Superb beyond expectation based on the price.”
I was my first visit to Amsterdam. The hotel definitely worth the price. It was a 1 night stay in this hotel so I had limited time to discover any Muslim restorant around the area. However, they have a nice italian cafe at the lobby that offer vegetarian dish. I can't remember if they have seafood. I did try olio pasta and vegetarian pizza, and they were delicious. And best of all the hotel provide wifi/Internet acces which quite seldom Europian Hotel to provide it for FREE. Would love to come again and stay a bit longer there.
First time in Amsterdam ”
We spent 4 days at the Best Western as first-time travellers to the city. The hotel was perfectly located (close enough to the hubs with the local transport systems but not IN the hustle and bustle) The staff were amazing, they helped us with how to purchased tram cards, get around and find the local stores (AH etc) \ The only complaint I have is that I wish there was a kettle in the room to boil water for tea/coffee/soup
Great location and good service”
Had a pleasant stay at the hotel. Room is comfortable and clean although a bit smaller. Service is good and staffs are friendly and polite. The hotel is located at the strategic location. Just about 4 mins walk to tram station and 10 mins from the station to amsterdam central. Apart from that, the hotel is nearby to schipol airport, about 15 mins. The hotel taxi service is also excellent. Thumbs up for the hotel!!!!
Hem . Amsterdam”
A good, reasonably priced hotel, not too far out of town..only 15 minutes by tram...let's you stay comfortably and yet enjoy full days out in the city....! The hotel is generally quiet and situated right by the Inner Ring..although NO noise can be heard. A great place to use a s a base for exploring the great city of Amsterdam.
The hotel is great value for money. The room was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful. A tram stop is a 2 minute walk from the hotel that takes you straight into central Amsterdam where everything is so it is very well connected. I will definitely be staying again next time!!
Simple but convenient”
Short sightseeing trip to Amsterdam. Approx. 30 min from main station (via tramline 2) and 7 min walking from tram station. (negative) Beds were extremely soft and not adjusted to each other - this aspect we sincerely disliked. Internet connection was excellent. It is a simple hotel but (positive) very well adjusted to the needs of touristic travelers. The connection to down town was acceptable. The hotel offered 24 hrs food service.
Excellent for Amsterdam ”
Excellent value for money. Easy access to tram into central Amsterdam & bus to local metro trains. Close to airport. Currently under renovation. Once completed, will be fabulous.
if you see the rediculous prices people charge for rooms or flats in amsterdam , this is a very convenient option with a 30 to 40 min walk to central station . rooms are fine with fridge and comf bed and not to small at all . stayed here for 2 weeks and would go back
Quiet surroundings, but not recommended otherwise”
The good things about this hotel is that it is located in a relatively quiet neighborhood, a short 10-15 minute walk from Amsterdam Lelylaan railway station (7min train ride from Schiphol), and that the rooms were clean, but there are a long list of things this hotel does wrong. 1. Our room was not available when we arrived, which is fine. We also had a late flight out and had to check out early in the day, which is also fine. What is not fine is that the baggage room is UNLOCKED, located next to the dining area, which is a long hallway and a right turn away from the front desk. We sat there for about 20 minutes to observe the traffic in the area, and there really wasn't any hotel employees there maybe 95% of the time. It would have been very easy for somebody to come in, take your stuff, and run given this lack of clear oversight. 2. The day we arrived, we walked into a public restroom. A chef from the restaurant came in, urinated, and proceeded to leave, and we SAW him walk into the kitchen without washing his hands. Needless to say, we did not eat at the hotel as a result. 3. Internet was down for 2 days while we were there, and even when it worked, it was really slow. Luckily, there are plenty of cafes near the area. 4. Even though public transport is close by (tramway line #2 stops a 5min walk from the hotel), it may take you 45-60 minutes to get to the hotel from center-ville on this line during rush hour. Other hours of the day, it may be as 'less' as 25 minutes. Don't be deceived by the map. Further, each direction costs €2.80. Unless you decide to get the day pass for €12, plan on spending lots of time away from the hotel everyday to cut your costs. It is true the price was not so bad for this place, but given what we got, we don't think it was ultimately worth it.
Great value Budget Hotel in Amsterdam”
i was pleasantly suprised with the size and general quality of the room. the trip from schiphol airport on the train, metro and then tram was very straight forward and inexpensive. next door to the hotel is a shopping precint with 2 super markets plus a bakery and a couple of small cafes. it is about 5 to 7 minutes walk to the nearest tram stop - number 2 tram, that goes traight into amsterdam central, passing the museum district and other areas of interest to most tourists.
Good value for money.”
The price for this hotel was really cheap, considering the location close to the Amsterdam City Centre. ALL the minor special requests i made however, were NOT taken into account. Also there were NO international channels on the TV. Friendly reception though and overall a clean hotel.
Slowest elevators ever”
Before arriving at the Hotel, the staff was very cooperative and issued a letter for visa arrangements - it was highly appreciated. The hotel itself is very spacious. It can be a bit tricky to get there in the first time if you go by tram, but once you find the directions, then it is fine as the tram station is some 5 minutes away. A taxi ride from Amsterdam Centraal station can cost you some EUR 25. The hotel is huge but a bit run down in some areas. The exclusive elevator to the 4th floor was too slow, so we ended always taking the other one to the third floor and going on floor by the stairs. The room was quite spacious, clean and with basic amenities in the bathroom. The hairblower in the room was broken and the reception would lend one for half an hour when needed - this is not convenient at all. The hotel has several vending machines, a basic snack bar and a large restaurant. There should be some security for the luggage room. This facility is quite necessary in Amsterdam.
Really nothing to complain about. Was woken up by construction noises (around 9:00am) a few times, but when you're on holiday there's no point in oversleeping anyways. Staff was nice, and the hotel is conveniently close to the #2 tram station (Westlandgracht) that will connect you to city center (and pretty much anywhere else you'd need to go). Yes, it is under renovation, and isn't much to look at from the outside– as many low reviewers like to point out– but why be concerned with that? It's just the rooms that really matter, and ours were well maintained and provided a nice home base for us during our 5-day trip. All in all a good experience, I will probably return next time I visit.
Very cheap and very comfortble!”
for per night in amsterdam, we didn't expect much - but hem hotel delivered. a little out of the way... 3 blocks' walk to tram #2, 20 mins from centraal station... but if you're on a budget and don't need to stay in the heart of town, it's brilliant! 2x supermarkets almost right next door too.
nice and comfortable, little far from the center”
it's about 20Min tram way far from the central station. you can take the tram 2 to get to the hotel, most musuems and architectures are also along the tram 2, but still a little far awary, cause the transportation fee in amsterdam is high. but nice place to live, cause people there are very kind.
Value for Mo ney”
After booking this hotel i began reading negative reviews ,i was afraid that i made a srong choice. When i checkex in and went in my room i found a very nice room newlt refurbished and very comfy beds.I would recommend this hotel.
Hem Hotel, Amsterdam”
I stayed at the Hem Hotel for three nights end of April 2010. The reception staff were friendly and courteous. The bar and restaurant staff were helpful. The girl behind the bar especially so. Thankfully all the staff we dealt with spoke excellent English .The rooms were very basic with pretty yucky decor. However they were clean and well serviced. The hotel was a 20 min tram ride from central Amsterdam.
love this hotel ”
love this hotel next time in Amsterdam would stay here again for sure
Shock at first...”
District was shocking passing by foot, as it was a rundown poor part of Amsterdam. The hotel was under construction work, with debris and chaos. Our room was freshly refurbished, beds were ok, bathroom was small, and modest (e.g. there was no tray for showering, only the pure foor). The only thing I could hardly bear was that there was NO OPENABLE WINDOW in the room, so I have no fresh air at all. Moreover the "window" was looking at the reception desk! (There was air conditioning system which worked well at least). Receptionist and supervisor lady was very helpful and kind.
southern Amsterdam yet convenient”
the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I love the bar and restaurant. I love the big bathroom. and I love the neighborhood; even though it's quite a distance to the city center, it's accessible with tram and price-wise it's worthy. The hotel's airport shuttle connexion was very easy, hop on right in front of the hotel and took me to the airport in less than 20 minutes.
