Location great but out dated”
Was a nice hotel very outdated nice to have smoking or non smoking rooms next door is the theatre and weatherspoons over the road so can get very noisy at night single glass windows but is over powered by heating turned quite high up so no getting a cold. The staff were friendly and helpful well presented and gave good customer service. The room was huge in a family room clean sheets and free tea and coffee making facilities in the room only downside was that WiFi can only be used in lobby area and no food or drink outside of the hotel can be brought in so no sneaky snacks in the night or a few drinks before going out

Not luxury but clean and good value for money. Exceptionally friendly staff including Greek receptio”
Have stayed here before and was quite satisfied. This time room was small but clean. Not luxury and some small things not perfect (shower control hole left uncovered, bath chipped, but bed comfy, room warm on a cold day and staff exceptionally friendly. I would stay again

Good location”
It is near the train and bus station. Clean and cosy rooms. We arrived almost midnight and we could just walk over. The staff attended to us promtly.

Very dated and disappointing facility”
Where to start? The lift was the slowest I've ever seen, even the door seemed to be arthritic taking an age just to slide open. Rooms are small and awkward, like they were shoehorned in with a mallet. The bathroom floor was very slippery when wet and there were no hand rails or mats so you take your life in your own hands when climbing out of the shower. The Shower took ages to warm up, I gave up and watched 10 minutes of TV while waiting. The corridors are narrow, have random steps here and there and have those silly twin doors, the ones that are really narrow and need to be opened on both sides, requiring 2 hands, so how you carry your bags to your room is not exactly straight forwards. There's no parking, nearest I found was an NCP car park at £7.50 for 24 hours, you can only pay in either 2, 4 or 24 hour slots so add that to the overall bill when comparing to other hotels. Its located in the heart of town, so quite noisy, luckily I had some ear plugs with me, but even with them, the noise from the Wetherspoons pub over the road was clearly audible and then the Buses, well if the noise doesn't wake you, the vibration will shake you out of bed instead. They lock the main door at night, you can still get in by ringing the bell and going through a multi point security check. Internet is only available in the lobby, however with everyone else using it I gave up and switched to 4G in my room, again, add that expense to the overall room cost and parking fees and its not looking like such a great deal any more. Did I mention the big bold warning not to bring any food or drink from outside in, I don't know what would happen if you got caught, maybe some form of medieval torture, maybe a frowned expression upon checking out, I don't know, but I can tell you that I haven't even mentioned the peeling wall paper, the bathrooms moldy marks, the smeg blocking the sink from draining, the narrow toilet paper they supply (seriously, about half the width of a normal roll

Access to rooms not easy”
As this premise appears to be old, there are not many elevators in the building. We had to walk through long narrow corridors and steps to get from one booked room to another as we were not given rooms on the same floor.

Completely awful customer service”
We arrived to be placed in a room next to a loud wedding reception taking place in the hotel's function room. We then found out we had no electricity in the room (no lights except from the tv). When we called reception they said someone would come up but no one did. We called 3 times whilst sitting in a dark room before we just went down to reception. One of the receptionists was rude and unapologetic- she asked if we wanted to wait in reception and told us there were no other rooms available. After continuing to complain we were put in another, bigger room on the 3rd floor where we could no longer hear the wedding and had working lighting. It was an awful experience made worse by rude staff. I would never stay here again.

Big disappointment ”
The exterior
Room was dirty and smelt of cigarettes. On arriving there was no one on reception and no bell or buzzer to get anyone's attention so was kept waiting around 10 minutes before someone checked me in.

Comfortable stay and excellent value for money”
Room quite and warm, location very close to station, staff friendly and helpful
I had a very pleasant overnight stay at the Britannia Hotel. It is conveniently located for the station and excellent value for money. My room (311) was clean and warm and comfortable.
