Nestled amidst lush tropical rainforest, this beautiful property is set out to impress. Escape away from the busy and hectic life of the city and indulge in the traditional native Bidayuh methods of treatments and therapies offered at the resort. A myriad of attractions are within close proximity, there is the magnificent Jungle Spa, and the area flaunts the most picturesque golf courses in the region. Boasting luxurious Back to Nature-themed rooms and suites, this one-of-a-kind resort is simply an amazing nature retreat. Enjoy walks through the jungle trails, the relaxing dips at the Simangah Waterfall, visiting Kalimantan View Point, bird watching along the edge of the majestic Mountain Penrissen, and experience a horseback ride at the plateau area. If you're looking for a place to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city - this would be it. Staff is very friendly and waited for us to check us in and also cook us dinner since there was not many guests during the week i was there. Air is fresh and crisp. There is no need for air conditioning here.
Great place to relax”
Really great place to relax and run from busy city. The staff really friendly. The food is nice. Great nature and landscape!! Awesome. Just some facilities seems out of service. But overall, is great! should come here guys.
Go for beautiful scenery”
Beautiful view around the place with cool and fresh air. The facilities of the resort is somehow limited. Some part of the resort look run down such as the gym and spa facilities. They have a restaurant that serve vegetarian based food, the taste is just acceptable, nothing much. Limited choice of food for dinner which they serve in big portion and a bit pricey. There's no tv and other entertainment but internet connection and mobile phone works just fine. There is a small shop hat sells souvenir but not that attractive (more to golfers item). It will be good if they could have small playground for young children and vending machine (for drinks or snacks) and to provide more information/promotional leaflet at the counter .
Very good location.”
The highlight of this hotel is the location, beautiful views nice weather, lush green landscape. It has a vegetarian restaurant so meat lovers might be disappointed. Place is far away from main city and nothing else in terms of shopping and eating is accessible from here so keep in mind that fact. Cleanliness at the property is good, but rooms specially bathrooms there is scope of improvement. Though the food was vegetarian it was excellent and we did not feel the need to eat meat for our stay of 3 days. Staff is very friendly.
Nice view and relaxing place.Staff is friendly.Just that the buffet dinner is overpriced(RM47.7) for vegetarian and not much options. Personally the breakfast is better than dinner wiht lower price(around RM22)
driving uphill to the resort is quiet challenging during rainy seasons
Peaceful and stress free”
Staff very friendly and helpful. Peaceful scenery. A great place to release stress. Value for money. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. The only cons i can find is limit choices of food.
It's a beautiful place with no distractions (wifi not available at dinner table and coverage not available) where it's a place where you really get to bond with the people you're with. On top of that you make new friends too. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Might need some minor refurbishment on the insect netting in the room and the sliding doors. Other than that, it's a place to really relax, enjoy the cool air and just bond.
superb location and setting at reasonable price”
I loved the surrounding jungle. Resort grounds are meticulously maintained and there are some interesting trails through the jungle. When I was there, there were very few guests, so it was very peaceful.
Tranquil Stay in the Mountains of Borneo”
The resort is located up in the Highlands well outside of Kuching, so if you are looking for entertainment this is not your place. If you are looking for a peaceful stay in a beautiful location this is the place for you. The surroundings are amazing, great views from the mountain, amazing sunset and sunrise. The facilities are great as well, very rustic mountain cottage type feel. I'm not a golfer but if you are the course their looked amazing as well.
Memorable stay in beautiful suroundings”
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Highlands Resort and would recommend it to anyone visiting Kuching who wants to experience the Borneo highlands. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and there are plenty of walks from the hotel. We enjoyed the walk through the jungle to the Kalimantan view, the views over Indonesia were great, and I climbed Mount Penrissen which was a tough five hour hike but very rewarding. The activities desk was very helpful and you can do guided activities if you want to pay. The hotel was good value for money. The vegetarian menu has some good dishes but would be enhanced by a little more range and creativity. The restaurant staff were very helpful and always made sure we had some iced water after coming back from a walk. The outside pool was out of action when we visited which was a little disappointing but the spar service and pool was very good. We hired a car in Kuching and drove to the resort which gave us a little more flexibility, but the hotel also provides plenty of transport round the resort area and some trips further afield if you want them. We enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere in this lovely place.
Great exercise location but room need maintenance”
I stayed 4D 3N at BHR with my two sisters with the intention to exercise and made the best choice location. Our daily walks starts at 6.45 am till evening cherishing the serene and breathtaking surroundings. The cool weather help us enjoy our walks around the golf course, Kalimantan summit and every corner of the resort soaking in as much negative ions as we could. We had the opportunity to experience both Jungle Cabin and the Clubhouse. Room at Clubhouse is cleaner and decent, nice view to watch sunrise and convenient to use resort facilities. Jungle Cabin has lots of mosquitoes which we overcome by pasting mosquitoes repellant patch on the walls. Stay would be pleasant if toilet is refurnished to be similar to that at Clubhouse. We find it more convenient for walks staying at the Jungle Cabin as the path leading to the Clubhouse is quite steep and tiring for walks. American breakfast served with healthy juice (mix of several fruits) was very satisfying. A must try is the mushroom and pumpkin soups which I enjoyed most. Other meals taken at the only restaurant was hot and delicious. The only inconvenient to BHR is the distance from the city area which means we had to pay extras for transfer from the airport. The highlight of our stay was having a relaxing massage by Margaret. A must try for all who enjoy having massages. My younger sister who was suffering from a swollen thigh thought she was putting on weight but had her thigh reduced by half after two massages. Also, a patch of blood clot (thought to be dirt) dissolved to a smaller patch following the massage. It is amazing to see the difference in the size of her tight when we first arrived and when we left as she could hardly bend her knees before the massage. Our special thanks to Margaret who worked closed to midnight to do the massages for us and came early next morning to do a second one for my sister. I would say, she has made our stay at BHR a memorable and enjoyable one with her super
Beautiful resort and spacious cabin”
Impressed by the big and spacious property and beautiful surrounding. Place well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. Jungle cabin room is spacious but bathroom needs repair - toilet seat is detached, toilet door rotting and water puddles. Food although vegetarian is very tasty and fresh.
Back to nature. Fantastic environment without technology. Toilet needs to improve please. ”
Nice place for you to enjoy nature with your loved ones. Food was delicious. You must walk from the resort to Kalimantan view point. It is about 3km one way. Good exercise and beautiful scenery around the golf course - MUST TRY ! Toilet needs to improve tho. It smells when we entered the room. Overall i would give 7/10. If you could improve the toilet, you have 10/10 for my rating.
beautiful and nice place to stay with loved ones...
Thing maintain clean. But old already.
Rundown and unkept”
The nature is the only real attraction here. Everything else was in poor condition. The pool was under maintenance, the window netting was broken, the window wood closure was jammed, the toilet eventually blocked. As for the overall environment, nothing much to do except the Kalimantan view point. The flower nursery wasnt very interesting and the gardens were not insta worthy. The FB at the hotel only serves vegan food and there are no other eateries nearby. Overall, the weather was similar to Cameron Highlands if not better. But the establishment should really improve and add more attractions, like growing more lavendar, roses and orchids. Market and sales local organic vegatables. Provide more kids friendly activities like horse riding.
Rooms with stains in the sheets, misleading signs and extra fees to pay to go to the resort.”
1. We were not informed that there would be a rm50 fee to drive us up and down the mountain. You can drive up and down at your own risk but it is a very steep and dangerous drive. 2. The pillow cases and sheets have stains on them. I cant seem to upload photos here. 3. There is hardly anything around unless youre willing to pay rm30 for a tour or walk several km for a garden. We saw a sign saying there was a view point 2km away, after speaking to a staff we were informed that it is actually a 4.3km walk. I will not recommend anyone coming here and that you would get a better deal at airbnb or going to a beach resort
1. The hotel was run down and old 2. Not worth the price of RM684 for a room (booked through Agoda) 3. Room was in bad conditions -Broken window net (there's another side of the window without the netting), broken bed (my husband and brother got injured by the sharp end of the broken bed), toilet smell of pee (must be from the drainage. The smell is still there even after we clean the toilet ourself), mattress was hard, limited pillows (1 pillow per person), no TV, mini fridge is not working 4. Poor wifi connection in room and no wifi in hotel lobby and surrounding 5. Hotel facilities was in worst state -Pool and jazuki were dirty, full of insects/bugs and never been clean for ages. -Sauna were not open and not in presentable conditions -Gym were not operating. You have to turn on all the lights yourself. Bad smell inside. No air ventilation, dirty and equipments were in bad shape. -Rooftop viewing point - nothing much to see except insects/bugs -Plenty of run down area. 6. No entertainment and facilities to enjoy. Not much of flower to see. The only good thing was there were a few horses and you can find a lot of insects/bugs around the hotel. If you hate insect/bug, well then, good luck. Hahahah... 7. Nothing to explore around except trekking activities and the Kalimantan view point. 8. Limited food and beverages menu. -Choice for dinner (ala carte) only basic vege, rice, noodle, vegetarian meat (they served no meat here). For breakfast buffet, only fried noodle, scramble eggs, toast, porridge, roasted potatoes, baked bean, banana, coffee/tea/juice were served. -Poor lighting in dinning area. It's too dark. Can't see our food. 9. It's not that cold (22-24°C). So, dress up normally or just bring 1-2 long sleeve shirt/pant. 10. View of the mountain and clouds were great. Nice breeze. Not very peaceful as you can hear people screaming and shouting from nearby houses till late night. 11. All staff were friendly but very slow (reception). #Please bring plenty of f
Nice place to relax.”
Clean, fresh air, quiet, peaceful. A good place to reflect and relax.
