Fantastic hotel and restaurant ”
The hotel had large and clean rooms. My view from the balcony was particularly lovely. Plus, the food was good: we ate dinner here once and the breakfast buffet was one of the best we had. The owner was there at the time we were and paid particular good care of us, and was very attentive and considerate to our needs. The only downside is that it is a little walk to the main strip and the road is quite dangerous esp at night time.
Clean and a lot of things you can do, pool can be better cleaned”
+ clean room! + Nice breakfast - pool is not clean - the hotel need Some renovation
Great value ”
Well appointed accommodation near Turtle Bay , nice pool ,very good breakfast , nice rooms 2 minute walk to beach , would definately stay again.
Good hotel a bit away from the beach”
Really big rooms set up on the hill away from Morris’s beach. The pool was good but not much space around it and not much sun and breeze as blocked by the hotel and trees. The room was dark and the air con never switched off when it got down to temperature so was noisy all night. Really felt as though the hotel was on a tight cost control room cleaned once every 2 nights, credit card charges for paying for food and fruit at breakfast was sliced paper thin and only one teabag or coffee bag in the room. Someone had charged drinks to our room but the hotel sorted this out.
Great hotel, really clean with big rooms and balcony. The pool was excellent set off from the main road, quiet, surrounded by trees in which you could spot monkeys during the day. It is at one end of Mirissa beach but this was a plus as it meant it was quiet and chilled. Breakfast was also great. Just a great hotel! Would definitely recommend!
70 mettere form the sea, in a very panoramic point. Excellent value for money. Fabulous staff. Really friendly and helpful. I recommend it to everybody. Alessandro Cataldo
Good and different”
The owner put a lot of thought and effort into this place. It is felt. This place has soul and you feel very welcome. Top value for money. Pass the street and swim with turtles on the beach...
amazing service, great manager ”
the manager was very helpful, he spoke fluent french , he's so welcoming, the hotel was perfect ,the rooms are tidy, I came in late june ,despite it was off season ,the service was great
Great staff, very cool owners who give the best advice and know the good tour companies to use. Very close to the beach and a great pool to spend some time in with a beer in hand. I would go back for sure.
Not coming back”
Breakfast was bad, no fridge in the room , ants in the bed and in the room.
Terrible bad experience. I have not seen a smile from the boss. Only one kid as the porter to carry the luggages up to 2F, so we did by ourselves. Because we needed to go for whale seeing very early morning，we asked the boss to prepare take away breakfast for us，but we only got fruits，bananas…oranges, not even a bottle of water，we looked like monkeys！！ Very very bad water supply，the water flow from shower was the smallest I have ever seen in a hotel，my wife could only clean her face. At 10pm, ha ha water stopped, and it is resumed after I made the complaint，but the water is still not sufficient enough to take a shower. I strongly recommend not to stay at this hotel, they have made great improvement.
Lovely peaceful retreat from the business of Mirissa”
Loved this hotel - great rooms, good pool and delicious food with lovely staff especially Sarath - thank you for a really lovely stay.
Perfect location with superb amenities ”
Great staff, close to everything and quiet location! 5 stars
Not bad, not great either”
Pros - clean, spacious room, attentive staff, nice pool Cons - lots of mozzies, dogs barking on premises all night, local tax is payable in addition to advertised rate Overall ok, but would look elsewhere based on value for money
So good we returned”
Superb breakfast - best we've had in srilanka. Simple, family run hotel with wonderful staff, an excellent pool and a great range of books to read/swap. We have a top room with excellent AC and a ceiling fan and a balcony that looks over palm trees out to the ocean. Easy walk to the beach and we love that all the beach cafes have free loungers - great beach. The only downside is the water pressure and sometimes loss of hot water but it was such an easy, relaxed stay we returned for a further 3 days after visiting Galle. Mirissa ( and Esprit Dici) have been one of our fav places in Sri Lanka - relaxed easy beach vibe with a great spa (secret root) a short walk down the road
Room is huge, but facilities a poor. At least have air con. Mosquitoes , but have nets.
Small but amazingly cozy”
Value for money. Had everything we needed; great breakfast buffet spread, spacious room and very friendly staff! :D Great value for money!! :D
Clean, quiet hotel. No more, no less.”
I booked Esprit D'ici thinking it had already been paid for through Agodoa - which failed to tell me it was not. Not only that, but the hotel then expected to be paid in CASH! It was no small sum as we stayed for 3 nights. This was incredibly disappointing on the part of Agoda & the hotel. Agoda will say they booked through Booking.com (defeats the purpose, no?) which is a petty excuse. For this cash transaction piece, I cannot recommend the hotel. In terms of the basics, they had big, clean beds and rooms, clean bathrooms, clean lobby, a fair breakfast each morning, decent swimming pool, nice outside shower, and that's about it. Staff was friendly even if lacking in English. Management was friendly too though overly guarded with the wi-fi password which seemed to change each day. Even when connected, the wi-fi bandwidth was incredibly poor. It only worked sometimes. It's not a convenient location and will cost a Rs 400 round-trip rickshaw ride to Mirissa beach each. Easily walkable for adults but we had a 6-year-old who could make the walk once or twice, but not all the time. We received no helpful leads on who to use for diving, good restaurants, or other local must-see sights. It was a fend-for-yourself environment. In all, the hotel served it's purpose by providing us with a clean, comfortable, safe place to sleep. Until they take credit cards &/or make it clear up front that they are cash-only, I am hard-pressed to recommend it.
Nice Hotel, Plenty of self entertainment”
Stayed here for 2 nights. Room is basic without TV but clean. Dont worry though, there's a pool table, 2 ping ping tables, and countless board games to entertain yourself with. Location is near the end of mirissa, which makes walking out troublesome (but you can get a tuk tuk easily). We mainly went surfing in Weligama and went back to mirissa for the seafood dinner!
My room was absolutely spotless, which is always a good sign, the air con was v. efficient (I had to turn it off at times because it was so good at combatting the heat) and, my personal benchmark, the shower, was brilliant. The staff and owners were all very friendly and quickly made me feel comfortable. The food was simple - but I enjoyed it and ate there on each of my four nights stay. I thought that the Esprit was excellent value for money and would have no hesitation in recommending it if your budget is around £30/night. The main beach at Mirissa is only 1km away and I see that other reviewers mention having to walk along the road. I didn't find this a problem and anyway on the second day found a cut-through halfway along (just past the Glass House restaurant as you head towards the beach). This brings you out on a beautiful small crescent of sand which was virtually deserted when I visited - though if you want the main beach, just keep walking In the direction of Mirissa for another half kilometre. I travelled from Colombo on the train. Tip 1: try and get a seat on the right-hand side of the carridge (as you face the direction of travel) to get the best views of the sea. Tip 2: in Colombo I got on at Fort, however the train originates from Maradana, one stop away, and this would have given a better chance of finding a seat. The train was already crowded when it arrived at Fort so I, and the hundred(s) of other passengers waiting had to fight our way on. Tip 3: Weligama is the closest station to Esprit and that is where I got off. Returning to Colombo it is better to get on at Matara for the same reason as tip 2.
