        It really is this good!”

The staff, the beds, oh, did I mention the staff?

There is a simple reason why the Blue Bird Hotel comes out so well in all reviews - it really is that good! Having stayed in some very high end hotels around Asia, what the Blue Bird lacks in size, and in some ways facilities, it more than makes up for with the warmth of welcome and the friendly attentiveness of the staff. For the staff performance alone, this hotel is probably the best I have ever stayed in, and particular mention should be made of the reception staff who greet you with a friendly smile and then quickly become your friend and fixer, sorting out trips, booking taxis and ensuring that your every need is catered for. Whilst there, we also met the owners, a Swiss gentleman and his Burmese wife, and they too go out of their way to make the stay memorable. We especially liked our room with mosquito covered beds that we sank into most comfortably after days out visiting the temples and other sites. Though a small hotel, we found the food in the restaurant, though not extensive in choice, to be of a high quality with obvious effort made to source fresh produce and immaculate presentation. Like the town of Bagan, the hotel is quiet, but this relaxing atmosphere suited our requirements perfectly. I know the owner has plans to add facilities to the hotel and I hope that we can return to sample the additions. I would not think to try another hotel in Bagan - even the highest end ones there would struggle to compete with the Blue Bird! Going to Bagan? Stay at the Blue Bird and enjoy Burmese hospitality at its finest!

Boutique hotel with a deserved reputation”

We just returned from a 2-night stay at the Blue Bird Hotel in Bagan. The hotel is situated on the edge of New Bagan, and is perfectly situated for those people who want to tour the area. This hotel will suit people of all ages, with or without children. The rooms are spacious and clean and the beds and linens are equal to the best hotels. We've lived in Thailand for the last 10 years know this isn't always the case with Asian hotels where beds can sometimes be so hard that sleeping is difficult for those not used to sleeping on tile floors. The food is fantastic and we ate at the hotel both nights. The menu isn't extensive, but is sufficiently varied that there will be something for everyone. Prices are very reasonable and the wines are actually cheap considering the quality. Do not leave unless you've tried the bottle gourd soup and the chocolate soufflé. We ordered a bottle of wine each night and ate 3 course meals for $50 to $60. The staff is really exceptional and it is clear that the owners have made pleasing guests the ultimate priority. Each day when we returned to the hotel someone was there to hand us a cool towel and cold glass of water. Phillipe, the owner, happened to be there during our stay and it was obvious that he's a professional and tuned to the needs of his guests. My wife casually mentioned something that she liked the day of our arrival and this was presented to us as a gift on our departure. That's paying attention and it speaks to the way this hotel is run in all aspects. We couldn't recommend it more. As for sightseeing in Bagan, we rented two small electric scooters from a local couple immediately outside our hotel and spent several hours each day exploring. The roads are dusty, slightly pot-holed and some of the back roads can be a bit challenging for novice riders like ourselves, but we would recommend this mode of travel for anyone that is comfortable on two wheels (we're pushing 60). The young or fit can also rent ped

        A relaxing stay”

The friendly staff, the beautiful room and shower, the quiet area

We enjoyed our stay at Blue Bird in Bagan in May 2014 in New Bagan. A good location, clean, garden atmosphere, very friendly staff and beautiful rooms. The area is very quiet as well. We arranged for an airport pick up which was nice as the hotel provides a air conditioned luxury car to pick up in. Upon arrival, staff immediately greets you with a refreshing towel and drink. The room was nice and large, a beautiful bathroom. Wifi in in room was spotty (though this can be said for the whole city). Electricity is also spotty (especially when it rains). All payments are typically made in cash (and often required in local currency). The hotel offers bikes for free (which we did on one day), though I would recommend taking the E-Bike option instead (about $15USD for the day). The distances between pagodas can be long and with the heat an E-Bike works out as a better option in the long-run. After a long day, the rain shower at Blue Bird made our choice to stay here all the more worth it (though when the power goes out, so does the shower pump so beware of this). There is also a DVD player in the room and plenty of DVD options in the reception area which is nice. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on two occasions. The food is good but options are limited. Don't forget your bug spray! Breakfast options were nice as well. I would recommend this hotel to other travelers.

        One of our Bagan highlights”

Wonderful Staff, Beautifully Designed, Delicious Food

I've been meaning to write this review ever since our trip to Myanmar, and I can't believe it took this long. I'm ashamed. To everyone at Bluebird - I'm so sorry! Staying here was probably one of the most enjoyable experiences of being in Bagan, (and this is coming from a person who always prioritizes cultural experience over accommodation, though luckily I was traveling with someone who is the opposite in this case), simply because staying here can be likened to nothing but an oasis. The hotel itself is beautiful, and everyone to the staff to the owners themselves are so approachable. After some chats with the owner and her husband (the former being from Burma/Myanmar herself, and the latter from France), discovered that she actually designed it all herself! A very talented, thorough and organized lady, she has been trained around the globe and made sure that every single detail in her hotel is perfect: from the mix of eclectic and traditional menu/drinks, to the garden, even the rooms themselves. With greenery and flowers everywhere, I couldn't help but wake up with a smile every time I walked outside and sipped on a wonderfully fresh cup of coffee. If you get the chance - try the tiramisu cocktail. And I really just can't can't say enough about the staff. They were all so wonderfully kind to me and Erin. So helpful and accommodating, they answered every question that we had with a smile and gave great suggestions for local sites/vendors. Erin had to book a really last minute bus back to Yangon to catch a flight, and they did absolutely everything they could to make it all work (and it did). We couldn't be more grateful. Wish I could name names - but then this review would be too long! My only complaint is its location, though this is unavoidable with UNESCO building laws halting construction in Old Bagan. NB is developing a vibe of its own besides, and we just loved staying at Blue Bird. To be honest, Erin and I miss all their smiling faces.

        The service is fantastic!”

The grounds of the Blue Bird were beautiful and well maintained. Our room was large, as was the bathroom. However, what made our stay truly wonderful was the extraordinary service the owners and staff provided! Whether it be having a proposed itinerary for us upon arrival, or arranging for e-bikes, or confirming our balloon rides (if it is in budget, well with the expense), arranging for our bus from Bagan to Mandalay (and they arranged for pick up at Blue Bird to delivery at our hotel in Mandalay), suggesting places to stay on our next leg, the staff was wonderful. And they were all kind and attentive. The pool was well maintained (as good as I've seen anywhere. Then there are the cocktails, if you are so inclined, in theevening. They were wonderful! We learned each was a creation of the owner, who also happens to be a mixologist. Should we return to Bagan, it will be the Blue Bird.

The best of the hotel is the staff. They are lovely and guest service minded”

Luckily hotel Blue bird was an Oase comparing to the rest of the area. Arriving in Bagan in March (and getting worse in April till August) was a bit dry and dusty in your face. The roads to the villages and hotel look deserted. We were happy that we had our own Oase to relax in Blue bird during the hot afternoon. The room is pretty and because the friendly staff we dined every evening in the hotel. After the temple tour we enjoyed our "different style" local food lunch on the river beach and we also enjoyed the good flavoured stir fried vegetables dishes at the tourists orientated restaurants with a view around the river in New Bagan.

Great find - close to everything!”

Stayed 2 nights in this wonderful hotel - a real oasis of calm away from the dust of Bagan! It should be noted that Bagan is expensive overall for hotels - they command their prices - and the Blue Bird Hotel was very good value for money. Very good location, with e-bikes to rent outside the door,, enabling you to see all the sights. Rooms are large and the bed very comfortable (a rare find in Myanmar where all beds are very hard). Need more light in the bathroom as it's quite dark. Staff go out of their way to help you - and are very pleasant and genuinely want you to have a good time. Breakfast is very nice, and cooked to order, with other buffet items available as well. They focus on quality not quantity, and their evening meals reflect the same excellent cooking. Really tasty and very reasonable in cost as well. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would highly recommend anyone stay there!

We stayed 3 nights at the Blue Bird Resort. The reception was very friendly. The staff very helpful and they pay attention to little amenities which let feel you as if you were living alone in the resort. Blue Bird has a lot of information about Old/New Bagan. If you would like to rent a bicycle or an ebike you can find a little rental company infront of the resort. The rooms are big and very lovely. The pool area relaxing and very clean. The restaurant is to recommend. Everything we had was delicious and nice prepared. We highly recommend this hotel if you wish a relaxing and peaceful time in Bagan...

        Excellent Start to Our Holiday”

Proximity to the temples, the gorgeous room, the friendliness & helpfulness of the staff

The Blue Bird Hotel is a great base for exploring the temples in Bagan. After a night flight to Yangon & an overnight bus to Bagan we were very happy to be able to check into our room at 6am and get some much-needed sleep! When we finally emerged we discovered that the free bikes were more than adequate for getting us around Bagan (although we did hire e-bikes in New Bagan on one day & would thoroughly recommend them for getting off the beaten track). We had some concerns about the proximity to restaurants but actually found it to be a very easy 10 minute stroll into New Bagan where there are plenty of restaurants. All in all a wonderful start to our holiday in Myanmar.

        SERVICE SERVICE GORGEOUS AND SERVICE”

Let me just start by saying this is one of the best hotel experiences i have ever had. Rooms are huge and so are the bathrooms. Nice deco but modern when needed. Great pool. Food is fantastic. Eveything is on upscale standards. But what makes the difference is the quality of service. Nora, Phillipe and Chiu (and all the team) are great. From arranging visits, helping with bike rentals all was done fast and well. But the little details. Like a signed card from the staff for our honeymoon, or remembering what we wanted for bfast everyday, a recommended printed itinerary for you on arrival, the cold water and towel after a day on the bikes sightseeing, the manners of waiters, etc etc. This service i have not seen even in Japan. Do yourself a favour. If in Bagan, go to Blue Bird. You will thank me for sure. Ps try the mango scennted pork curry and the Belgian chocolate mousse. Ps 2. On a map might look a bit outside of Bagan. Its not. Bagan is very small. Is very well located.

Spacious, comfortable, top-quality room, Tremendous Staff/Service, Tranquility Deluxe

What a place! Totally lucked into the Blue Bird vis a vis Agoda.com. Spacious, well-appointed, comfy, tremendous staff, and solid food! It's not too far away from any one place, but it is quietly out of the way in New Bagan. Please remember, this is still Myanmar; however, you will lose sight of that fact once you check into the deluxe comfort that is the Blue Bird. My only, tiny criticism is the breakfast is an A-- in the world of hotel breakfasts, but it's an A++++++ for Burma. Highly recommend the Blue Bird over every other spot in Bagan!

a great base to explore Bagan”

very good value for money. location - significantly less tourists in New Bagan. Small boutique hotell with less than 20 rooms.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Blue Bird hotel. It seems to be quite new so everything is fresh and doesn't show signs of wear. It is also quite intimate with ca 15 rooms. Since it is in New Bagan, the price level is lower than for comparable hotels in Old Bagan. And to be honest, to us New Bagan seemed a much better place to explore the area - the 2-3 main sites are close to Old Bagan so everyone goes there, making them look like your local department store during Christmas shopping. Instead, rent an e-bike, get a local map from your hotel and go explore the "not so popular" pagodas and villages. The only average score for Blue Bird goes to the kitchen - food is OK, not great and quite expensive even for European standards. We opted for other local restaurants and the neighboring Bagan lodge.

        A wonderful find in Bagan!”

The property/rooms, staff/service and the food

This hotel made our stay in Bagan extra special. We were greeted by Swiss owner Philippe and his wonderful local staff who are friendly and very service oriented (even to the most discerning travelers). The hotel property is lovely - wonderful gardens full of bougainvillea, a pool and teak tables / chairs for dining. The rooms (there are only 38) are well appointed, comfortable, inviting and large with ample plugs for electronics and all the extra touches you might want. The location is quiet - off the beaten path but definitely walking distance to wherever you need to be. You can rent e-bikes right out front (separate operator) for about 4US$/day. We stayed 3 nights and everyone remembers you and your preferences so you feel like you are at home. Many local lacquer shops give discounts to the guests of Blue Bird. I like that they employ all local people and they all seem so happy and well cared for. If you ever visit Bagan, please seriously consider this lovely boutique hotel. Best place to stay with in NewBagan”

I was very pleased with all aspects of the Blue Bird hotel in New Bagan and would stay nowhere else should I visit Bagan again. From value, to location, to staff, to amenities , all was excellent. I could not have been more pleased. My only comment to the owner is to change the location of the entertainment center in the room. It’s current location, near the center of the room, makes the room seem smaller than it is and becomes the focal point of the room, and moreover makes one feel a bit claustrophobic when in bed. But, that is trivial and all else was dandy!

        Great Little Hotel in Bagan”

Best Three Things: Service, Environment, Location

The Blue Bird was the best hotel we stayed at in Myanmar. A beautiful, quiet, and warm little hotel with a great little swimming pool to cool off in after a hot day exploring Bagan. Everyone at the hotel was professional and courteous without being smarmy. Reception helped book horse and carriage as well as e-bikes at a reasonable price. Food at the hotel was delicious and not overly expensive. Only knock was that laundry service was a bit high ($30 for a couple changes of clothes or so?) and we decided to do it ourselves. It gets pretty hot in Bagan. In any case, though, a really great hotel and I wish we'd spent three days there instead of only two. If/when I return, I'll be staying there again for sure.

        Excellent Stay”

We loved the staff, the pool and the dinner, all were terrific!

Our stay at the Blue Bird was great. The staff went was so friendly, the room was beautiful and the pool was relaxing. We had dinner and lunch there and thought both were excellent. The staff arranged a horse cart for us one morning and also had e-bikes and scooters, which we rented one day to tour on our own. The location of the hotel makes it easy to get to both the temples in Old Bagan and the ones along the way to Nyaung U. Breakfast was very good as well, eggs your way with fresh fruit, toast, potatoes, bacon, sausage, delicious Myanmar soup and stir fried vegetables and more! Thanks to all at Blue Bird for a wonderful stay in Bagan!

        Amazing off-the-beaten path oasis”

        Staff/service, setting, and comfortable rooms

The Blue Bird is a really great option in New Bagan. The service was really excellent. They helped me confirm my balloon date, arranged a car, provided a suggested itinerary of 'special temples' and experiences, as well as managed to help arrange for me to get a 2nd memory card for my camera-- which I had forgotten. The location, while off the beaten path, is not inconvenient with their ample car service options. It is really ideal for anyone wanting to go back to a hotel that is not noisy, busy, or along the main drag. The pool-side restaurant and bar are really marvelous. The food is excellent-- I had two local-choice dinners that were very flavorful and well-prepared as well as two breakfasts that were more western. The rooms in this hotel are spacious-- the waterfall shower in the bathroom was also quite nice. Extremely comfortable beds and nice amenities.

        A small piece of paradise!”

The Blue Bird Hotel really is incredibly special. From the moment we arrived, our stay was absolutely perfect and we were glad we chose this wonderful boutique hotel. We stayed as part of our honeymoon and were welcomed by a card signed by all the staff+our bed tastefully decorated with petals. This highly personalised service was upheld throughout our stay - the staff can't do enough to help their guests and are such genuinely warm and kind peopled. Breakfast was excellent with the best ever banana pancakes + nice coffee. The pool and grounds are like a little piece of tropical paradise. Small evening food menu but food made to an excellent standard + cocktails can't be missed. This hotel is an absolute must if staying in Bagan!

An exquisite boutique hotel, with excellent servic”

The service, the calmness, and attention to detail

The 1 night, 2 days that we spent in the Blue Bird Hotel was an amazing get away from the busy city life of Yangoon. The service was excellent, helpful at every opportunity, and welcoming. After a long days biking around in the heat of bagan, we were always welcome with fresh towels, and cold drinks to refresh us. The pool, cocktails & bar service is very nice. Lying in the infinity pool, with an ice cold beer, and peanuts during our last couple hours, was the cherry on the cake. I definately recommend this hotel to any one who needs a bit of quite, and who also wants to fully enjoy the zen atmosphere of bagan.
