Worth it”
Booked at Borneo Backpackers for 3 days 2 nights and planned to haunt for the next backpackers lodge for the span of my stays in KK but i got hooked by the cleanliness, friendly staff , good wifi signal , close to the city , affordable price , easy to find public transport and a place to hangout . So i decided to extend my stayed until the end of my vacation. I strongly recommended Borneo Backpackers Lodge.

Great stay and value the money ”
I enjoy my stay at Borneo backpackers. This is my second time visit to kota Kinabalu and my second time stayed in this place. The location is good where walking distance to many places including the shopping center. This round trip good to know the air port now have shuttle bus where only need to pay for rm5 to get to the central of kota Kinabalu.

Summer In KK”
The backpackers is good and excellent. It just frustrating that in the beginning of the booking thru AGODA itself, it indicate that I'm paying when I want to check in on the 25th May. But they already charge to my debit card 5 days prior to check in. And when I call them, they said that they were not affiliate with AGODA which was quite surprise for me. Imagine receiving a message that your debit card is being charge under a travel agent rather then a borneo backpackers itself. How would you feel. Thus, I really need some good explanation from both AGODA and Borneo Backpackers regarding this issue.

Feel like home”
Borneo backpackers makes me feel like home. Staff are friendly. There's one lazy cat as accompany as well. Simple budget place to stay with simple breakfast (toast bread with coffee/tea). No television but there is one PC to use. Wifi available. Location located middle of the city. Able to walk to mall like 5-8 minutes walk. Lots of chinese food along the street. Just cross the road for Sunday morning market street. Cons is just you will feel noisy during sleeping time. Walls are not thick. You may hear people talking and also cars/buses passing by outside. Heard of complaint on bed bugs but I am lucky no bed bugs bite!

Splendid guesthouse!”
It’s no luxury but for a guesthouse Borneo Backpacker meet all the essential needs. Clean room, clean toilet and common room. Free and simple breakfast. Balconies, rooftop and a bar/restaurant for hanging out and breathe of fresh air. Only thing, the room need more hanging clothes hooks.

Friendly place”
A friend and I stayed in a twin room in Dec 2016 for several nights. We enjoyed our stay because we met some cool people and enjoyed Kota Kinabalu in general (amazing marine park!). Borneo Backpackers is a pricier option in the area but we stayed out of convenience because we were busy. Nice staff, clean rooms and shared bathroom. The wifi isn't strong enough to connect to with a phone (got our laptop to connect though). The breakfast, as others have said, is dull (just tea / coffee and white bread with jam) but overall the place does the trick. One little annoying thing was the fact that you have to cross a roundabout every time you want to get into the main part of the city but it's close to everything and once you get the hang of crossing the roundabout, everything is fine.

budget, cozy stay & strategic location”
borneo backpacker had met my expectation during stay which are budget & comfort sleep. Just a small comment about public toilet cleanliness that we cant avoid to share with other, hope everyone can be kind of it after used. Location very strategic, by walking distance few minutes can reach those surrounding places like Sword Fish Monument (landmark), Segama Waterfront, Gaya street market, Suria Shopping mall, Wisma Merdeka, Little Italy Restaurant, Kedai Kopi Yee Fung (laksa), Ang's Hotel Restaurant (Fatt Kee Coffee Shop), Kedai Kopi Foo Yuen (thick bread with kaya and butter slices).

Pleasant experience”
My stay was a pleasant experience as I was a solo traveler, staying at a room alone my concern was my safety. This place has it's own safety precautions, locked gates and own code so I can enter and get inside the hotel. I enjoyed the breakfast although it's not that special just coffee and toasted bread, I like the small kitchen and the thought of making my own breakfast, enjoying the place at a leisure time sure is a thumbs-up for me. Thank you Borneo Backpackers ... if ever I got the chance to be back I will sure stay with you again and again.

Clean hostel and service with a smile”
Borneo Backpackers was maintained quite clean. The staff is always friendly and offering a smile. I was a single traveler and able to book a single fan room on Agoda for a very good price. When I wanted to add 2 more nights to my stay, the staff made it quite convenient for me to make the decision. The breakfast is just toast and jam, I didn't really eat it except one out of the 5 nights I had a slice of bread. The location is convenient so it was easy to go out to grab a bite.

Great and value the money staying in this place”
First time staying in this backpackers. Easy to access and near to eating and shopping place. Very accessible. Booking directly from their website can get a free airport transfer when you touch down to kota Kinabalu. The room size is ok and shared toilet is clean.

Friendly staff, great location and value for money”
I've been staying at this place for many many times and never got disappointed. The location is great, close to mall, eateries, market and even the Sunday morning market. Now, with Uber available in Kota Kinabalu, traveling by a car is as cheap and convenient as ever.

No complaints”
Stayed here for the second time. This time's for Borneo Half Marathon, which the flag off point is just a stone's throw away. Room and everything are great. Love the rooftop too. Check out time is 11am. Due to the exhaustion and muscle sore from the run, i moved my things out from the room and asked if i could just rest at the common area after 11. The staff permitted me to do so. It was so nice of them.

Cosy in the heart of town”
This is a friendly, relaxed backpackers in the heart of town. Staff are helpful & good hearted, an easy place to get to know/chat with other travellers. Rooms are basic but clean. Only shared bathrooms. Although it's pretty open plan there were no noise issues within the hostel. It's located on a main road but that's pretty common in this town. Cafe downstairs is great & open all day, there is also toast for breakfast & tea/coffee to help yourself to & a kitchen/fridge to use. Communal area sofas to hang out on. They could do with investing in some private lockers but nevertheless it's a safe place to stay & I'm glad I chose it.

Excellent”
Pros: Heritage building with nicely decorated rooms. Sweet kitty who wanders around. Not far of a walk from the waterfront, restaurants, a couple of malls, the jetty for ferries, and the bus to Kinabalu park. Cons: School groups dominating common area space and making lots of noise. Internet barely worked, and cut out completely on our last night in the middle of us booking our onward travel. It was still not up and running even the next morning. Toaster for breakfast needed to be held down in order to function and took forever to even warm up a slice of bread.

old fashion neat”
My husband likes the style of old building. However, my 14 y/o daughter does not like it. We booked a family room which is right in the corner, a bit noisy. The air condition works for the upper bed not to the low bed. Staff is very friendly. Environment is clean. Recommend it for backpackers!

Quiet and easy going ”
Nice backpackers. It is clean and the people who work there are friendly. It is really close to restaurants and shopping areas,markets. It is also within walking distance to the jetty for island hopping and also 2 mins walk to the bus stop for Kota Kinabalu National Park.

there is a taxi station to mount kinabalu nearby, just 200 meters behind the backpacker, 20RM per person for the van but leave with full occupancy, 30RM per person for the small taxi and you can rent at 6:30 am

Exceptional”
Lots of character. Felt like a home away from home. Stayed in a private room with my partner. Very basic. Only had one blanket for the both of us, not sure if they forgot to put another one or thought it would be too hot anyway. A towel provided for both of us. Bar downstairs. There was a salsa night the day we arrived. Great central location! Would definitely stay here again.
