friendly smiles as you usually do. Cheers!

When traveling to Manila, I like to stay anywhere on Makati Ave. I've stayed at the Berjaya Hotel on two different occasions and both times I had a great experience there. The staff is nice and polite, the rooms are big and clean. Strong A/C and free WIFI is a plus. There are lots of restaurants open 24 hours in the area. Very Friendly, clean and well located 4 star hotel ”

Service was excellent and rooms were cleaned daily Staff were great especially the head door man.Would definitely recommend this hotel for the price when booking with agoda

having stayed in quite a number of hotels in manila before i was looking at the agoda site trying to find an appropriate hotel that fitted my needs, being that it had to be a least a 4 star establishment in a central area of makati within walking distance of all the better eating places and the the night life that makati has to offer, but even so if you are there with your family its still not too bad a place for them aswell.so i move onto value for money and must say if you book through agoda the you will find that it shapes up very well with the other simular hotels in the area.as far as the hotel was concerned was not dissapointed with much at all but as far as the staff was concerned i could not fault them in their service to their guests.the only negative experiences i had with them was that the food could be a little better (but was still better then most..i'am a very fussy eater)and i was told by the reception staff that a friend of mine that had called for me before i had checked in had not called.so my personal rating for this hotel would out of five would be a four(4)

i have stayed in 5 tar hotels for work here in manila for the paast 3 years in the makati area and I can say that although this hotel is not 5 star that for the money its the best deal in town and any single traveler should take it in aheart beat because they always say location location location. Plus all the reviews about rude staff, i never saw one bit of it and they were very helpful and even when the breakfast was cold the would reheat it if you liked. They were awsome and i will stay there again for sure. Best for single travler but families can work.

    Fantastic location

Spent 4 nights at Berjaya and could not fault it for the price. We stayed in a suite and the room was one of the biggest I've seen in a hotel in all my travels , at least 45 - 50 sqm. The location sets it off being in the middle of the main nightlife area of Makati with the huge Greenbelt/Glorietta complex only a five minute taxi ride straight down Makarti ave. The staff are very friendly and there's a great downstairs lounge area with live music at night for when you just want a peaceful relaxing evening. I would definitely stay at this hotel when I'm next in Manila.

Good old Berjaya Makati... Probably a grand-daddy of hotels in the hood, getting old, a/c motors humming the night away, lucky I don't mind noise while i sleep... but who sleeps at night in makati anyway...hahaha Great as always restaurant, coffee shop, nightly bands, outdoor area, abundant passing traffic (cars & people), A.Venue street market next door, Smoking rooms if you want one, all amenities just a stone throw away... A balcony or an opening window would be nice but really, it's ok for the money...

    Great value for money”

Excellent location, clean room and toilet, good value for money
Difficult to hail a taxi during peak hours

The location of the hotel is right in the centre of Makati where there were many fast food joints, restaurants, and drug stores. It is easily accessible but hailing a cab during the peak hours can be a little painful. The rooms are very clean and good value for money. We were on an assessment trip so it was good to come back to a nice room and hot shower at the end of the day.In spite of the busyness in the area, the rooms are very quiet although there is not much to see in terms of view from the rooms. There is a good bakery about 50 mtrs down the road from the hotel and a fruit stall at the intersection by the gas station. A 5-10 minute taxi drive would take you to Landmark, Glorietta and Kultura malls, as well as the Ayala Museum. The traffic along the main road can be crazy during the morning and evening peak hours but if you steer clear during those times or are on foot, it's not a big problem. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and would return to same hotel if we are in Manila again.

The room service manu offers a wide selection of food and beverages which are very well prepared. Furthermore the hotel has a swimming pool and the breakfast buffet is quite tasty too.

My Stay at Best Western Astor Makati”

free Internet, friendly staff, good location, nice restaurant
rooms inconsistent - some good and some bad, beds too firm, hotel car too expensive

I had a great stay at the Best Western Astor in Makati, and I would definitely stay again. However, on my third stay, I noticed that the rooms are very inconsistent. Some rooms are in good order - clean, well repaired, etc. Other rooms, however, have peeling wallpaper, worn bathrooms, and poor refrigerators. I also found out that not every room has free internet - only the non-smoking rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful, hotel was in a good location near the airport, Internet was free (in non-smoking rooms). The air conditioner can be a little weak, but it does the job. The beds were on the firm side, but not so firm as to be impossible to sleep on. Finding a nice hotel like this at the price in Makati was a great find! However, the hotel car is expensive to rent. I recommend you do not use the hotel car for anything except trips from the airport to the hotel (because regular taxis cannot enter Arrivals section at MIAA). Otherwise, taxis are easy to find and much, much cheaper.

Good hotel in a fairly good location”

Large, comfortable rooms, nice bathroom, very good restaurant

This is a decent hotel in a good location, only about 5-10 mins taxi ride from the Makati shopping malls. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom is clean and well-appointed. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was surprisingly good and very reasonably priced. The only down-side to eating there was the very loud band playing in the lobby bar downstairs. Overall, this is a good choice for a mid-range hotel in Manila.
