Affordable and great location”
this hostel is a rare gem in New York. It is affordable and convenient - something you don't find often in New York. It is great that the hostel is not located near the busy city center. Instead, it is hidden in a residential neighborhood that has everything you need - restaurants, groceries, and even a mobile phone shop if you need to get a sim card. the subway gets you to downtown Manhattan and the attractions in about 15 minutes. i stayed in a two-bed dorm (another rarity in New York). while the room is spartan, it is sufficiently comfortable - the towel and sheets are replaced daily, and there is a small sink for washing up. your sleep quality is affected mainly by two things - environmental sounds (eg footsteps outside, traffic, pigeons outside the window) and the creaky bedframes. the bathrooms are all clean and you do not need to wait long to use them. the common areas are good for hanging out and doing minor food preparations like warming up food (no kitchen). my only complaint is that when a lot of people are in the common area using the WiFi, it is impossible to get a stable connection. the staff are all helpful and friendly. i am happy i stayed here and highly recommend it to anyone visiting NY on a budget.

Good Price, good place”
The hotel is in the northern part of Broadway, which is not so rumourous than the world famous part with all the theatres. There are 3 stops of the subway close to the Hotel - so you can reach the tourist places by subway very fast. My room was one of the cheap ones, which has a hostel flair. But there is everything you need - the bathroom is out of the room, but there are two bathrooms on that part of the floor. The personal is very kind. The rooms are cleaned every day. There is a good bagel on the other side of the Broadway quite close to the hotel.

Great location and wonderful service”
My husband and I wanted to visit New York City to site see but didn't want to spend our entire budget on the hotel. This hostel was perfect! Our room wasn't fancy, with just a bunk bed and sink, but it was clean and was a great price. The community bathrooms were also very clean and we never had to wait to use one. It's in a great location just a few blocks from the subway but is still in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again!

Cool and very comfortable hostel!”
was apprehensive about my stay in a private room with shared bathroom at broadway hotel after a bad hostel experience in boston. there was absolutely nothing to worry about though. the room was comfortable and nicely painted with lovely proper hotel bedding. we had a basin in our room which is handy for teeth brushing etc. bathrooms were almost directly across the hall and were individual rooms with a toilet, sink and shower in each rather than the usual male/female block of toilets/showers. never had to wait. while the hotel is a fair way up town, it is only 2 blocks to the subway and close to central park. there was free wi-fi but only in the lobby and downstairs area, but that was ok as they have couches, bar tables and tvs etc. there is also a little kitchen area and there is an absolutely amazing market with all sorts of gourmet delights (pre-prepared or cook yourself) just a couple of blocks down. a really good option if you dont want to spend too much on pricey hotels in nyc and just need a place to sleep and shower.

Great value for the price”
I wanted a low-cost place to stay in Manhattan's Upper West Side. The hotel is quite old, the room was small, and I didn't mind at all. I didn't spend much time in the room as I was out exploring the city, especially Central Park, which is a short walk away. The staff are awesome and very helpful. This hotel is bare-bones but a great place to stay if you're only going to be sleeping there. NYC is awesome, get out of your room and explore it!

Clean safe value for money for single travelers ”
In expensive new York city, this hotel is very affordable and value for money esp for single travelers. Took the 2bed dorm which was clean and spacious. Sheets were changed every day and fresh towels given. Shared toilets were very well maintained throughout the day, with at 4-6 at each level. Lifts were rickety as per old buildings in the U.S; slow moving but served us well. Location was excellent and safe; very close to 103West subway and situated in a residential area that is littered with several fresh food supermarkets and various diners. Lovely 40-45 min walk to mid town, or 5-10 min by subway. Will most likely stay here again if visiting NYC alone but will try other hotels in midtown (due convenience) otherwise.

best upper west side hostel”
The best hostel in upper west side. It is right at the corner of broadway, and 2 blocks away from 103rd subway station. Lots of eateries nearby. Very friendly staff. Special mention to Eunice. Customer service was hotel like, even if it's a hostel. They assisted me with my luggage, and was very flexible when it comes to room transfer. Common area was cozy. Lots of food on the fridge, but it is a hostel, and really cheap for an upper west side location.

Pretty good deal for a place to crash”
Need a room to crash in for a Friday/Saturday night in NYC. Note this is actually a hostel and officially does not allow any NY state residents to get a room, guests also not allowed after 8PM on the policy. I took the cheapest deal I could find, a shared room with double bunk beds. Room included two lockers, floors have vinyl tiles, no carpeting. Roommate from Germany checked in a few hours after me around 2AM. Was able to sleep pretty peacefully, but of course I was exhausted each night. Bed sheets were changed the next day, no sign of bed bugs. Bring your own toiletries, including soap, shampoo! Used the floor's shared bathroom/shower at 6AM, no issues with hot water or waiting for other people. The lobby/lounge area is pretty nice with sofas, TV, bar. I accidentally left a gold chain/cross hanging in the locker after I checked out, front desk did find and retrieve it and put it inside the office to pick up with ID. So I'm pretty happy with this hostel, would stay there again.

Great location and friendly, helpful staff”
Although I've never stayed at a hostel before and wasn't sure what to expect, I thought Broadway was decent. The best feature was the location; this hostel is uptown but very close to the subway, so I was able to get down to Time Square within 15 minutes, which was great as more centrally located places were much more expensive. Like a lot of places in New York, this building is pretty old, nevertheless, the rooms were kept clean and the entire space was fairly well maintained. There is no wifi in the rooms, though it's available in a common room, so this is more of an inconvenience rather than deal-breaker. The only thing that made me uncomfortable was the elevator. The elevator lights do not work, and the shaking, claustrophobic confines of this ancient elevator makes riding it up an uneasy experience. Then, when the elevator arrives on a floor, you have to push through a door to get to the rooms which made it a bit sketchy. I would recommend the hostel upgrade their elevator so new guests don't have a "what did I get myself into" sort of feeling when they first arrive, as the actual experience is decent overall.

Can't Recommend”
First, the positives of this hotel. The location is great - on the Upper West Side, 2 blocks away from a subway stop at 103rd and a slightly longer walk to the Express stop at 96th. Plenty of restaurants in walking distance, Central Park's not too far away - it's very convenient. Additionally, the staff were very friendly, and there were some nice touches, like free popcorn in the lobby. However, the beds were quite uncomfortable, and the rooms very small. While the rooms have TV, it had free channels over the antenna only - it's been a long time since I've been in a hotel (in the US) that didn't have at least basic cable. Finally, the shared bathrooms were poor - there weren't enough bathrooms for the guests since they were pretty much always busy, and in one of them there was visible rust in the bathtub. Ultimately, I paid just a few dollars shy of $150 for one night in this hotel. I get that New York is expensive, but frankly for that much money I expect more than I got.

Value for money”
I arrived at the Broadway Hotel as a student waiting to enroll at a nearby university - I picked the hotel, therefore, almost purely based on its great location. It was nonetheless pleasing to see that the staff were helpful and the room clean. I would recommend it particularly to travelers on a budget since the subway isn't far off at all either.

Convenience & Reasonable”
Reasonable price for everything you need. Neat and Clean bedrooms with a shower and toilet inside room. Was good value for money. It’s New York so it does get a bit noisy during the night but nothing to excessive. It’s 3 blocks from the train station and a block away from Starbucks.

Artsy, eclectic building with superb staff!”
I booked last minute due to a travel obstacle. Not only was I over-satisfied with the location, price and customer service - when I got there I was given an upgraded room due to no availability of my original reservation request. The front desk girl was so considerate and helpful! She arranged my shuttle and wake up service - a knock on the door to make sure I was awake due to my check-in at 11 p.m. and shuttle pick-up at 3:30 a.m.! I could have been happier to find this hotel compared to my alternative of sleeping at the airport!

Budget Hotel”
Location is in the north side of the upper west side. a block away from the Metro station at 103rd street. Very few places around the are for food and drinks, but you're only 2-3 stops away from the bars area in upper west side. Every 2-3 room, share a bathroom. They probably do not clean the bathroom as frequently during the day as they should.

Excellent”
Several blackouts over a period of 3 days (evening & morning), therefore elevator not usable. Otherwise our stay was pleasant and we might book the hotel again when we visit NY in the future.

Great location”
We were travelling on a limited budget so did not have much choice in hotels. Broadway hotel was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The location is very close to central park and an easy metro ride anywhere. There's also a great bagel place over the road.
