Uniquely authentic, lovingly restored, yet wholly natural, Brockley Estate is both an escape into nature and an immersion in Tasmanian history. Your stay here is an experience entirely different from what you might expect in conventional so-called ‘colonial’ accommodation.
The 170-year-old sandstone and convict brick homestead blends seamlessly into 10,000 acres of traditional Tasmanian landscape surroundings, with generous verandahs, ancient English trees and hawthorn hedges stretching down to the wide Prosser River.
Inside, mellow antique furniture, rustic textiles, original pictures and collectible ceramics exude an atmosphere of effortless elegance and good taste that can’t be found in commercial replications. Accommodations here combine Victorian charm with modern comforts, with precise details such as claw-footed enameled bathtubs and nickel faucets completing the immersive atmosphere.
With home-cooked, locally sourced food and wine of a quality rarely encountered in a B&B anywhere in Australia, this is genuine colonial country life as it really was and, one hopes, always will be if you know where to look.

My happy stay at Brockley Estate”
It was relaxing and had a great time during my stay at Brockley Estate. The address was a bit tricky to find, however, the owner, gave us the direction and we got there without a problem. Perhaps more signs will be helpful. Thanks.
Retire in a country manor and feel right at home..”
This truly beautiful historic house is set on a large estate only an hour or so from Hobart. The managers have carefully restored the property but not overdone it. Whilst the food is a little on the pricey side ($45 for dinner / $20 for breakfast - not included in the rate when booking on Agoda), the quality is excellent and you really feel it's cooked with love. For something with athmosphere and history - highly recommended!
Authentic homestead in the beautiful countryside”
If you’ve ever wanted to experience how it is to live in an authentic homestead and go on a ramble in the beautiful countryside, Brockley Estate is the place for you. We stayed in the Cooks’ and Steward’s room and to be honest, it was rather fun to clamber up and down the steep staircase, and it was really nice to be able to open the windows at daybreak, take in the fresh air and listen to all the animals waking up in the countryside. Above all, Julian and Chaxi are excellent, gracious hosts who have gone out their way to make our stay memorable and wonderful in every way. Chaxi’s Spanish cuisine was delicious, especially the crème brulee, and the yummy bread baked by Julian is something that we couldn’t have enough of. Despite having had a busy day, Julian graciously drove us out in the cold of the night do some “spotlighting” (looking for wildlife). We also enjoyed visiting the farm dogs and chickens. On the morning that we were leaving, Julian and Chaxi had let their first batch of chicks out on their own for the first time. I hope they are fine and healthy, and I think they will be, for Brockley Estate is such a beautiful place to grow and live in. It is a perfect place to bring one’s family for a sojourn!
