          Memorable stay in beautiful suroundings”

Friendly staff, fantastic suroundings, and countryside activities

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Highlands Resort and would recommend it to anyone visiting Kuching who wants to experience the Borneo highlands. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and there are plenty of walks from the hotel. We enjoyed the walk through the jungle to the Kalimantan view, the views over Indonesia were great, and I climbed Mount Penrissen which was a tough five hour hike but very rewarding. The activities desk was very helpful and you can do guided activities if you want to pay. The hotel was good value for money. The vegetarian menu has some good dishes but would be enhanced by a little more range and creativity. The restaurant staff were very helpful and always made sure we had some iced water after coming back from a walk. The outside pool was out of action when we visited which was a little disappointing but the spar service and pool was very good. We hired a car in Kuching and drove to the resort which gave us a little more flexibility, but the hotel also provides plenty of transport round the resort area and some trips further afield if you want them. We enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere in this lovely place.

          Exceptional”

Borneo Highlands Resort boasts superb scenery and climate. It has a world class golf course. Whilst it is a little aged it still has great ambience and peace... We found the staff very helpful despite limited English. We visited the Resort for the purpose of bird watching and photography. That aspect was somewhat disappointing but insect photography was brilliant. The lack of double sleeping facilities is a drawback and a greater variety of accomodation optiions would be an improvement.

Resort with jungle trek and high view”

Cool temperature & jungle at door step

It was a long (1 hour) journey to go up to the highlands. It takes 15-20 minutes just to travel from foothill to resort. I arranged from taxi to pick me up from Kuching city and send me all the way up to resort, as advised by the staff at the resort. I forgot that the temperature on highland was cool, hence did not have sufficient appropriate clothing. It was raining on the day that I check-in. There was a lot of fog/mist in the area. It was just like a walk in the clouds! You can see the 'clouds' moving towards, into and away from you! That was a refreshing experience for me. The down side of this 'cloudy' experience was that I was unable to participate in the night walk. The guide explained that it will be virtually impossible to see anything. Unsure if it was due the to fog, wifi at lobby was weak. There was NO wifi in room. Even as a single traveller, I find the room small. There was only a small coffee-table and no writing table. Luckily there was still a small stand that I can place my luggage on. There was no hair-dryer in the room and the wooden window door was not moving smoothly. There was no tv in the room, initially, I thought it will be very boring. However, I found out that it was more comfortable and relaxing to play soothing music. The weather cleared the next morning. I went on a guided jungle trek. It was raining the previous night. The ground was wet and slippery but it was still enjoyable. I told my guide that I was interested in mushrooms & fungi and he was considerate enough to look-out, show and stop for a photo-shoot. That slowed the pace and extended the duration of the trek. The resort is at the Sarawak-Kalimantan border. It offers a good view of the Kalimantan from the look-out point. Heard from the guide that in certain months, hornbills can be sighted from the look-out point. I only regret was that I didn't have time to try the spa as I only stayed for 1 night

          Quiet, Relaxing, Beautiful

The resort is located up in the Highlands well outside of Kuching, so if you are looking for entertainment this is not your place. If you are looking for a peaceful stay in a beautiful location this is the place for you. The surroundings are amazing, great views from the mountain, amazing sunset and sunrise. The facilities are great as well, very rustic mountain cottage type feel. I'm not a golfer but if you are the course their looked amazing as well.

Superb place for a nature getaway”

The resort is a place for a short getaway from the urban city life and enjoy the scenic view with chilling weather. It was a quiet night during our stay but we thoroughly enjoy that. The resort also provide an optional tour for RM30+ per pax to 3 attractions, namely Kalimantan view point, horticulture garden and flower garden. Food is served in restaurant and we miss the Nasi Goreng Kampung so much. On top of that, the friendliness and efficiency showed by the staff of the resort deserved an applaud. Our car battery dies off at the lower hill entrance and we informed the security in charge, and he immediately ring up the receptionist in the resort, and 2 resort staff were dispatched to help us. The staff arrived in thunder speed, helped us to fix our car so we can continue our journey to airport safely. Thank you and kudos to the staff!

          So and so”

We stay at eagle suite. the suite is devide by 1 hall with 4 post king size bed and 1 small room with 2 single bed.. me and my child stay at the hall where as my siblings stay in the room.. my siblings room wass ok but the problem is come from my area.. the fan is far away from our bed. i cant open the sliding door/window coz my 5yr old son is scared of the dark (i hv to close the panel). So both of us decided to sleep on the floor under the fan (i thought the place will get cooler like cameron or genting.. but...). The room sliding panel window is not maintain well (keeps falling of track... and heavy too). The toilet is clean but the preasure water is quite slow. The table & wall lamp are full of dust and died insects. Dusty under the bed. Clean sheets though. The food is not bad.. breakfast too... The best about this place is the staff is helpfull and the area it self is an insta worthy scenery. Note: The place should call Borneo Rainforest rather than Borneo Highland..

          Relaxing holiday”

Fresh air, good staff, nice view

For me, borneo highland resort is good for anyone who want a relaxing holiday, playing golf and love nature. The room is quite small. The building is quite old but the view is fantastic.

          Beautiful resort”

+ beautifully well maintained greens, staff friendly, quiet location, breakfast was yummy, room was an ok size - food greasy on evening meal and a little pricey for noodles, should of been informed about leeches on jungle walk Overall, we loved the peaceful surroundings, the walks and the pleasant atmosphere. Would love to return here. Be aware that the drive up to the resort is steep, there's a lovely waterfall to stop at on the way to the resort

Great exercise location but room need maintenance”

          Relaxation, exercise and massage

I stayed 4D 3N at BHR with my two sisters with the intention to exercise and made the best choice location. Our daily walks starts at 6.45 am till evening cherishing the serene and breathtaking surroundings. The cool weather help us enjoy our walks around the golf course, Kalimantan summit and every corner of the resort soaking in as much negative ions as we could. We had the opportunity to experience both Jungle Cabin and the Clubhouse. Room at Clubhouse is cleaner and decent, nice view to watch sunrise and convenient to use resort facilities. Jungle Cabin has lots of mosquitoes which we overcome by pasting mosquitoes repellant patch on the walls. Stay would be pleasant if toilet is refurnished to be similar to that at Clubhouse. We find it more convenient for walks staying at the Jungle Cabin as the path leading to the Clubhouse is quite steep and tiring for walks. American breakfast served with healthy juice (mix of several fruits) was very satisfying. A must try is the mushroom and pumpkin soups which I enjoyed most. Other meals taken at the only restaurant was hot and delicious. The only inconvenient to BHR is the distance from the city area which means we had to pay extras for transfer from the airport. The highlight of our stay was having a relaxing massage by Margaret. A must try for all who enjoy having massages. My younger sister who was suffering from a swollen thigh thought she was putting on weight but had her thigh reduced by half after two massages. Also, a patch of blood clot (thought to be dirt) dissolved to a smaller patch following the massage. It is amazing to see the difference in the size of her tight when we first arrived and when we left as she could hardly bend her knees before the massage. Our special thanks to Margaret who worked closed to midnight to do the massages for us and came early next morning to do a second one for my sister. I would say, she has made our stay at BHR a memorable and enjoyable one with her super

          Beautiful sceneries, but disappointing facilities”

Before traveling to Borneo Highlands, we read that this hotel was past its former glory. This is unfortunately true. Although the room itself was comfortable and clean, all other facilities were limited. Swimming pool was closed. The restaurant served basic food for high prices and was served at different times, so we couldn’t eat together. The scenery itself is very nice though. Beautiful view points, marked jungle track (with many leeches) and nice track around the golf course.

Avoid Jungle Cabins - rest Resort is beautiful !”

Highlands, landscapes, golf course - very scenic

Borneo highlands resort makes for a very pleasant and relaxing vacation - beautiful landscapes, cool weather, wonderful golf course. Do strictly avoid the jungle cabins - they are run down, no maintenance, not worth even a 2 star accomodation, far away from main lobby, no telephone in room! had to make personal international calls to ask for shuttle to lobby and for basics like toilet paper, towels etc - which also did not arrive! no hot water in taps in a cool place, no nice views, no nets on windows so have to keep everything closed to prevent insects getting in. For our second night we were luckily transferred to the birdie rooms in the main block - much better maintained and a much more pleasant experience. No TV though, in case that matters. Also, vegetarian food only and somewhat limited menu choices - and far far away from everywhere else - so have to eat the same foods over and over again for as many meals as the number of days spent there.

No better place than this near Kuching”

Its really a good place to go to have the real relaxation. Its fully surrounded by nature. No television, Vegetarian food, Phone signal is not great, WiFi is also not strong. So almost totally disconnected from Routine tiring world. Kids felt boring after one day. When I reached back home felt I returned from another world. Not a exaggeration, those who really want some time away, its one of the good place to go near Kuching. Facilities having plus and minus, but its manageable.

          Better than expected”

We used own transport to the resort, 4 adults 2 kids, stayed 1 night. It was a drizzling day, we're lucky to enjoy the cool weather. The whole resort only 6 of us due to off peak season. It's very quiet at night and we got to enjoy the tranquility to the fullest. The rooms were clean and with good view. Food was good. I will definitely stay 2 nights during next visit, even my 6 & 8 years old kids were complaining not enough time for them to run freely on the meadow.

          Go for beautiful scenery”

Beautiful view around the place with cool and fresh air. The facilities of the resort is somehow limited. Some part of the resort look run down such as the gym and spa facilities. They have a restaurant that serve vegetarian based food, the taste is just acceptable, nothing much. Limited choice of food for dinner which they serve in big portion and a bit pricey. There's no tv and other entertainment but internet connection and mobile phone works just fine. There is a small shop hat sells souvenir but not that attractive (more to golfers item). It will be good if they could have small playground for young children and vending machine (for drinks or snacks) and to provide more information/promotional leaflet at the counter .
