Better food options: particularly needs a better breakfast menu. Considering that I had booked about a month in advance, I should have received rooms closer to each other particularly as the buggies are unavailable after 10.
Man in jungle”
when we book the hotel, we already know that bunga raya is a great place for water sport. We did sailing, swimming and snokerling in this island. In addition, we have joined the 2km hiking activity and the canopy walk organised by this hotel and the guide was very friendly and have a closet look to a lot of plant species and animals like lizard and monkey. We have a great time in this hotel and would recommend to anyone who love nature stuff.
Good but can be improved”
The location is amazing, the villas are beautiful, surrounding by the jungle, what was a bit disappointing is the overall maintenance of the exteriors , it seemed a bit neglected, more attention to detail would be nice as an example when cleaning the alleys, the beach or some parts of the garden were not cleaned and you could find plastics and garbage, the tiles of the swiming pool were loose and broken.
We wish to thank the manager and staff for making our stay as comfortable as possible. It was unfortunate that the monsoon winds brought to much rubbish to the shores, but the place and facilities were great. The food was a bit pricey compared to other places we stayed. The pool was amazing as well as the location amongst the forest.
It wasn't extra-ordinarily luxurious which is what I would expect for the price we paid. The food and drinks were extortionately priced and the hotel was good but it just looked tired, old and rundown. It wasn't good value for money.
We love this island, it is Beautiful environment. but Local foods are very expensive. ”
We requested agoda our transport from kk airport to the jetty. You charged 144 rm for one way. On our way back, we took a taxi, we knew it was only 30rm from jetty to kk airport. It is too expensive to take your transport. There is more than 100rm difference.
The best resort ever”
It was so nice to stay with nature around all the time. The swimming pool is good enough for young kids and the beach is everywhere from the resort. Rooms are perfect to stay with clean, and Workers are always nice. Room rate is little bit high, but it was covered by all services. Strongly recommend to stay.
Staff are friendly and try their best to help. Boat transfer is available to go to Gayana Eco Resort and so we went there for Marine Eco Centre. However, the reception staff at Jesselton Point told us no boat transfer was available between Gayana Eco Resort and Bunga Raya Island Resort. The water quality at Gayana Eco Resort was quite bad, I am glad that I have booked Bunga Raya Island Resort. I will definitely stay in Bunga Raya Island Resort again and bring my kid there to get close to the wild animals.
This is the most beautiful and nice resort I have been. Villa with pool is very cool. Wild life all around, beautiful beach at front. Huge bedroom and bath room. We joined short and sweet package, it comes with romance setting, welcome wine, dinner, spa and Corol painting course, everything are just perfect.
One of the best resorts in South East Asia”
I would say this is probably the best resort in Malaysia. Even well-trained staff in luxury 5-star chain would not be able to have the level of attention and service that this resort could provide. one suggestions for visitor is to check for their sea-view villas before make reservation, as the view varies quite a lot from rooms to rooms.
My boyfriend and I spent 3 days at Bunga raya island resort, in a standard villa. On our arrival we received this delicious welcoming pink guava juice, then we were introduced to our personal assistant and golf car driver..My boyfriend and I were quite impressed ! Our standard villa was just great ! Spacious balcony/terrace and room. The room and bathroom were very well equipped. Being surrounded by the "jungle" and the beach was just a great feeling and peaceful experience. I would recommend the jungle trek and then snorkeling at padang point, your personal guide will take you all the way through the jungle to reach this idyllic snorkeling/diving spot. The food was delicious at bunga raya, we loved the pinta grill on the beach (picnic style), good quality and fresh products. We were a bit disappointed by the allu allu restaurant from gayana resort, the service was slow and average and the food not worth the price. I would recommend this resort to anyone who needs a break from our hectic business lives.. Even a short stay at Bunga Raya would recharge your batteries and put a smile on your face ! BIG THANK YOU to the staff who were absolutely wonderful and helpful !!!!!!
Perfect Eco Hotel, slightly poor execution. ”
The hotel is located on a separate island from KK town and has the perfect setting for an Eco Hotel with room built atop hills and surrounded by trees. But in the 3days we were there, the technician came four times to fix the toilet, telephone and air conditioning.
Sensational facility and private location in it's own secluded bay but still close enough to KK. One of the best beaches we have ever experienced. Very attentive and professional staff - highly recommend.
Great room, great view but it makes us felt like being trap”
We arrived at Bunga Raya Resort anticipating a blissful getaway but it was dissapointing overall. While the island and the room are great. They left a batik his & her for guests as a gift which is a nice touch. The rooms are built with your privacy in mind. There is even a small bottle of bugs/sandflies repellent in the fridge for guests usage. The free access to non motorised water equipment is welcome and the infinity pool is refreshing. There is no private boat but a scheduled boat to access the island. We were not in all inclusive package, hence subjected to roti canai that cost as much as having em in New York. We won’t mind as much if they only have ONE OVERPRICED restaurant but at least make the foods great or in-par with the pricing but the Rendang dish my bf ordered (please note that he is French) and his review is, its same quality as the office canteen rendang. As a Malaysian, its difficult to tolerate overpriced and sub-par foods. The breakfast was dissapointing. My suggestion to guests are, please bring your own foods. The staff are not very well coordinated, the staff that welcome us explained there is a complimentary cocktails during dinner but the dining crews have no idea bout that at all. Don’t expect wine list. Somehow we felt there will be charges for every lil needs while being trapped in an island with only one resort and having no options.
Very disappointed trip.”
Actually I'm so excited to check on this place with my gf,arrived the location ...staff services was great & the dining place & foods was great too. Unfortunately in the middle of night,I was bitten by a centipede...a quiet huge & in red colour around 3am..Me & my gf can't sleep anymore and she was panic.we called the receptionist requested to send us to the nearest clinic but the nearest one will be in kk city..so we have to take the boat and back to kk town. The doctor gave me an injection, and the hotel side informed their manager to call us,but at the moment...we didn't receive any phones call yet or their concerning about this matter.A bit disappointed holiday. I hopefully this hotel can manage well with their pest control to avoid all this things happen again in future.Guys, just imagine if you have kids? I think it's too dangerous .
Amazing Place to Stay!”
We stayed at Bunga Raya for 3 nights, and really enjoyed it! The bungalows are huge, with large balconies and a lot of space inside. They are very tastefully decorated and overall we were very impressed with them. There are 2 restaurants on-site, both of which served good food for prices that were respectable. The staff are by far the best thing about the resort, as they are incredibly friendly and helpful. Whether it's cleaning the beach, working in the restaurant, or driving the buggies around, they were always smiling and making our stay enjoyable. We ended up wishing we stayed longer!
Two nights at Bunga Raya Island Resort”
My wife and I stayed at Bunga Raya for a relaxing end to our two week holiday in Sabah. Once we emerged from the floating ocean waste near the water villages and turned around the far end of the island we found a totally different scene, it was fairly clean and the island forest dominant. We were disappointed that we spent some time swimming in the bay expecting coral reefs, only to find out on pour departure that the 'real' reefs are on the Sapi Island side of Gaya Island. We regret not arranging a boat trip around, or hiking all the way over the other side and snorkeling there, then catch a boat transfer back. Apart from that the facilities were first class, the staff very friendly and the location quite private.
NOT A 5 STAR RESORT”
This was our 2nd visit to Bunga Raya Resort. Stayed in the plunge pool villa. But this time was very disappointing. Firstly we didn't have anyone collect us from the airport as arranged. Once arriving at resort we found the water to be dirty and full of rubbish. Breakfast on the 1st morning was nice - service and food very good. But 2nd & 3rd day breakfast was terrible, no staff asked us for our order or even for coffee or tea, even though there was plenty of staff around. Food at the resort is very expensive 19 RM for a can of Coke ($6) 241 RM for grilled fish ($80) 1st night we asked for fish to be told it will take 45 mins. Ordered beef instead which was still raw inside and took 40 mins anyway. 2nd night went to dinner early hoping to order grilled snapper, which we did. Only to be told 10 mins later it wasn't available after taking our order. Worse thing about the resort was on the 2nd day we realized we had BED BUGS in our room. We had bites all over us, at first we thought they were mosquitoes bites because they were rampant thought the resort. We informed reception and asked for bedding to be changed. Another night and we were still attacked by the BED BUGS, so we knew they were in the mattress. At checkout I asked the girl if they knew about the BED BUGS because they must have had other people complain, but she said she was new and didn't know. We had booked a late checkout for 3:15 pm (paid $350 extra) and also a private boat ($70) at 3:30pm. The boat didn't arrive till 4:20pm I think the hotel forgot to book us a boat and we nearly missed our flight.
It was fantastic!!”
Everything was perfect! We really enjoyed our honeymoon. Villa and other facilities were fabulous, nature in Gaya island was absolutely beautiful and private. Especially, I was really thankful to employees, they were very kind and nice. We'll definitely visit this villa again.
Flop and drop at its finest”
From the moment we arrived at the ferry terminal, the staff were so friendly and accomodating. We stayed in a Beachside Villa with the plunge pool, and our hardest decision was whether to swim in the ocean (about 20m) or just go for the easy option of the pool (approx 5m from bed). Couldn't recommend this place highly enough for couples. We were on our honeymoon and it was perfect. Would go back.
