More about Blok M

Blok M is often crowded by day, and even more so at night. Its popularity is due to its low-priced goods, vibrant night life, and easy accessibility for Jakartans. The Blok M Mall is the main shopping portion of the quarter, and contains one of the largest bus stations in the city. The Mall contains small, very reasonably-priced shops offering clothes, shoes, CDs and DVDs. The more modern and internationally-priced Blok M Plaza and Pasaraya Grande department stores share a movie theatre and basement food court. A whole floor of Pasaraya Grande is dedicated to Indonesian antiques and handicrafts.

Blok M’s Falatehan Street, just north of the bus terminal, is packed with busy pubs and bars that cater primarily to male expats. Venues stay open well into the early hours. Dining options in the area vary from restaurants to small street vendors, and also stay open late.

Blok M runs east from Iskandarsyah Street to Bulungan Street in the west, and north from Falatehan Street to Melawai Street in the south. Melawi Street is home to Jakarta's ‘Little Japan’ due to its wealth of popular Japanese restaurants, bars and karaoke joints.
