Fort William - stop over
Standard BW hotel. Staff all from eastern Europe with poor English and ZERO smiles.

Very good
Location is central to Fort William and a good stop over ready for climbing Ben Nevis. The hotel itself is showing signs of tiredness and needing a bit of an overhaul in places. My room in general was fine but was woken up early hours when someone flushed a toilet and the noise from the cistern filling was as if I was in the same room. Also the shower cubicle door needed fixing and I nearly had the mirror above the basin fall off the wall when I wiped the condensation off it - this could have been very dangerous !!! Breakfast - staff seemed to be still asleep. There was about 8 people that turned up at 7:30am and the staff were not ready and it took 5-10mins before food orders were taken. I ended up getting my own coffee. If it was for more than one night then I don't think it would have been value for money, but as just a stopover then it was ok. I think this is what the hotel work on but could do better.

Poorly maintained, run-down hotel in need of repair and better customer service!
The Imperial Hotel is in such desperate need of repair it’d be easier to knock it down and start again! It’s been poorly maintained and is very dated. My two photos are of my room and give you an idea of what to expect from the accommodation, it just feels so run-down! My room faced the main road and the old, rotten windows didn’t close properly so it was noisy. My ensuite bathroom was better maintained but overall cleanliness was not great. When you travel to the highlands of Scotland you want to feel like you’re in Scotland. With all staff seeming to be eastern European and the food on offer being Indian or Italian it doesn’t feel very Scottish at all. The two ladies on reception at different times lacked any warmth or friendliness, and were not very helpful either on the phone or in person. There is a real lack of love in the service provided here. I know Fort William is popular with tourists so accommodation is in demand, but without question this hotel is over-priced. They simply cannot justify the prices they charge for the accommodation offered. Previously a Best Western hotel, it appears rates have increased since takeover by SGE Hotel Group. This is barely a three-star property, take my advice and look around for alternatives. Note: From other reviews it appears there might be some nicer rooms, so it may be luck of the draw what room you get.

Good hotel
I was there for only a night. This is a good place to be staying in fort William. The room is clean, the wifi is strong and the breakfast is great. It is walking distance to the train station and just behind fort william's pedestrian shopping area. If you come in a car, however, parking could be tricky as there are very few spaces available out front of the hotel. Also, there is no lift, so having a large suitcase could be difficult. Some of the staff is friendly but not all.

Where's the lift?
Forget easy access. If you have heavy bags, be ready to climb flight of stairs with fire safe doors making every 10 steps!
