excellent Staff and brilliant location , quiet at night good sleep”
Great place, the only thing that I did not like was that my bed was very high and there were not bedside lights to read at night.
Great location and atmosphere ”
Great location and only a few blocks from the Underground. Spacious room with comfortable beds. Thoughtfully designed rooms that retain character from the hotel’s former life as a row house, but offer amenities one anticipates in a fine hotel.
beautiful design, broken things”
This was the first time I was traveling alone in about 6 years (children stayed at home), the design of this hotel is SO COOL. I fully recommend staying here, the one issue was that things broke: the elevator didn't work for a few days, there was loud construction happening during the day across the way, and the windows were being washed during my stay. All these things combined would have annoyed any traveler but I was excited to be in a foreign city. Had everything been working it would have been perfect. Oh and the staff were truly the best, so kind, always asking if I needed anything, they were top notch.
Not worth the money”
Needs refurbishment, staff not particularly friendly, rooms very small, decor rather on the dark side
My second stay at Blakes”
Blakes is a lovely boutique hotel at the heart of London. It is walking distance from most places, and very close to the Gloucester tube station. The rooms are romantic, and the staff are always ready to help. My second stay in less than a year, enjoyed it thoroughly.
Still stylish and in superb location, but no longer deserves 5 star”
Very small room (double luxury). Asked in advance to have room towards street but was given another location without explanation. Room a bit worn but still stylish and very clean. Except for a vibrant bar and breakfast/ dinner room there are no facilities in hotel whatsoever. Service nice and friendly but not really "5 star".
Not what we expected. Very disappointed”
Uncomfortable cluttered dark gloomy rooms., with appalling lighting, and worse than that - impossible to even find or work the light switches. Were moved to a second room when we didn't like the first one., and again had to request help in the middle of the night to get the lights turned off. And both times even the staff couldn't work out how to do it. The rooms are all style over substance. Nothing works. Never again.
My wife and I loved staying at Blakes. The location is amazing, so close to anywhere you want to go, by foot, cab, or tube. The staff were wonderful, and the vibe in the evening is massive. Loved our stay and will certainly go back again!
The staff was warm, welcoming and attentive to our needs. The restaurant, especially at dinner, was excellent. The Maitre'd, waitstaff and bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. All in all a great stay.
Very cool boutique hotel”
Nestled in a residential corner, the hotel is funky, very comfortable, and has great food and drinks in the lounge. Rooms are small but impeccably decorated. I would definitely go back again.
The nightlife on a weekend is great
Had a wonderful stay here. Service was fantastic. It definitely is "cool." Families would not like it here, thank goodness. The last thing I wanted was a bunch of crying babies and strollers everywhere. That would have been annoying. It's a 9 min walk to nearest tube station. I did not mind, but some people might. I loved my room. I loved the big tub. I wished they had a gym.
Romantic hideaway in London ”
Great location, eclectic cool Asian inspired decor, attentive laid back staff, clubby atmosphere. In room service a bit of a disappointment, repeated errors, lukewarm drinks. Pricing fine but I expect standards to match. Departure ; concierge services less than overwhelming felt a bit out of sight out of mind..! Stay there again - would need guarantees that these niggles are sorted, fundamentally these are Quality management issues that should not be allowed to let a nascent institution down.
A very personal stay”
The hotel was beutifully appointed, with wxcellent amenities and very nice staff. It was more like being a house guest in someone's home than staying in a hotel. We would definitely stay again. Thanks
