Hotel pésimo, nunca vimos algo tan sucio ”
Al llegar ala hotel nos alojaron en una habitación en el fondo del edificio, una zona sucia que daba a un patio donde caía suciedad de todos lados, había gente en las habitaciones con las puertas abiertas, todo olía mal y habían trapos sucios, colillas de cigarrillos, cotonettes sucios, grasa, charcos de agua sucia, por todos lados. Suponemos que hay gente que vive allí por las características, no parecían turistas. Unos de ellos comenzaron a pelearse delante nuestro, algo muy incómodo y que nos generó inseguridad. Solicitamos que nos pasarán a otras habitaciones como las que aparecían en las fotos de nuestra reserva. Después de mucho protestar y esperar nos pidieron 90 dólares de diferencia para ser trasladados, finalmente después de muchas vueltas accedieron a pasarnos de habitación sin cobrar nos. La agitación era mucho mejor, pero la falta de higienes igual. Las alfombras sucias, los pasillos también con cotonettes sucios que no fueron retirados nunca en nuestras 3 noches de estadía, lo que deja claro que nunca se limpia. En el baño habían quedado toallas sucias de los huéspedes anteriores a nosotros. Nuestra habitación nunca se limpió. Realmente nunca vimos algo así. Por sí fuera necesario dispongo de fotos de la zona donde nos enviaron en un principio, las mismas superan en creces lo que podemos poner en palabras.

La verdad es que en el hotel hemos estado muy bien. Al entrar pense que habia escojido mal porque la recepcion esta muy vieja y necesita reformas ya mismo. Pero los de recepcion son todos muy amables y atentos. Las habitaciones countryard estan de conya aunque no tienen ventana, la puerta tiene una paertura que piedes abrir y ver el pasillo con las plantas etc, pero para lo que se necesita la habitacion cuando vas de turismo es perfecta. Tele de plasma grandecita, nevera con poca cosa, y todo limpio. El hotel esta realmente muy bien situado, frente a la estacion de tren mas importante y a 1 minuto del tranvia y del bus turisticos gratuitos que recorren todo Melbourne. (eso me dejo maravillado, un servicio para ver toda la ciudad gratis, con gente superamable y atenta), normalmente va muy lleno pero es gratis! En resumen el hotel por precio genial!

Everything you need in a well set out room”
I had a standard queen room. The reception staff are very clear with instructions and super efficient. The 24/7 reception is great and the location is just superb, only a block from Southern Cross Station (after the Skybus drops you off!). Surprising spacious due to the smart layout, I had a study table for my laptop, plenty of power points and the double door wardrobe is great, with a mini fridge and tea/coffee facilities on top. It is a shoebox style room and I had tg blinds down on both windows at all times as it looks out into the corridor, didn't bother me at all as it does everything I needed. The light in the bathroom is nice and bright and the mirror is close enough to do my makeup properly. The room downlights are warm white so not suited to doing makeup in! TV works well and it is very cosy to lay on the bed watching TV at night. There is a luggage rack beside the double wardrobe and bed, very handy abd out of the way. Sink is a bit small for washing your face but everything is modern and very clean. The shower leaks into the bathroom floor but could be a screen issue. Hot water comes on right away in the shower and is very consistent. Would definitely stay again and highly recommended. PS: breakfast/meal options are great and may seem steep but given it is a buffet, is actually great value! Many dishes to choose from and very convenient to buy the voucher from the counter.

The staff were polite and helpful - they gave me an adapter to use for the 2 nights I was there. My room was nice and clean and the bathroom is very modern. The only bad thing is that there are no windows in the room or the bathroom - there are light panels but you can't really open them or look outside, so after a few days you would get get a bit claustrophobic being in there. The location is great - it is very close to the Southern Cross station which connects you to the airport via the Airport Sky Bus and the free tram is a few minutes away too. I would definitely stay here again.

Room was great & staff were very helpful & respectful. Based across the road from southern cross station it was walking distance to crown casino, dfo and abundance of restaurants for all likes. Enjoyed our stay very much. Parking was so cheap & convenient. We parked and walked to every destination we chose. Room was excellent and clean with great shower. Tv in front of bed & relaxed nicely. Worth considering to stay there.

This was our second stay in this hotel. We were given early access to our room which was much appreciated. We had a standard queen room which was very adequate. The central location is excellent with public transport at the door. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was clean and all aspects of our time there were good. This hotel ticks all the right boxes and will always be our 'go to' hotel in Melbourne.

Checkin/out easy and quick, staff very friendly and welcoming. My room was very clean and comfortable, only thing missing was a micro wave but otherwise I survived 😁. I love how crisp the linen is. Straight across the road from sky bus and southern cross station, free tram route to everything and a pleasant stroll across the bridge to crown casino and This was my 3rd stay at great southern Melbourne and I will defiantly be back

Great central location close to Spencer Street Station. We were given a room upgrade and we were very happy with all aspects of the hotel. The hotel is great value for money. The staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was large, well appointed and very clean. Despite the location it was very quiet. We would definitely stay there again.

The Great Southern Hotel in Melbourne is my go-to whenever I'm in Melbourne. Whether I'm travelling solo, with my partner, or other family members, this hotel has rooms suited to all my needs. Rooms are relatively basic, but perfect for a budget stay. The location is great, it is very close to both Southern Cross and Flinders Street stations, Crown Casino, the Aquarium and many other attractions. There are tram stops within minutes, which will take you anywhere you need to go within the city (for free!) and beyond. Staff are friendly and food at the restaurant downstairs is great!

The accomodation has the perfect location where we can catch tram to city center easily. It is also close to the Skybus station that we can come and go to the airport easily. The room was clean and tidy. My boyfriend and I had a great time there and we both enjoy the time we spent in the hotel.

I have stayed many times and each time the hotel gets even better. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Staff helpful and friendly. And it’s diagonally across from Southern Cross Station and the Sky bus. I feel safe leaving the hotel at 4:00am to get to the airport. Good price as well if booked in advance.

Overnight stay”
To be fair, we only stayed overnight for about 7 hours for sleep so our stay was limited. That said, we were happy with the staff, the room and the location. The hotel looked spotless and clean, nice rooms and bathroom. Perfect location for our early morning train.

Great hotel, great location!”
Great place for us to stay while in Melbourne (this is our second time staying here). Location is great, just a few minutes walk to public transport tram stops and Southern Cross Station. Also within walking distance to some major attractions including DFO and Crown Casino - you can even walk to Flinders Street Station and CBD in about 20mins or so. The rooms we stayed in were very clean and had plenty of space for us to move around in comfortably. The rooms looked well maintained and kept neatly with basic facilities included. Great value for money with some friendly staff to assist you. It's good that they are also able to store luggage for you while you wait for check in or your flight. We will definitely stay here again when we go back to Melbourne.

I stayed in one of the cheaper rooms but still found the facilities, cleanliness and staff to be very good. Location is great as I traveled to Southern Cross station so is almost straight across the road. I’ll definitely stay there again.

Great location of the hotel. Near trains, shops and attractions. Stayed with my mom, son and grandma. I can say that both the kid and the elderly are comfortable with their stay here. We also like that the hotel room are so big too.

Location 4 minute walk from Southern Cross Station. Friendly efficient and helpful check in staff. In my room, everything very clean. Room was comfortable, linen spotless, air-conditioning great. TV in room, but no Foxtel, Netflix was a small disappointment. Definitely go back
