Falta de mantenimiento en general”
El mantenimiento y presentación.
I had recently visited this hotel. they don't have intercom facility cause of which u have to go down to the front desk. The hotel is quite old. Room was ok for the price paid. The staff was good, but the things were not done at one call, they had to be told again and again, and than give up since to tell them u had to go to the front desk down.
I've stayed at The Riviera before. Most of the experiences were not bad. This last one wasn't bad. I was even able to do a late checkout. The elevator was a little dirty. The room was fine. The sheets smelled clean. There was very little toilet paper in the room, but I found a housekeeper and she gave me a roll.
Best Price Around, A Bit Run Down”
The building it older, so the rooms are too. My room was clean and had a refrigerator, but there was also some peeling paint in places and the blankets were older. It was about what I expected for the low price in that area.
clean, but thats about it. rude staff. free wifi though. 7$ a day for parking though.
I've stayed at the Riviera several times. Most times the room was alright. This last stay was one of those times, except the hallway to my room was a little dirty, and the elevator didn't work. The only time I had a bad experience was when a mouse came into the room from underneath the door. It went to the garbage can where I had thrown away some leftover takeout food. From then on, I always put the leftovers in the refrigerator and throw them out when I leave.
Ok for a person on a low budget ”
Need to have a good place for good food in the morning and for dinner
nice place ”
I like the place
High possibility of seeing drug use in this property”
Avoid this place, especially if you are traveling with children, at all cost. The pictures posted here are mostly misleading; the really look of the hotel is more negative than what you see here. This "hotel" (someone told me that it is a homeless shelter on certain floors) is in an unsafe neighborhood. I heard police and emergency vehicle siren many times throughout the night. The lobby: dim and with stuffy air. In the morning when I checked out, I overheard someone at the counter saying to another person: "oh, [so and so] on the X floor overdosed on XYZ". They were being oblivious of the fact that there were children in the lobby. My room was old and there is a couple of stains on the bedsheet otherwise expected for the cost. But I have to emphasize the fact that if you stay here, be prepared of the fact that there is a big chance that you'd witness events you don't want to see.
Terrible neighborhood. Drug addicts and alcoholics all around outside. Wouldn't recommend for families. Hotel itself was good. No air conditioner, so if going on summer wouldn't recommend. Staff was wonderful. Thought it was weird that you had to put out a sign for your room to get cleaned, they don't clean them unless the sign is out. Had a great snack bar where you could get sandwiches made fresh when you ordered.
Only if you have to ”
Older place in bad area. Room was clean, but it had radiator heat with no thermostat. Had to turn valve to stop heating overheated room and open windows. 40 degrees out and I ended up putting a fan in the window to stop sweating. Only one small elevator working. Building is mostly occupied be section 8 and welfare folks. Noisy hallways and surrounding streets.
Stayed for 10 days. The room is obnoxious. There are mice running in the room and eating out of our food. We didn't dare to live or lie our thing in there. We asked the reception to change room, but it didn't help. The next room ran the mice also in and out of the room. Mirrors were everywhere. Not worth the money. I want my money back
Pictures were completely misleading and inaccurate. We felt conned by Agoda. This place is a hell hole. Worst “hotel” experience ever. And for your safety, do NOT stay here.
Not the worst ”
I was a little wary due to other reviews. However, the room was clean, it was easy to find, and there was a gated parking lot. The area is definitely not good for families/kids, and if you’re a light sleeper I would go somewhere else, as the walls are paper thin. Didn’t bother me because I sleep like a rock! There were no bed bugs which is what matters to me. Parking is a reasonable $7 a day.
Bathroom lock broken, tv remote not working, electric sockets very old and weary, water taps old and weary, lifts have problems, friend got eyes swollen due to allergy, all night you would hear all the sounds outside the door
is good not everything ok 1 of the cheapest in the area so 1 thing 4 another ”
is clean and nice but not everything works like it should be but the price fix it up
Terrible hotel..never stay there”
Terrible..we were locked inside our room for one hr and when we reached home in the night couldn't get inside for 3 hrs and they called 911 also to break the room as our stuff was inside..the door wouldn't open with any key..they refunded my money for one night..never ever think about this hotel
Do not stay here alone it is sketchy ”
The hotel looks rough enough to scare even the most seasoned travelers away, even the ones that say they’re tough and not scared of much. My cab driver didn’t want to take money from me in broad daylight in front of the hotel... there aren’t phones in the rooms, nevermind a blow dryer or breakfast, nowhere to eat nearby except for a sketchy McDonald’s and some very interesting folks staying at the hotel including babies wandering around in the elevators at three am. It’s a great “authentic” experience if you’re not scared of Newark... if you’re gonna stay here do it with someone else so you can at least feel somewhat safe.
They SHOULD do Better!”
No curtains to windows. No microwave! Fridge didn’t work. No Heat Luke warm water for bathing. For the $100 spent they should renovate and update the rooms in this hotel. There’s too many families that reside at the Rivera for it not to be better decorated and maintained. The store in the hotel OVER PRICED! Need more smoking rooms or dedicate a floor or two just for smokers. I’ve spent about a week in this hotel and each room has meeker accommodations. Once again for the amount of monies collected this hotel can do soooooo much better!
very disappointing ”
The pictures on the web site give a very different picture of the hotel. The hotel is in dire need of refurbishment. The air in the corridor smells stuffy and the bathroom fittings are old. When I booked in there were bags labelled hazard linen sitting in the corridor just outside my room door. There was also a mouse that ran accross the bed while my son was laying on it. The mouse bit thru one of my bags and ruined some food stuff. When I reported the incident to the attendant at the front desk and ask for her name, she flatly refused to give her name.
