Easy to find hotel located near Potato Head. If coming from the airport, you can take the green MRT line and get off at Outram Park EW16 station, exit 4 and walk straight until you see the temple on your right-hand side. Walk a bit further and you will see Potato Head. The hotel is on the left-hand side and within walking distance to Chinatown, Maxwell, and Shake Shack Neil Road. It is also not far from the bus stop. As a solo traveler to Singapore, I have stayed here multiple times and read many reviews before booking. Some people have encountered good staff, while others have had bad experiences, so expectations should not be too high. However, I have been lucky to encounter only friendly and helpful staff who provide good service every time I pass by. I stayed in room No.111 on the first floor, which is the smallest room with no windows or refrigerator, but it does have a TV, Wi-Fi, a safe, a water dispenser, and a shower. If you prefer more space or are concerned about feeling cramped, it is recommended to book a room with a window or balcony instead. Personally, I like to go out and explore the area, so I prefer the S Room without Window, which is not far from the bus stop and is quiet at night. The price is comparable to some hostels or may even be cheaper, but the hotel provides private bathrooms and a shower. You may hear some noise from the neighboring rooms, but it is not too bothersome. The hotel has a coin-operated water dispenser that provides both drinking water and cold soda, which is a relief after a long day of sightseeing. There is also a 7-11 nearby, and Potato Head is only a few rooms away. If you like a particular room, it is recommended to book it quickly as they fill up fast. If I have the chance to visit Singapore again, I would choose to stay at this hotel again.

The small room is clean and comfortable to sleep in. It is cleaned every day. To get there, take the train to Otumpark station and exit through gate 4. Turn left and pass the bus stop sign, then turn right at the temple. The place you are looking for will be on your left.
Great value for money with caveats”
For the price paid was great value, but it is cheap for a reason. Location at Chinatown was quite convenient, a 5 minute walk from Outram Park MRT exit 4. Check in was smooth at the refurbished lobby, 100 SGD deposit required by cash or card. The lift has also been replaced with a brand new one, so unlike previous reviewers I had no issues. It still only goes up to level 3 though. Despite the central location, room was quiet and had no noise concerns. No restaurant inside, though many venues at doorstep open at all hours of day. Window was present in this room, though could not be opened (but I wouldn't even if I could). Rooms are small but this is somewhat expected for Singapore standards. Beds were again small single beds but clean. Complimentary bottled water was provided and WiFi worked without issues in my room. However, the room had a noticeable smelt of mildew whenever the air conditioning was off. Given the AC required the actual room card (can't use any random card), every time you left the room you would return to this smell until the AC had time to work its magic. AC filter also had some dust on it. If you are sensitive to dust/mildew would not recommend. Shower was a small 'wet room' with no separation between shower/toilet/sink. This means the whole bathroom becomes wet if you're not careful showering. Shower water was warm but had insufficient pressure. Was mostly clean but a few marks that couldn't be removed along the silicone sink edges. Recommend keeping the bathroom door closed even if not using bathroom, as hot stuffy air from vent would seep into room. Overall there are definitely some caveats, but if you are not too concerned this place is great value for a short budget trip. If you have a larger budget, probably still better off at the big chain hotels though.

We chose to stay in a family room with a balcony. The room was really spacious and comfy for 3 people. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our check-in time is 3:00pm and we arrive at the hotel around 9:00am to drop off our luggage so we can start exploring Singapore. I ask if my mom can stay in the guest lounge because she was sick while waiting for our check in time and the staff, Nahnah tells us that if there is room she will speed up the cleaning so we can get in. Long story short, we we’re able to get in our room around 11:00am😊 The bathroom was very spacious and clean with a bidet. They also provide disposable comb, razor, shower cap and water bottle. The location was great. The nearest Mrt stations are Chinatown, Outram Park and Maxwell Station. Walking distance to Maxwell Food centre, chinatown and Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. There are bars/restaurant and a 7/11 nearby. A security deposit of Sgd 100 is required upon check-in either in cash or by credit/debit card. We chose cash and it was returned at checkout. I would definitely book this place next time I visit SG.

A variety of restaurants surrounding the hotel and walking distance to Maxwell Food Centre. Location is near to bus-stop and 3 MRT stations. After reading an Agoda review, Outram MRT station was my preferred stop, pathway to hotel is from exit 4. Being a solo traveller, I chose a room which was basic, no window but sufficient as I only needed a bed. Room space can accommodate a luggage. Sufficient hangers and racks, provides hair dryer, mini safe, kettle and hot beverage sachets. Bathroom amenities includes dental kit, floor is clean. Provides 2-in-1 bath gel-cum-shampoo I suppose. If particular, bring your own. Room does not provide slippers. The shower is in an awkward position in the small bathroom but functional. Place the toilet paper roll on the towel rack before a bath so that it doesn't get wet. If there's a room available at Butternut Tree Hotel on my next trip, I will consider.
