    “Minimalist art hotel”

I never saw anything like this hotel before. All rooms are unique artwork created by different artists. Part of the room fees goes directly to the artist who created it. The idea is, your experience while staying at this Alter Museum become part of the art installation. There's an audio guide for each room and unique quirks and objects. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and excellent showers. They are best described as minimalist. There's little furniture and storage space, and also no TV or anything you'd expect from a standard hotel. But that's the beauty of it. You pay for a unique experience. The breakfast was very enjoyable. Although there was a coffee machine, it wasn't operational during our stay, so we had to settle on filter coffee. It was good. Bar was pricy and drinks felt a little bland.

“Quirky, interesting hotel - not for everyone though...”

"Art hotels" can be very good, very bad or in between, and they are not for everyone. I quite liked the BnA Alter Museum/Hotel for its location and its quirky creativity, less so for the room comfort. My "Sai Superior Queen Room" (named for the artist who created it, Sai) was a decent size with a comfortable bed, good bathroom and good views, but its artistic concept, while interesting, made it feel a little dark and forbidding. There was a very small wardrobe in one corner which I only discovered in the morning, as it was basically invisible at night when I checked in. Every room in this hotel is different, so the above comment really only relates to the Sai room. If you're prepared to make allowances for the concept, then by all means try this hotel out! But if you just want a comfy, well-lit, "normal" hotel room to crash in, this may not be the right place for you.

    “Unique Stay”

I stay here as a solo traveler and can say that i had a comfortable stay here. It’s within walking distance to bus stations, Kyoto-Karawamachi station, and convenience stores (7/11 and Family Mart). The room was spacious, clean, and unique, id say you get your money’s worth. I love the concept of the room where each room is a different art installation from local artists. Staffs are helpful. I’d definitely stay here again.

“Cool art hotel in the middle of Kyoto”

One of the cooler hotels I've stayed in. I stayed in two of the art rooms, one being the SHOWKO room and the other being the EYE Suite. The SHOWKO room is centered around the art of kintsugi. Very interesting, very modern minimalist. The other room, the EYE Suite, is probvably the room that most people want to book. It's a sensory overload the first time you enter the room. Shaking floors, loud sounds in the dark until you get to the bed area. There's a hidden tunnel underneath the bed that you enter through the couch that is really cool. A nice little zen room to hang out in. The room ha a great view of the river bank for those whole love a beautiful sight in the morning. The hotel itself is very hip. There's a art museum on the second floor along with a cafe and a bar on the first that opens pretty late. The only slight issue is that it's a bit of a walk to the train station but if you want to get around by bus there is a bus stop nearby. Other than that would definitely recommend the place again and try out the other art rooms.

    “Unique”

What a unique and fun place to stay! The location is a bit tricky by car, and there is not really a public train nearby, but it is walking distance from so many great sights and restaurants. The staff really welcome you and take care of whatever you might need. There is a bar downstairs that often hosts live music, and of course, has beautiful art all over the place. The room was so fun and unique! The staff did a great job introducing us to the artist's background and explaining the art in the room. The room was clean and everything was comfortable and spacious. Overall, I recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique experience in the area. You won't find another place like it, I can assure you of that!
