BP Chiang Mai City Hotel
Located in Ratchamanka Road close to Sunday market. Large rooms and some have nice view. Pool area is a bit run down and mattresses in lilos in poor condition. While water in pool looked clear there was obvious debris on bottom and I never saw any anyone cleaning it.
The hotel's location is in the center of the Old District so it's close to many things but quiet and peaceful after the sun goes down. The nearby eateries range from typical over-priced tourist food spots to very local and affordable options. If you stay here, don't book the breakfast option online, just pay at the hotel and it's way cheaper (150 baht for a large buffet breakfast of local & western cuisine). If you're looking for a quiet, spacious place to relax while traveling, this is a very good option.
This hotel is a little far but there is a lot of food places along the way to the main streets. Its closed to my favourite club and its a street away from the Sunday night market.
Chiang Mai downtown Basecamp lodging”
Older hotel that has been renovated, provides great accommodation located in walking distance of pretty much any destination and had parking. A good breakfast can be included in the room charge. Rooms are addequate and clean. Room service is good and consistent. The hotel can accommodate large groups and events.
Comfort & Convenience in Chiang Mai City Center”
Great hotel with A TERRIFIC BREAKFAST BUFFET every morning, from 6 am to 10 am - with lots of great food, coffee, and service. The hotel is big but very interesing, and has a small pool and gym to enjoy - but the location is great: close to airport (100-150 bhat taxi or tuktuk), lots of tours come here, many international travelors all over to talk to, great places to enjoy and relax in common areas, internet slow but everywhere, night bus to night market every day at 7 pm. Just great services and place to start exploring Chiang Mai and temples, tours, and area. The staff is limited in English but did a great job in helping us with everything. We had a problem with some young Chinese tourists who stole stuff from us at the pool when we went to lunch, but the Thai people and staff were so gracious, honest, helpful and lovely. We will be back - it's a great value.
Good budget choice”
Had a great stay- used the pool a few times and everything you need is on the block if you cant be bothered walking too far- motorbike and bike hire, tour offices across the road, 7-11 around the corner, coffee shops, massages, laundry and restaurants over the road. Its in the middle of old town, so its right in between Night, Saturday and Sunday markets- nothing is more than 1km away and there is always taxis out front. The place is clean, service staff very friendly (though front desk refused to give tour discounts, so I'd shop around) but everyone is helpful and I couldn't have asked for any more.
A very enjoyable stay!”
We were pleasantly surprised with our stay here. The hotel is located in the Old City and close to a number of very interesting temples. As others pointed out, the bathrooms could use an upgrade but the hotel is clean, the beds comfortable, a large flat screen television with many English speaking channels. The Wi-Fi worked excellent in our room and everywhere in hotel. And did I mention they have a great little pool for cooling off after a hot day hiking around town? The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The front desk helped us book a trip to Chiang Rai and everything worked out great. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. You will be hard pressed to find a better value for the money. I'd also recommend booking your hotel with the included breakfast. The breakfast has a good selection of both western and Asian items and you could even get omelets or eggs cooked to order. Coffee, tea, juice, toast and a good selection of fresh fruits were also available. Next trip to Chiang Mai I won't need to research a place to stay, I'll be staying here.
Hotel with great facilities”
Worth staying for visits inside the Old City historical sites. There is a famous restaurant along this road i.e. by walking on the left hand side (when we exit the hotel towards the main road, Ratchamanka Rd.). Wat Chedi Luang(temple) is on the left hand side at the first cross junction (Prapokkloa Road) further up from Rachamanka Rd. Walking Street Sunday Market along Thonon Rachadamnoen Alley, which if you spend the whole afternoon at the temple, the street market is just on the left hand side of the temple gate entrance. Go to the market early as the market stretch is super long. B55etter bargains at this market compared to Changklan Road night market.
Lovely location in Old City”
i liked the hotel for the price, nothing to complain about, the location was great in the old city of chiang mai and it was close to everything so it was convenient to walk around. the staff were very helpful with guiding me. all in all it was a good stay for me.
Cheap affordable stay at great location”
the hotel is right in the old city, close to the main (sun market) street. the stay was comfortable and the hotel was very good at its price. the breakfast was awesome and you can be filled for the day ahead. there was wireless internet too!
Good hotel but small improvements would help.”
No wifi in the room! Lobby computer often didn't work or was extrtemely slow. breakfast fair omly. Often the burners undernesth the food went out or were put out = cold food. Tea had little tast. Best to have tea bags. bread was the horrible seet starch type of bread.
Huge hotel in a reasonable location within a ten minute walk to the nightlife. Cheap rooms and may well be more targeted towards thai guests although there were several other westerners staying there as well as us.
3 nights at Chiang Mai ”
I put up my stay at BP ChiangMai city hotel from 14-17th December 08. Perhaps due to the recent Suvarnabhumi Airport closure incident, there were not many tourists around. There are a number of Tour/Travel agent along the Sunday Market street near the hotel. As our stay at ChiangMai was quite long (4D3N), upon arrival we signed up with a tour agent opposite Wat PhraSing for one full day trip to ChiangRai + Golden Triangle + Mae Sai + Hill Tribes + Hot Spring. Sunday market is something not to be missed as it is just a walking distance from the Hotel. As for the night bazaar, the hotel provided free shuttle service at every 8pm. I would highly recommend this hotel to all budget traveler/ even middle class travellers, or anyone who shares the same concept with me, i.e. I just need a decent and safe place to sleep for the night throughout my traveling period.
A pleasant stay ”
The hotel looks tired and could do with a refurbishment. The rooms are large and comfortable. The swimming pool is good and the buffet breakfast is good value for money. The machines in the fitness room don’t work. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s location is good for the shops and restaurants and attractions.
Dirty with bad beds ”
Apparently this place does not know how to clean or they are unable to purchase paint and a paint brush in town. There are mild spots on the roof on the main level. The place is in desperate need of a cleaning and new paint. The beds are uncomfortable. I wish I had picked somewhere else.
Don't stay here unless you have to”
The only upside is that the property is in a good location, fairly close to the Sunday night market. But although the price is good at the BP hotel everything else isn't. The front desk staff are not welcoming. The hallways feel like the shining. The shower had mold in it. And the pool looks nothing like the pictures and gets no afternoon sun. The lobby looks nice and I have no doubt that when it was first built it was a great property but it feels like no maintenance has been performed on the place since then. There are plenty of small boutique hotels similar in price where you will find a warmer welcome and much cleaner, enjoyable stay in Chiang Mai.
It was close to everything but the bathroom had mold on the tiles and the toilet had was stained and first it wouldn't flush and the swimming pool and gym where closed
Large and cheap hotel in the old centre of Chiang Mai. Good and large rooms. But the hotels exterior and Interior need serious maintainance Also the hotels cleaniness needs serious attention. But all of this compared with the price, there's no reason to complain about this. Just see this as an objective feedback.
Overall is good”
Tired but elegant”
An older hotel that could certainly use an update, but the location can't be beat, breakfast buffet had MANY thai and western options, the room was quite large, and had a bathtub! First one I've seen in Thailand.
